either that or they think that gamers are truly so dumb to believe about this mystical power that surround the mystery of teh cell architecture.

on a more serious note,

whatever happened to the importance of gameplay? why do they ALWAYS have to make gaming appear as something hardware-related only?

don't you guys find it sad?

Except with each release that Naughty Dog or Guerrila Games release they manage to squeeze even more out of it and make a better looking game than their previous one.

one day they will tap the infinite hidden powa of teh cell and multiplats will come out the same as the 360 versions. just you wait... it's totally gonna happen... i swear... no really... expect it any time now. cross my heart....

KZ3 and UC3 aren't that advanced compared to their predecessor. And mostly it was because of terrific art direction.

The second games in the Uncharted and Killzone series were the ones to really push the technology in their respective series. While the first Uncharted is my favorite of the series, the second one blows it away in terms expanded technical prowess and I would say UC3 is pretty much built of that feature set, and because of that already established set of features and skills, UC3 could be an even better looking and more impressive title than UC2. The plane scene and the ship scenes (especially the ballroom when the ship had capsized) were insanely impressive, and I must say I was also blown away at how good the canyon (or should I say Wadi?) scene looked. They definitely did a good job capturing the feel of Lawrence of Arabia, which is such a beautifully shot movie, and not exceeding in the desert or wadi scenes would've been a disservice to the movie that had influenced such a major part of the game.

Graphics do matter. It's just stupid though when arguements happen when people say how one game is vastly superior to the other due to better AA and stupid crap like that.

KZ3 actually even has less filters and effects going on than 2. Possibly because some of the levels are quite big

I do recall when the PS3 first came out and everyone was going insane about 'the cell'. People would list it as a feature of the PS3 as though that in itself was a feature. I remember so many threads comparing the pros and cons of the three consoles, and 'cell' would always be a 'pro' of the PS3. Having a CPU with a catchy name!

It's not "hidden power" it's called "developmental resources: do we have the money and time or need to invest them in this particular area to meet what we want for our game?" While not enough devs used the second Vector Unit on the PS2, I don't think it would've changed things much. It's amazing how little capability is needed to achieve the basic tenants of proper gameplay design. Graphics are nice, don't get me wrong, but something like Final Fantasy X or Metal Gear Solid 2 really didn't need both Vector Units to either look decent or be fun to play. Something like Battlefield 3 needs a ****load of CPU and GPU horsepower, because semi-procedural destruction is pretty heavy on CPU calculations, and you need to graphics to render all that debris happening in real time. The destruction is a major feature of that game and the way it plays, so the amount of time needed to make it happen on silicon is more than justified. Granted, BF3 looks alot better than it has to in order to be a fun game, but it sure does look pretty, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Heh. I do like the Godfather reference. But I think when you're developing exclusively for one set of hardware, there's ample opportunity to really tap into what that hardware can pump out. Examples would be God of War 3, UC 2-3, Heavy Rain. Not saying that other platforms don't have amazing looking titles, but just sticking with the thread topic.
