[QUOTE="Quack_Attack"]Better than PS3, not better than PC.tacubano
so u are saying that if u had the same game in 360 and pc u would pick pc even though the 360 had achievements and was exactly the same???? what does the pc have that the 360 doesn't???
Mods. Free games are better than a fairly small amount of new gameplay (juggling a car for seven seconds).in a way achivements make u want to get them so bad that u'll skip story line or other features in a game just to get themtacubano
Achievements give me a reason to keep playing the game over instead of just beating it once and never playing it again. realityillusion

They give you a idea of something to do, but no reason to do it,
They are fun. They are great in a game like Gears where you check to see what your teammates achievements are before the game to try to judge the level of experience your comrades have.

You don't play the game for the points but it is cool figure out some measurement of your skill. You're telling me that when playing Mario 64 you didn't try to get all the stars? That is similar to an achievement. So was a time run through contra or the original mario. Achievements are simply an extention of accomplishments in gaming like these.
Ok let me rephrase what i said. Achievements are one of the reasons i play through a game. happy now?realityillusion

I went for 120 start because they were fun, I also went for a Knife only (except bosses) run on RE because I really liked the game and was fun, i didn't needed some message and some points to an epeen card. In fact i prefer some extra content for achivements like new hats for the character or some concept art like many games in the past did, insted we recieve points to our epeen card and we have to pay for the extra content.PS3 will soon have achievements with digital trophies. All lemmings get is text, LOL. :lol:TimstuffOMFG?!! TROPHIES? o we lemmings have been owned........ :roll:
They had a problem which was Gamertags had no value and people wanted to change their name every 10 minutes. Now, people take their Gamertag seriously and invest in it since it has a Reputation and Achievements associated with it.Berserker_2"Seriously"? "Invest"? "Reputation"? Is a game dude :( : Im done with taking gaming seriously with my 2 years in WoW... leaving the stupid epeen races was the best gaming decision i could have made and im not going back.

Also, achievements have nothing to do with extra content. Many times in games themselves, aside from achievements, you get unlockable items for playing the game and playing it well. In DOA 4 you get unlockable content for winning matches and points to spend in their toon shop.
Don't relate downloadable content to achievements because they have nothing to do with each other.

You say that, and I thought achievements wouldn't be something I would be interested in, until I was online playing Gears and suddenly I saw the message, "new achievement unlocked". I went and checked to see that I had hit 100 executions in Gears. I kind of thought to myself, that's cool.  Honestly it's like they subliminaly draw you in.
They are basically just a rating of experience in a game. Not liking achievements is like not liking statistics in a game.

The problem with achievements is that they waste developers' resources (time and money) that could be better spent on other aspects of gameplay. If a user wants to set up some sort of silly artifical "achievement" to strive for, more power to them.
But the needs of that user, and their strange desire to play the game in bizarre ways, should not devour resources developers might spend to make all customers more happy (debugging, more content, etc).

I didn't say that I was going to put my achievements and rep on my resume. Games are often about competition. So, as a competitive guy, I like the fact that I can display my achievements and rep to my fellow gamers.

I doubt they spend much time at all. I'm sure the code for the computer to register that you've won 100 matches in a game, or 10 in a row, or hit your 100 headshot and to have that register on a log takes much developer time.

Rival guilds payed real money to one of our officers to rob our guild bank in WoW, i know about "taking gamming seriosuly", "statics" and "rating experience" and im not going back. Im playing OoT atm for second time and im having a blast, i don't need to tell anyone about my progress, im not doing a perfect run or trying to break any record and it feels so good... compared to having a game transformed into a De facto second job like WoW did.[QUOTE="lordseer"]Seriously? Wrong. It takes no work to implement achievements. For example, some games simply give you points for finishing each level. How much development time was spent on that? Let's see, 10 levels at 100 points for each level = 1000 total points allowed for a game. Other developers get creative, but the achievements often reflect stats which are already tracked in-game. In Gears, every bullet is recorded regardless of achievements. So, killing 10,000 enemies will unlock an achievement.[QUOTE="lordseer"]Seriously? Achievements are the equivalent of having to dust your room in comparison to a life long career in construction in terms of "work".
