idk...the entry level 360 is at $279 right now... it's not hard to think they can shave off $80 in a year..
heck..sony shaved hundres in only one year....
let me guess; "but that's different"...
I agree. I believe that the quickest to that price point or below out of the 360 or ps3 will decide the winner out of the two. The 360 seems the most likely at this point in time, considering that the ps3 just had a large price drop, where as the 360 hasn't.
All Microsoft need to do is fix the 3 red lights, which will stop them losing money, and then they will be able to afford a decent price drop. As for the ps3, games seem to be major problem, 2008 seems to have them, so we will have to wait and see how well the big franchises do.

no its not, they shed that price because it wasnt selling....desperation? probably. Its just thats a pretty low price for what seems to be a little early this gen. Maybe in a few years

ms is already making a profit off every 360 sold... giving them much more leverage for competitive pricing...;)
at the end of 08 that'll be the 3 year mark for the 360... easily able to hit $199 at the 3 year mark...

good that there finally making a profit, but there really is no reason to make the 360 that price when it is selling at its current price.

uh, yes there is a reason.. to grow the userbase and further crush the ps3 into oblivion...;)
growing the userbase i agree with, but there already ahead of sony so "further crush the PS3 into oblivion" really wouldn't matter when they still have nintendo ahead of them. This "console war" is not only between sony and ms. Broman6015
Microsoft's strategy this gen is to end Sony's dominance in the industry.
To that end, Nintendo is seen as an ally. Remember, it was P.Moore who started the "Wii60" movement.
20gig PS3 next year, 200 dollars. Confirmed.DaysAirlines
That would be insane. If they remove Wi-Fi from the system. Give it only a 20gig HDD and no extra games, they could do that. Or at least bring it down to $300. Then the 360 would be in trouble.
The X360 will reach $199 by next holiday season ($80 drop). The PS3 will probably reach that price holiday 2009 ($200 drop). The reason I say this is because of X360's head start. Sony has already had to cut the EE chip, blu-ray diodes cost reduction, lose card readers, reduce hdd size, and go 65 nanometer to get to $399 in the 40GB and they are still losing money. I don't see Sony caughting $200 more off during 2008. That would make the PS3 look weak and a $400 price drop in 2 years.Danthegamingman
Its that damn blu-ray drive. That is still costing them a huge amount of money but is also is a major selling point of the PS3. I am suprised they were able to drop the system by $200 already. They finally got it out of their heads that the PS3 is an "entertainment system" and made it a strick gaming platform. Something they should have done from the start.
At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony did that, if they release another downgraded sku for that price. They're so desperate. Can you imagine dropping the price and degrading a sku all in a year. While on the other hand the 360 upgraded theirs and had a real price drop on the second year not the first. And Nintendo is still sitting pretty with their price point. Dumbest move by Sony, thats why they will always be last this gen.

if that were the case they should pack in a game instead of Spidey 3 for the 40gb version. To me it still looks like a blu-ray player at retail when you pack in a movie insted of a game.....and guess who is closer... yep...the 360....:)

This has got to be THE worst fanboy comment I've seen in the last couple of months. "Yeah... My 360 can't do it either... But the PS3 is worse so it's Sony's stupidity with blu-ray and cell!!"
uh, yes there is a reason.. to grow the userbase and further crush the ps3 into oblivion...;)tango90101
First they'll need to actually crush it in order for them to try and crush it further.

It seems that they are more focused on getting Blu-Ray to be the winning format than the games for the PS3 to be sucessful. Sony needs to realize that the PS3 isn't going to all of a sudden take the lead when there is very little reason to own the system other than to watch movies on it.
The Core 360 might see that price next year (maybe when GTA releases) but the PS3 will not see that price anytime soon. Microsoft is in the position to atcutally drop the price to that level. Core 199, Premium 299 and Elite 399 (or less). The PS3 on the other hand would have to drop 200 bucks and I don't see that happening.

how about the elite i dont care for the prem or the arcade the best is the elite. like i always say if you dont own the top sku whats the point in owning one at all?
