Okay. So I was there when the second wave of 360's came out. It was amazing.. first game was NFS:MW. Had a hell of a time.
First 360 fries about 9 months after I bought it on multiplayer GRAW.
I had purchased an extended warranty from Microsoft when I had first bought it. Now they were saying I never had one. Funny.
So feeling screwed and dehydrating from the want of Saints Row.. I had to get a new one. So yes, to my ignorance, I went out and got another.
Shortly after, about three or so months, a letter from Microsoft comes in the mail. I open it and can you imagine what it says? "Your extended warranty is coming to an end. Update your existing warranty to prevent damage to your investment!" Blah blah blah. Confused for a moment I read the serial.. which matched exactly to the first 360 that had fried. Wow, oh #%@#^#@, wow. So I call in and complain.. and they said all they can do is just replace it. Too pissed off to do anything serious about it I just send it in and sell it to a friend. Shortly after that.. my second one fries. This time it was really, really early for it to happen.. and I had bought a Gamestop warranty just in case MS tried to screw me a second time.
I bring the RROD 360 to Gamestop.. return it.. and go home.
Out of the box RROD. Hard Drive failure.
I go back and return it. Of course, the employees look at me weird as if I had violated the system or something. (Because you know.. Gamestop isn't exactly a great place.) I get my new 360 and rush home.. tired and wanting to play some Rainbow Six.
Bingo. Once again.. RROD right out of the box.. this time a general hardware failure.
I once again bring the system back to Gamestop.. where I get hassled and joked about. (The manager was making really strange sexual comments about me having relations with the 360 too hard. By the way, she must have been at least 55 or so. Eugh.)
I bring it home and finally one that works. Thank god.
Months later again.. it eventually happened. Another fried 360. However, this time my Gamestop warranty was over but this is when all 360s became extended warranty regardless of buying the warranty or not.
I call up MS and they say that I don't have a warranty.. again. Except this time.. I have no back up and I don't have the money to do this crap all over again. About six months before this I had bought a PS3.. then ended up selling it because I never played it RIGHT before my 360 went RROD. I was truly.. screwed.
I sold the dead 360 for 100$ to my friend who was going to sell it on Ebay.
A couple days later he called MS and they replaced it. WTF?
Never again.. will I trust a single cent to Microsoft. I don't have near the amount of patience to mess around like this again.
And yes, I know this all sounds really rediculous. Most of my friends still have their first and we treated them just alike. Oh well though.. I'll just end up getting a PS3 pretty soon when I come across the money.
