Hi guys,

Just finished ACII, and what an incredible game it was, an improved version over the original in every way conceivable. It probably is the most improved sequel of all time (making the first look like a beta, or prototype build in comparison).

We have seen many games with great cinematics over our gaming years (with a sharp increase this gen alone), and usually, the obligatory logo (the one that appears on the boxart of any game) is thrown in somewhere near the beginning of the game. This generation, a few have attempted at being emotionally gripping in the process (Uncharted 2, MGS4, Modern Warfare 1, among other games, timed the logo sequence in unison with an atmospheric, highly emotional sequence).

What game have you witnessed the logo appear on the screen with such impact, such emotional grip that it captured the essence of the game?

To me, it is, hands down, Assassin's Creed 2, in particular the "Sibling Rivalry" quest. It introduces the AC2 logo after a lengthy prologue, and the end result is nothing less than emotionally gripping, especially if you are aware of the events that will follow with Ezio's family. The buildup to that point emphasized on Ezio's humanity, and his strong bond with his brothers, and family. No other game this generation has so successfully timed the logo sequence with such impactful foreshadowing. In fact, I would go as far as to say that I have seen no other game pull this off so effectively in any gaming gen.

If only AC2 had that kind of momentum from beginning to end, then it would have been my personal GOTY easily (and I'm an Uncharted and MGS fanboy). I'm a sucker for well-executed drama scenes.

Link here (timestamped at 1:20) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2mgUoICv7o#t=1m20s (minor early spoiler warning).

If you have other logo sequences to share, feel free to post it here. I would love to see some other ones done so well.

Easily the best first chapter since Halo CE, I'm digging this games story hard. It's fantastic!

Sort of like the "Batman Begins" of the series, despite coming second. It's giving Uncharted 2 some real GOTY competition.

AC2's first assassination was just simply amazing i like how they cut the death soliloquy crap to minimum, and provided a letter for their motives rather than sit thru the whole chat.

It was a great way of showing the Creed emblem, but how was its presentation emotionally gripping in any way, manner or form?

ACII absolutely blew me away. Definitely the most improved sequel this gen. I doubted it. After beating it, shame on me.

Assassin's Creed 2 is my GOTY edging out Dragon Age Origins, Demon's Souls, & Uncharted 2. Awesome game.

Do you need to play the original to appreciate the storyline in this game?

absolutely.

Well I know what game I'm going to pick up in the used games section next time I'm at EB. However, I heard it was really reptitive so that's why I haven't played it yet.

Indeed, I was going into the game with the mindset that AC2 will be a minor improvement like AC1, but with more missions, yet repetitive : oh how low my standards must have been...

... I was completely blown away by the increased production values in all aspects (attention to detail, increased mobility, enhanced combat system, dialogue, voice acting, script, storyline, music, puzzles, use of real-world assets to enhance the story such as real paintings and portraits of historical events and people). And the game did not feel repetitive and boring to me as the original did, not even once. The game threw me COMPLETELY off guard.

I only completed like 1/3rd of AC before getting bored, and I haven't found AC2 hard to follow, I'd say you could probably just read the plot summary on wikipedia or something and then you'd understand AC2's story.

Oblivion's intro was incredibly gripping when the name came up, I can't think of anything that quite compares. The musical score in that game was incredible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EY4BdeMF650#t=1m7s

Good to hear that. I loathed the first due to the mission structure and the combat due to one guy attacking at a time. Might have to check this one out now.
