Surprisingly, I'm less worried about the shooting and aiming mechanics, and I'm more worried about the button configuration altogether. For those that don't know, you aim with the IR sensor in the Wii Remote, shoot with the A button, jump with the B trigger, fire missiles with the d-pad (by pressing down), and change visors and such with the - button. Now, what worries me particularly, is the last two things I mentioned. Previous reviews from Gamespot regarding FPS controls on Wii have complained more about the button configuration than the new point and shoot controls. They've praised that aspect of the control schemes, saying that it is better than dual analog, but they have also complained about how having to reach further down the remote for a certain button can mess up your aim and is uncomfortable... and frankly, I have to agree. As smart of a design as the remote shape of the controller is, it is uncomfortable and horrible to have to reach down to the bottom of the remote just to hit a certain button. Luckily, using the d-pad to shoot missiles isn't that terribly bad, but using the other buttons may cause problems. Gamespot has whined about it before, and I'm sure they won't hesitate to do it again. However, given that the buttons at the bottom of the remote aren't used as frequently is a good thing.
What do you think? I'm a bit skeptical of that part of the controls, but otherwise the aiming looks fluid.
