Mine is Rocket League.

The cinematic epic action adventure games by Sony.
My fav games this gen are God Of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Uncharted 4.
These games are so freaking awesome. High quality. I feel like I am getting my money’s worth playing these epic blockbusters with great stories and characters I actually care about.
The gameplay in these games are super fun too.
TLOU2 is going to blow my mind. I can’t even imagine something being better than God Of War right now, but I know deep down Naughty Dogg will Top it somehow.
I love that retro gaming has skyrocketed in popularity over the past few years and now we are seeing many revivals of retro games and many companies releasing retro gaming related products to appeal to that growing market.
I also love that the Battle Royale mode has become very popular. It's a great mode that I had been wanting to see in games for long before PUBG was ever released, so I'm glad that many companies are now adding it to their games.
Those are about the only two current gaming trends that I like. Every other current gaming trend is bad especially the movie-game trend that I hate.
I really love the trend of gamers totally falling for every crap marketing spiel under the sun and pre-ordering literally everything to get a free little weapon that turns out to be shit then the game sells for half the price a week after release.
That shit makes me LOL bigtime!
My favorite trend: Competitve games that are easily accessible to all (Rocket League, PUBG,Arms, Trackmania, Disc Jam, Overwatch, Splatoon 2)
Least favorite trend: Movie games (Naughty Dog, David Cage, Telltale, QTE’s don’t make movies into video games)
Most popular gaming trends are pretty terrible. The trend among indie developers to make retro-esque games that nearly as good as the games they're emulated, and even better from time to time is good.
I love open world games like Zelda BoTW and Assassin's Creed Origins! (Open world seems to be a big trend)
I also love games with building elements like Terraria/Starbound/Trove/Portal Knights/Pixark (Building elements seem to be a bit up and comer and i'm ALL IN cause I'm the creative type I like to make my own fun)
I love jumping puzzles. Especially in games that shouldnt have them whatsoever and have entirely terrible controls for them. Despite people absolutely hating them, i love game developers keep putting them in every type of game.
After getting the handsome jack collection and playing Borderlands 2, I could get used to this current gen teamster trend.
So, I really like free to play. You can play these games as long as you want. You shouldn't spend your money. You can take fun and be enjoy, or change the game.
And I like that the Battle Royale become very popular and a lot of games add this mode. You can try to play and choose the best Battle Royale in different games. There are buy to play games (PUBG, ARK: Survival of the Fittest, Arma 3, The culling etc) or free to play games (Fortnite, Darwin Project, Warface, H1Z1 etc).
well, I was into the Battle Royale idea before it was a trend. I even played the Arma 3 BR mod made by PlayerUnknown years before PUBG was a thing.
The difficult games trend.
I think the SoulsBorne games sorta brought back the trend of games being hard again. I'm sure there were always hard games every year but so much of last gen and this gen have games that crowd your HUD with so many different elements to help the player and it just gets tiring. Nice to see the SoulsBorne games bring the popularity of difficulty back. Just finished Nioh as well and that one is very nice. Personally thought The Surge didn't really do it for me though.
It's honestly hard to look at it positively. Most of the AAA games coming out this gen are turds. All the console platforms are charging for online. DLC (some are ok, most are crap), microtransactions, and lootboxes are all considered fine by the mainstream.

the entire so called AAA industry is wankerville
I like that more games are doing online multiplayer PvE modes instead of just PvP. Though, I wish EA would add it to their games like Battlefield and Battlefront.
Uh... I played a lot of Halo CE and 2 multiplayer when they were new.
Yeah, I don't really pay attention to trends; I just play whatever catches my interest.

This is mine as well, but for me it's more about not catering to the weak. The games can be obtuse, as far as explaining some mechanics, but figuring stuff out is half the fun. I love seeing someone in this "everybody wins" world go F%$K THAT!!!
If I had to pick one I'd say Open Worlds which is an absolute favorite to me. But only when done right like in Breath of The Wild or GTA5.
Action RPGs: Turned based sucks, and I only like it for Pokemon.
Mobile gaming: Some mobile games are solid; though it has to be games designed with mobile in mind.
Open World gaming: I like to be able to BS around in a world as a break from the story.
Indies: Like mobile gaming, there are some indie gems.
Remakes of old games. A lot of them are cash grabs but when they're done right, they can be a good way of experiencing some of the classics on newer consoles. I had never played Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask before, so the 3DS remakes were perfect for me.
And to be fair, those two remakes are really, really good remakes.
