This is currently an option that both Activision-Blizzard and Vivendi have considered. If this does happen activision-blizzard would have to team up with their investors to make this option viable.

They should be independent away from Vivendi. Best possible scenario though is for Microsoft to buy out Blizzard-Activision and port more games on its Windows 7 and Xbox 360 platform.

That would be a brutal day in SW.

Can you imagine the petitions?

I can see people complaining but once the deal is done, its done. Profit over a complaining fanbase.

Activision could buy itself out, then purchase Blizzard as FP, then after the next COD, but THQ, Vivindi, and Crave, then make their own consoles to compete next gen with exclusive COD trashing all other consoles. Hopefully that's another dimension in the time space and will never happen here.

Except that could be seen as anti-competitive if someone like Microsoft owned such as big publisher.

What aout EA, Crave, Conspiracy, THQ, Nick, Square, Atari, Atlus, etc? Activision is not the only publisher out there.

They don't have a big enough market cap to buy Activision-Blizzard.

No, read the quoted post, he said that MS buying Activision would be anti-competitive.

Not really. The only problem I would see is how much money Microsoft will lose from buying them.

Each Call of Duty makes, on a good event, braings in about $1 billion in revenue. Around 60% of the Call of Duty sales come from the Xbox 360. Let's add another 5% for a PC version. Development costs are around $30 Million (could be less if it becomes a PC + Xbox exclusive). Add some $60 million for marketing costs.

$600 Million [Xbox 360] + $50 Million [PC Version] - $30 Million - $60 Million = $560 Million.

Microsoft would be bringing in $560 Million per Call of Duty. Add the pillars from Blizzard and some other Activision games, and it will take a good while to even get back that $8 billion.

Also note, Microsoft wouldn't own the entire company. They will only gather majority control. I don't see them buying it.

Perhaps MS won't make as much money, but getting their hands of the CoD franchise will be a big win in their eyes.

All that matters is the money though.

they would still be bringing in money, just not as much if hey make it exclusive. The CoD name is worth lots, and MS/Sony know that.
