Before achivments, the only way to show your skill in single player games was High Score (which is pretty much dead) and speed runs. Either that you told a story of what you did in single player which people blasted off saying "whatever."

Now with achivments the way players show there "skill" doesn't always have to be in competitive multiplaer matches, but in single player games as well. Dont tell me that one of you freinds aren't jelous because you got Mile High Club on veteran while he doesn't. Achivments revive the single player experience and the relevence of single player games.

Yes and no.

Even if I hate the idea of people playing just to show, I beated General RAAM on insane just to have the nice achivement.

My logic says NO, but actually I enjoy having that achivement

**Achievement

Anyways I wish more PS3 games had Trophies. I can become pretty OCD about trophies if only they had more games that supported them.

Actually, it's an achievement for completing the namesake final level in call of duty 4: modern warfare.

It's not so much that they make games better, but they add replay-ability. I played through the GRAW 2 campaign three times to get the achievements for beating Acts 1, 2, and 3 on each difficulty.

How is that a fact? Please explain.

Because a game with an extra feature (that doesn't change or ruin the game) is always better than the same game without the extra feature.

Because achievements take nothing away from a game, and give the option of adding to it.

Therefore, given that there are no negatives to having achievements, anyone with half a brain could see that a game with achievements is factually better than that same game without.

Maybe if they would take around the same level of skill.
I still think it's the games that should be good enough to make You want to play.
Sometimes You don't want to feel rewarded either, or they make me aware i'm just sitting in front of a screen.
Fair's fair, they can be funny and it feels nice when You get them (at the most unexpected moments really).
I like the idea of achievements as long as it's not forced upon a game.
Main reason: Almost all gamers don't finish their games and often that is a shame.
Have to be a bit careful You don't make games too addicting though when using all that collecting stuff.

I don't think you understand what the word "fact" means. What you've just stated is, in fact (ironically), an opinion. One could make an argument--and many have--that achievements actually do take away from the games. If something can be opposed, it's not a fact. Try again.

Achievements are not integral to my game experience, and I have never gone out of my way to get an achievement.

However, it is not to say that it doesn't add to the single player campaign. In some ways it reminds me of the old days where we had to look for easter eggs, secret passages etc.

Anything that makes you want to replay the single player is a great addition.

For those who care its great. For those who don't, oh well its nice to have.

I wouldn't say it makes the game more relevant or makes the game better. I think it gives even more reason to play the single player campaign again.

I don't care either way, but I definitely see why people do care.

Any extra in a videogame is good no matter how well it is executed, because it is an extra (unless it completely destroys the gameplay).

I wouldn't want that achievement window popping up during, say, a horror game. Can You turn them off? (The thing's not even mine.) I was just saying cause i can imagine a developer wants to implement their own kind of unlockables, structure or create their own kind of mood without triggering achievements.
As i said i like the idea behind achievements. Not for boasting but mainly because so few games are actually finished. I would like to see them on other consoles too.
(BTW i wonder how trophies work on PS3. Haven't really ever seen anything about that.)

I don't really care about showing off my "skillz" so much as I think Achievments add a game within a game to see if I can accomplish different tasks... I love achievments...

The sad thing is you're trying so hard tocome across as intelligent and yet, you couldn't put up a valid argument as to how they are bad. No one can, know why? Because they don't, they can be ignored completely. They don't have a negative, there is nothing bad about it.

There just adding to it.
