Yes, it's true. I still think the Wii is a fantastic product, but for myself I simply do not play it. Aside from Super Mario Galaxy and Twilight Princess... I can't say there is anything on it that interests me any further. The only thing I regret is potentially missing a new Zelda game, which may come out this year. In that case... maybe I'll borrow a Wii to play it, I don't know.

What I do know is, I want to upgrade my PC, and give my old parts to my brother (2gigs ram, evga 680i, evga 8800gts and e6600). Why? Well... my PC is able to handle anything I throw at it today, but hey... I'm a full time professional and feel I deserve an upgrade every ~1.5-2 years. I won't lie... I love seeing cutting egde graphics. Plus in all reality, this upgrade would likely have cost me $300 if I sold my parts instead of giving them to my bro, but instead it's under $600.

Now before the same backwards rhetoric shows up... this isn't a needed upgrade. This is a luxary upgrade.

My question to SW... have you ever sold one platform or another? How tough was the decision, and what ultimately made you do it?

For those interested, this is what I'm getting.... potentially getting a 9550 instead.

Well it's your choice but, IMO why just have one system when you can have two?

The same reason you would trade in a car instead of leaving it to go to dust in the garage.

I have sold platforms before, and every time I did, I regretted it down the road later, which is why I don't sell systems anymore.

Understandable. The thing is, the Wii has retained it's price very well over the years. As such, I would only be losing a little bit of money.

Can't argue with that, PC gaming is the best. But if your going to shell out that kind of dough, why not keep the Wii, I find it good for a break from the intense PC gaming, when I just want to relax. And I can't wait for punch-out.

If I was going to upgrade my PC, I wouldn't go with Core 2 Duo, and nVidia card.

What other reason would there be. If it has nothing to do with money, then logically you shouldn't have a problem rebuying it after getting all sad about it.

Uhh... that would more then double (maybe triple) the price I'm spending... if I wanted to spend more, I would much rather get the 9550 anyways, as they o/c much better. Smae with the 55nm gtx260... the thing is an overclocking beast.

Losing the ability to play the games that come out on that platform. And me not regretting it because of money is not the same as me saying money does not matter. Its very illogical to buy and sell systems on a whim when a game comes out that you want to play, and every platform has had games that I wanted to play at various times.

Then WTH is the point of upgrading to the point of playing PS3/Xbox 360 looking games, if you say you can run most games on your current setup? Unless you got a 1900x1200 monitor, and want to crank up Crysis to the max, then why get some upper-mid-grade PC? I mean nVidia's new card supports 3D glasses, which btw, is awesome. Why not wait until it gets even cheaper and the next gen of cards and processors start becoming mianstream affordable. By then you'll be able to get a $250 48070X2 card and such.

.... are you saying a gtx260 and e8400 are on par with the 360 and PS3? Let alone after they are overclocked? You're kidding me right? No offense, but it doesn't sound like you know much about PC hardware when you don't realize the difference between my old system and the one I am upgrading to. Let alone the fact you are telling me to get cutting edge hardware that is super inflated due to just being released. I'm not spending $2k on hardware, that is only --marginally-- better for the extra price I would be paying.

No, I am being realistic. Don't go preaching around here who knows what. Do tell me, what games do you plan on running on that setup? You sure as hell are not going be able to run Crysis to the max over 29fp/s, overclocked or not. And that's the only game right now that I see a need to upgrade one's PC. You're old card 8800GT can run pretty much all the games on PC right now. Not on max, but pretty high tho. Not sure how your processor can handle it though.

I have two PC's right now. And the one that I am typing from right now, I can play almost any new PC games around 30fp/s either high or max, on a old AMD Athlon 4400 X2, and ATi1950XT, which is 3 generations behind. With a resolution of 1280x1024. My other PC is a complete high end PC, and you know what, not that much difference when you take COST into consideration (sure higher resolution helps), but I got it for free so I can't really say anything.

I'm just saying. You're buying parts that are about to become mid-grade setups.

What are you going on about? I'm buying this PC to play games on, not to run benchmarks for Crysis... a game I finished over a year ago. While YOU don't see a need to upgrade your PC, maybe I do?

As for preaching. You tell me. When someone is telling you to go spend an extra $1500+ on hardware which has the worst price/performance ratio out there, what would you say? Do you realize how expensive i7 mobos are? How expensive the i7s are? How you don't just use the regular DDR2 memory with those setups? That said. I already stated that my setup can run everything out there. However, it does not play many games on High at really good frame rates. The bottom line is simple... this setup will vastly improve the performance of all the games that came out this year, and games to come out in the next two years... MUCH MORE, then my current setup. As such, this is a luxary upgrade which I have already CLEARLY stated above.

The smartest approach to PC upgrades is never to buy the best, of the best. Because usually for 10% extra performance you end up paying 100%+ amount of the price. In this example, it's even more of a jump. Instead, it a lot smart to upgrade every 2 years, for $500. Instead of once every 4 years for $2000. Aside from saving a ton of money, your setup will be better over time.

Haha nice! Speaking of SNES, I setup my home gym this weekend (power rack, bench, olympic bar, weights, etc)... and noticed Robotech hidden away in the corner. Now I'm dying to pop that baby in and give it a go. I loved that game!

It sells on ebay for $50 less then retail. Plus the WiiFit is selling nearly for the identical price.

I think the i7s won't be worth it for another year... unless you want to pay an arm and a leg. The unfortunate thing about this new technology is the very expensive mobos, their inability to overclock very well, and plus the RAM you require is also very expensive.

Aljosa23
The q6600 is nice, but it's got the older architecture. With the 9550 or the 8400 you can get much higher performance. The 4870 is also a good card, but the gtx 260... specifically the 55nm is a beast at overclocking -- pretty much you can get to GTX285 speeds if you have decent cooling in your case.

The same reason you would trade in a car instead of leaving it to go to dust in the garage.

The only reasons you wouldn't use a car is if you were collecting because you were rich or keeping it as your "baby" ( in which case, why sell it?).

Bad analogy, bud.
