A System Wars view of the Orange Box

So how do you think GS is going to review the Orange Box? Packaged as one game, one score? Since Half-Life 2 is already a AAA game, will the Orange Box be automatically AAA? Are they going to review TF2 and Portal as separate games since PC users can buy them separate from the Orange Box?

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

There certainly is a staggeringly large amount of gaming goodness packed into that box. Portal looks pretty damn cool too.

Not to mention one of those games is Half-Life 2 itself, one of the greatest ever. PC gamers have had HL2 and Episodes 1 and 2 for a while now. And I've played the two episodes, and they're great. Since I've played HL2 + expansions, I'm mostly looking forward to TF2 and Portal. But any console gamer or anyone who hasn't played HL2 absolutely needs to have Orange Box on their must-buy list.

By the way, for anyone who's played it or even knows of it, pretend the Xbox 1 version of Half-Life 2 was never conceived. It seriously did not do the game justice at all.

thats what I thought.... unless you hacked Valve and got Episode 2(at which point I would ask you to pass me a copy of the game... The PC version IS complete... PC Gamer already reviewed the Orange Box and all the PC versions of the games are ready to ship and have been for almost a month now but they held it back to release simultaneously with the 360.)

No doubt about it. Hell, Portal is actually what I am looking forward to the most, as it just looks like it will be one of those kick back and relax, highly addictive sort of deals that you can just play over and over for hours on a lazy, rainy day without it really ever getting old.

It could handle Source games since they run fine on integrated GPUs.

Well, actually, even if you went into the outer orbit of earth there is still gravity. It's just that whatever platform you're on in space isn't generating the gravity, earth is. And if you're spacewalking, earth's gravity is still pulling on you, it's just weakened.

8.5 for the Orange Box - I loved HL2, but it looks a touch dated, unless they've seriously improved the graphics, and the depth is nothing we haven't seen this year in BioShock.lowe0

might only get 8.5 if gamespot takes a lot off for being a remake (other than the Episode Two content) but otherwise it should be a 9.0darkodonnie

Being a remake and being a partial re-release are very different.

Whats with the super-value crap? Your basically getting 1 fully featured FPS, and a tech demo.

Half Life 2 plus both expantions wiil run you a good 20 hours, that pretty good for a fps these days, but its still just one game really, TF2 is multi-player only, just as HL is the single player campain, so add them together and you get something equal to a fully featured FPS.

Throw in a little tech demo puzzler for the hell of it, and claim ownage.

BTW, Half Life >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Half Life 2.

Hell, just gimme TF2 and I'd be happy. :D I'm probably going to get the PC version for the superior controls.

I think GS can save everyone a lot of time by not reviewing the game. Instead they can just post a link to where the game is being sold in our respective areas.myke2010

I think they'll just review the "Black Box" portion, e. g., HL2:Ep. 2, TF2, and Portal.

Even then, the value is insane. I think it'll get a 9.5.
