A concession to Xbox from a Sony fan

If there is one thing I have to hand it to MS, the XSX and XSS are very nicely designed. I saw the display models for both and was just amazed by how compact and simple they were. I mean simple in a good way lol. While I love my PS5, I'm not sure what Sony was thinking with this one 😆 It really is an eye sore. Maybe if I stand it up it will look better? I'm sure the Sony team is going to make this better with the next revision... I hope lol.

Thoughts, SW? Have you had a chance to see each console in person? Which one do you like more?

Series X looks stupid on it's side thanks to the stand. Series S is great from every angle though.

Never seen a PS5 in the flesh though.

@SolidGame_basic: they are quite different design philosophies. I don't dislike the look of the PS5.

I liked the look of the PS4 over the XBOX One.

on it's side the stand does make the XSX look weird.. there was someone who was 3d printing a base that looked like the top which you could buy for $10. If I wanted mine its side, I would buy one of those.

I have seen the PS5 in the flesh it is a monstrosity no matter which way you put it. Yes you have the sleek looking curves but the size alone makes it just ugly.

Beauty is only skin deep but powah on the other hand goes deep to the hardcore. lol :P

Yeah I’ve come to appreciate a more simple design for my consoles. I’m not really into them having a bunch of weird curves and angles to them. I really like a simple and compact look to them. My favourite is probably the Xbox One X|S and the Xbox Series X|S look pretty good. The XSX looks awkward on its side but pretty good standing up.

I really want the PS5 in all black and the controller in all black.

I could wait for a slim model, but seeing as how the PS5 already has good cooling and good acoustics, I don't have much reason to wait for a new model.

Also the Xbox Series X is just two gamecubes stacked on top of eachother, so that is just an automatic win in my book.

XBX - Looks like a PC tower and a bit plain.

XBS - Okay, but it's basically a portable induction hob.

PS5 - Something you see in the year 3000. Modern, futuristic, future-proof design.

A lot of Microsoft Xbox consoles look like shit. The one that stands out is XBOX 360, which looks pretty cool.

I don't own an XSX (yet, but I will) and have a space set aside on my entertainment unit for it. PS5 doesn't fit anywhere and I have had to make space next to the tv. The look of it has never bothered me, but it's so large that it's impractical.

Honestly as long as they fixed the noise from the fans I don’t care to much about the design!

My PS4Pro sounds like a damn jet engine when I play on it..

Sony fat consoles are always hideous and their slim versions are always slick. PS3 slim is still the best PS design to date. They didn't made anything superior to it yet. I'm having high hopes for the inevitable slim PS5 and sure as hell am going to sell the OG for the slim when it releases.

The PS5 is the first console that I have had to stand up vertically, because of it's size.

I really like the look vertically, however I feel sorry for anyone that has to have it horizontal because it looks butt ugly laying down

That aside I absolutely love PS5 design vertically ( horizontal its ugly) but I do appreciates xbox simplicity and commitment to blend in with your entertainment setup unlike the PS5 that just demand attentions.

i think they can do better probably with the mid gen upgrade. but i dont mind the looks of it. but i still prefer the sleek design of the ps4.

The PS5 design is loud. It is also the loudest current gen system that I have have. Couple with it being so freaking large. It is amazing that they went from being smaller than the Xbox to being the biggest console. 😑

All trolling aside, the ps5 is unnecessarily big. The fins extend from the actual unit, making it bigger than it needs to be. No idea who was behind the design, but I hope they never design a console again.

Xsx is minimalistic. Over simplified design at worst, but it will never date. Designs like the 360 and original Xbox were of their time, but look so tacky now.

I agree. The fins are so extra. They could have maintain the front curve and make the sides flat. It would have looked great both standing and on the side. The slim will fix these design choices.

The PS5 is fine once you get the black shells to replace the white, at least now it's not this giant white beast in the entertainment center

I've yet to see a display unit of either Xbox series consoles, but they look nice in images/video. I'm assuming the lack of displays is tied in to the lack of supply from Xbox.

The PS5 is a big boy, for sure. I like it, though.

I hate the look of my PS5, but I placed it behind my 72” TV so I don’t have to think about it much.

I don't like the design of the PS5 at all, but it sits in my media room rack closet, so who cares.

Hmm.. I could try it vertically but then I'd have to keep it up top and I'm afraid of that monster falling off.

I heard the XSX is very quiet. Pretty cool.

Honestly, I like both PS5 & Xbox Series X designs and the Xbox Series S looks like a classic speaker box I grew up which makes it look cool.

In terms of looks i prefer the PS5 (Well between the XSX and PS5. in terms of looks the XSS is my fav.). i would have liked it smaller and maybe a very very dark blue shell. but overall i prefer the PS5 in looks. it stands out. it has character. consoles are toys. there should be a bit of theatre about them.

i love the XSX in terms of the functionality though. it's very clever and efficient. they manage to pack a lot into a small space and, as i understand it, it still doesnt get loud when under stress. in that sense it could very well be the best built console since the gamecube (and its not far off 2 gamcubes stacked on top of each other :P). Just in terms of looks....it's REALLY boring imho.

the XSS is both sleek and still has a bit of fun about it though. it looks like a large domino but its small for a modern console which is cool.

Obviously aesthetics aren't that big a deal, but you're right. XSX/S look like actual hardware and not a miniature model of a building in Dubai like the PS5, but the PS5 doesn't actually annoy me, unlike RGB.

Lol. I did some testing with my boy @R4gn4r0k and my PC can run Forza Horizon 4 at 1440p 60fps on Ultra. So unless Forza Horizon 5 has some crazy specs, I'll probably stick with that for now. But I know Flight Simulator is tempting you! get it!!

If I one day catch some kind of disease that rots the inside of my brain to the point I decide I want a PS5, I'd get the digital only version, 3D print a new shell, and swap the motherboard into something a bit more functional and less gaudy.

when my ps5 turned up i couldn't believe how big and ugly it was. didn't look like that from the pics advertised on the website, but what can you do, you've paid for it, you're stuck with it, got to make your peace with that and keep it. reminds me of the time i used russianbrides.com

The XSX is designed with temps in mind. Not only does the PS5 look ugly, its airflow and temps are bad in terms of console effeciency.

Hopefully Sony does away with the popped collar for the mid-gen upgraded console. Snd I'm sure both Xbox and PS5 upgrades will be as small and compact as the Xbox One X was. Id just wait to buy either honestly.

PS5 is probably the ugliest console I've ever seen. I'm not even exaggerating.

I love Series' design even if I'm not remotely interested in purchasing the consoles, however the PS5 design is absolute garbage. here's hoping for a mid-gen redesign that isn't an eye-sore.
