A good week for PS5 Pro

Some good news for PS5 Pro players this week! The PS5 Pro version of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 was praised on Digital Foundry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1LxjsmjJCw And now we are seeing the PS5 Pro enhanced features for the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds game! Seems like the PS5 Pro is turning out to be a good investment for those who wanted the better performance for the current gen consoles. Thoughts, SW? Do you have a PS5 Pro? Interested in one?

Don’t have a PS5 Pro myself and don’t plan on getting one. My regular PS5 will have to be good enough until the PS6 comes. I don’t think it’ll all that far away really.

They had a video on NG2B that seemed to have a good PS5 Pro version...

Apart from that, in the video showed the 120 fps mode on the other consoles is useless and the Series S version looks weird. The PC version can't seem to get unlocked frame rates or go above 120. Apparently even going to 120fps at all changes the timing in the game's physics and combat is affected.

I'm surprised they didn't comment on the PC Game Pass version being busted.

Don't have one.... Not interested. Afraid it's the harbinger of death for consoles. Can't believe people bought one!

That said, at least this week the news was good.

What scares me is if people were willing to go this expensive for such tiny improvements the big companies must be licking their chops at how much they charge for the next gen.

My hope is base PS5 remains relevant throughout ps6 generetion and people are FAR more critical of value before jumping in.

Pretty much this. My regular PS5 is fine where it is and I didn't buy PS4 Pro, so there is no reason to do that for PS5 Pro. Not sure if I'll get a PS6 but we'll see on what game it provides.

But you're asking me to build something I don't need... Game design hasn't improved to a point where I would need to spend that kind of money. One could play the entire generetion on an Xbox series s or even an Xbox one/ps4 and not skip a beat.

And what you said implies that the price is some arbitrary thing, which its not. It's based on the value of the hardware and features. Whether or not developers make use of that hardware also applies to PC gaming as well. You can release a $2K GPU and have a heck of a time trying to find a game that actually makes full use of the hardware.

In the end, Sony stated the Pro was designed for people who wanted 60FPs on quality settings (for most games) For people who want that, then there is an option for them.

The Beta Stress-Test framerate wasn't 60 for Wilds on console but when set to Performance and remove Motion Blur it was exceedingly stable and roughly 45FPS across the board. Which is acceptable, not prefered but acceptable. I've even tested crossplay and done many hunts without any performance issues, it was stable and was for them as well.

Considering that's from a very early build I don't think anyone who's actually interested in playing MH Wilds on a console is going to run into any problems. The only ones complaining have never touched a Monster Hunter game or baiting dweebs 'playing' on P.C. with custom setting way below system requirements. If you're potato has a seven year old CPU that's your first problem. No one needs a PlayStation 5 Pro, and only an idiot is going out to buy one for this game.

You are correct... In order to determine value I have to look at what's available compared to what's being made.... A Ferrari can drive faster than prius, but both get you from point a to point B and thus the prius has better value. Certainly there are people who know this and still buy a ferarri for reasons of their own... But I can't objectively look at a 2k component or an 800 dollar console and say the value is high. I have never praised a PC component in any of my 25k posts. I don't own a desktop rig and I probably never will.

If developers ever evolve gaming to a point where these expensive components and consoles actually gain value I'll say it. Until then, enjoy driving 55mph with your Ferrari.

The PS5 Pro looks cleaner on a 4K screen than the base PS5 does. That's all I really wanted from it. What's the point of these 65"-85" 4K TVs with high refresh-rates, crazy contrast ratios etc, when you gotta look at all that muddy 30fps image quality. It offers $700 worth of console performance. Nothing more. Is it $200 better than the Xbox Series X? Probably not, but there is a difference.

I can't tell if this thread is more of a coping mechanism for folks that may have "wasted" their money, or folks trying to feel better about not experiencing the best console fidelity and performance available. "The harbinger of death for consoles"?!?! Some people might not have a problem spending extra for nicer things. Do you all drive a Honda Civic and live in a tiny house? Do any of you every go out to eat? Have jewelry? Come on now... Spending some money every now and then is a good thing!

What's funny is that for years PC gamers have been spending a premium for that extra fidelity and performance, but are now being critical of PS5 Pro gamers who want the same thing 🤣
