I actually like what Sony is doing with "home". Regardless of what people say, "home" is similar to PSU, The Sims, and what's the other one Second Life. It does sound interesting though. But there are questions that need to be answered.  Like how smooth is the actual functionality going to be. Also is this going to be something that people will regularly use? Another realization to be made is that "home" is being funded by advertisers. I got the sense that "home" will be more about advertisment than functionality or creating social situations. If the advertisment is done right, then I will not have a problem with it. I think it creates a huge load of ways for Sony to make money off gamers. I must admit though that Sony got my attention, but Sony is legendary for blatantly lying. I will have to wait and see on this one though,, you never can tell it could end up sucking.

[QUOTE="bluebrad1974"]It's one of those things that sounds good on paper, but when it's here it will be just an unused gimmick. Not supporting voice chat and not having a single identity ruins the chances of "Home" being what Sony hopes it could be. Most people will play around with it at first, then it will be forgotten, because the social interaction is so limited.

I agree. With both posts.

Same here, I hope they make this work and get some quality games out, than it would justify paying $600 for a PS3.

I would like to know if the theatre is actually going to play real movies that people pay admission to watch? Because that would be a great online social feature.

If they can filter questionable content. And well, looks like the 60GB is needed here. Memory card slots for uploading stuff.

Surely it is just the same as 360's movie download serive but with a graphical representation?

I mean they couldn't streem the things could they? People just don't have those kinds of connection.

I just want to know if they plan on integrating futures titles into this service. Tournaments, special events at certain times within PSHome. Maybe easter egg type hunts where winners get free downloads and such..

But I could imagine a huge Second Life type conference or something where people like Hideo, Kaz, Ken, or for me, the god himself Katsuhiro Harada show up and interact with the gamers...

my thoughts on pshome is. it reminds me of most MMO's just without the weapons and armor and monsters which makes MMO's fun. my question is if it free. how will sony maintain a server to hold alot of people and will they have a dedicated server and who will be paying for it. or will that be included with the many microtransactions that the service will provide. if that the case then if you really look at it you are paying for it though payments on cloth or stupid items.

I think the point of Home is the social aspect, hence the lack of weapons.

They said it will be free to download and use, but you'll probably be able to buy new stuff for it you want.
I don't know if that's enough to pay for it, but I guess that's what the advertisements are for.

i know it a social thing were people and friends meet up but so is most MMO's were players meet up with friend and talk while they fight thing or do missions. the concept is the same imo. although i think it good for sony to try it. i just see it getting boring real fast. and intil i here more about it especially about how they are going to maintain a dedicate server and how they will maintain it and still keep it free is my question

PS3 detractors must have this stored away somewhere so that they can just cut and paste it every time Sony makes an announcement.

I'm stumped on that one. In the keynote, he says that the video advertisements are being run "in the world". So, I assume that they aren't downloaded to the HDD. But I'm like you, I don't think that they would be able to produce the bandwidth to stream a movie.

:D I was thinking the same thing. The has to be a point where all the things that "still don't make it worth the $600" add up.

unlike some people i have no problem saying i like something or not. but i can do the same thing in WOW, guildwars, FFXI online, those three games has socal events and you can meet people to. and if you want really want to meet real people to be social then go to a bar.

Envision. Gamers coming together through Home, to meet up, interact and play some fine gaming of Tekken 6 ;) It'll be kinda like the arcade all over again!

If you watched the GDC presentation, which I doubt you have, there will be plenty of basics to use and achievement type of unlocks that you may use for your Hall of Fame room and your own apartment. It's the fancy or as Phil calls them, premium items that will cost a little extra cash.

I also have an issue with the framerate. It was horrible in the keynote. They still have quiet awhile before it's launched, but that would have to be fixed for it to have any legs.

How can you agree with something that exists? Go watch the full GDC presentation. Home has all of the features of a full interaction within Home. Text, video, voice, etc. And to not have a single identity? You're custom making your avatar to your preference. It's your unique character, and thus shows a pure identity to show others of who you are. Don't forget your own apartment and Hall of Fame room. Again, your customizations.

I think it's a bloody awesome idea. I think it will be used often and it won't be gimmicky. But my only problem will be the voice chat area. It's suppose to be a way of interacting with other people like an MMO, but I believe typing will be the only way to do that. But they do indeed need a voice chat type thing and if they do add one hopefully you can voice chat with more then ONE person at a time. My biggest pet peeve of all on the 360. I would rather not even have voice chat. I hate going back and forth, exiting and re-entering voice chats with several people. But hopefully 360 will fix that with the spring update and hopefully PS3 will add that.

It was mentioned in the demo that there would be voice proximities. Just like in Halo 2. So if you want to talk as a group, you have to stand together as a group as if you are talking.

I think it could be really cool... the PS3 needs something community oriented, and this seems like a fun way of doing that. But to me, the most important thing is the interface. If it's Final Fantasy XI style menu-hunting, then it will blow, no matter how great it looks. I hope it's intuitive... if so, I'm sold. I still have my doubts if it's going to rival Live in terms of it's matchmaking though. We'll see.

Why so skeptical? Why is it so hard to believe it will be a great feature? Seriously, have any PS brand disappoint you? Why are you not skeptical of MS? After all they pulled the plug on a system that cost the same as the PS2, but didn't last long. Take this information with a grain of salt. Stop implying that it might not be good because it whon't have this and that. The big picture is more important than the little one.
