I think Resistance 2 is great, but it took a while to grow on me. Past the first level it feels a bit slow at first, but when I came to replay the game I didn't understand why I thought this. Boss battles and set pieces are excellent, and the build up to them is great. In between set pieces the game is a little bit boring, usually because you will be fighting the same enemies in very dull locations, thanks to some underwhelming graphics (Though this does not apply to the Chicago level, that level is by far the best I have played in a long time.), but the smart weapons make up for it a bit, by letting you approach a situation in unique ways, and the enviroments are quite varied (Though you will get sick of Chimera architecture.). Atmosphere is pretty much what you would expect, but to be honest I don't really know what was wrong with RFOM's atmosphere. It is quite diffrent though, it's not as bleak and the improved sound track helps alot. It no longer feels like im playing a Ratchet and Clank FPS. My main complaint is the insistance on spamming Titans, espically annoying because they removed alot of the really cool enemies from the first like angels. Also it's quite short, not CoD short, but say about as long as the original GeoW. So about 8 hours.
But even if you count the flaws of the single player, if you're a multiplayer gamer then the online will more than make up for any short comings. You have 2 modes, Co-op and Competetive. Co-op is unique in that it allows up to 8 players to form a team to tackle a (fairly) random set of objectives on large maps, using class based gameplay. It's alot of fun, and there isn't much like it out right now. You will also be able to upgrade various classes through the use of a leveling system, and through the collection of gray tech used for buying upgrades, and for each mission you complete, you will unlock a mission report detailing current events for that area, so it dosn't feel like you're doing it for nothing either.
Competitive is alot of fun aswell, though there arn't that many suprises to be honest, unless you count the 60 player limit and some seriously big maps. You can access most weapons from the start, and you no longer have to locate them on the map. Competitive uses a leveling system that rewards you with perks, which are special powers that can be activated by earning a certain amount of XP, and some visual upgrades aswell. It's pretty fun, espically the new mode Skirmish, which is like a dynamic version of the traditional Zones and VIP game types seen in many online games.
