Activision warns a standard 500GB PS4 may no longer fit Call of Duty: Warzone, Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare • Eurogamer.net

'Storage is an issue Activision addressed overnight, warning that those who own a standard PS4 with a default hard-drive of 500GB (that's me!) may need to make room if they have the full versions of Modern Warfare, Warzone and Black Ops Cold War with all modes and packs installed.

This means that for the first time Activision is warning that all three games installed to their fullest and up to date with Season Two will not fit on a standard PS4 any more.

"Should you have both games installed and have kept up to date with updates, you may need to delete some unused game content to have a successful download and install of the Warzone patch tonight," Activision said.

You can uninstall parts of Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare to save space, but it's a landmark moment that shows just how big Call of Duty install footprints have become.'

Which one would you uninstall?

Why is it that if I want to play Modern Warfare's campaign or coop mode, I'm obliged to install Warzone too?

I don't play Battle Royale.

The latest update is 17GB but the PS4/PS5 needs 100gb free in order to install that 17GB update

Yeah, with these ridiculous sizes, developers should give you the option to choose what to install. But I guess it's one of those things where you MIGHT buy a lootbox if you have everything installed, as opposed to just to campaign, which isn't making them anymore money aside from the initial 70 bucks you gave them. And we all know that doesn't do these days.

It's like the MCC. I just wanna play Halo 2, but I have to download the entire thing.

It's not really the size of the update that is the problem. It's the way the Playstation installs updates.

From what I've read it needs to copy the game to apply the update, which is why you need 100gb free to be able to install a 17gb update.

Way to burn through an SSD with limited write cycles eh?

Exactly, give us more options. Options should be obligatory when your game is 200+GB.

Do you mean MCC on PC? I actually never had any issues there. You can check the DLC that you want and I think the initial MCC (without any games) is just 5GB.

I also went into the game's folder and deleted individual games sometimes.

On Xbox. I played all Halo games, except 2. And if I wanna play that, I need to download everything. I'll do it one of these days. It's just silly.

@freedomfreak: I think Halo 2 is the largest one, as it has all these remastered cutscenes, hehe.

Lol. I actually do have Modern Warfare and Cold War on my PS5. At some point, I think it took up 280gb. Once I was done with the Cold War campaign, I was able to uninstall that part and save 60gb.

One CoD is too many. Anyone with three installed on the console needs to get out more, there are many other games to play. That and CoD takes up waaay too much space.

A bit astounding that a 5 1/2 corridor shooter campaign, a handful of multiplayer maps, zombie mode, and a battle royale mode where you play on the same one map over and over can take up so much disk space. I would ask what the heck they're even using all that disk space for - if I cared about the games. Maybe they're too lazy to compress and optimize their assets properly.

Or maybe Activision are deliberately trying to crowd out other games and hold your consoles hostage, in a sinister attempt make you accept their games as your life, through a sort of bizarre roundabout kind of Stockholm Syndrome.

It's probably absolutely something they could cut way down, they just don't want to invest the man hours to put in the work.

I think maybe console manufacturers need to start policing how wasteful devs are with space. There are far better looking games that take up half the space of COD.

Nice of Activision to inform PS4 users of this. They also should know Xbox One and Xbox Series S also have similar capacity but those are irrelevant systems only talked here in forums.

Xbox's don't need 100GB free to install a 17GB update. That's why the warning was issued to PS4 users.

The games size is most like down to the way assets are stored on a physical HD. They have to repeat data dozens of times to reduce the drives access time.

Why would anyone have three similar games installed at once?
