Do you like the idea of it? It wouldn't be an RPG, but more like AC or something.

The only one I really know of is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles the Crystal Bearers. That was not an RPG.

So, what do you think of the idea?

Sorry, I haven't read much about it, and I thought it was an RPG. Never played the first.

It is a rpg and the first sucks. Peoples keep saying that the second is actually good though.

Two Worlds 2 is a bad game. Don't touch it.

Pretty sure it's an RPG, but isn't Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning supposed to be open-world? It's coming out later this year I believe.

It's very good, actually. I am about four hours into it and it is leaps and bounds better than the first one. It is not perfect, but it is excellent if you are fond of open world European role playing games. Gorgeous at times, fantastic soundtrack, huge world with varied environments, great atmosphere, loads to discover and do, fun combat, deep crafting and magic systems, etc. It is just a solid game that may have some flaws, but is loaded with character and content. Reality Pump deserve a lot of credit for the improvements they made. You can actually tell that they cared when they made this game.

The combat was excellent. However, there was no story, the quests were lame and the game became extremely repetitive and boring after a few hours.

A single playthrough of Oblivion can entertain you for hundreds of hours. I've played off and on for a few years and never finished the main quest. If you are playing on PC, there are tens of thousands of mods available, some of them really improve the graphics and add tons of new content. - On the other hand, Mount & Blade, I enjoyed the combat, but the rest of it was boring.
