Didn't see any other topics about this - what do you guys think? How does it stack up to turn-based strategy on other systems?

edit: I can't link, sorry (firefox)

First off, I love Firefox.

Secondly, I think this is a fair review.

The game sure drops a lot from the originals that it's built on for three generations now. Regardless of how much they've added it just feels lacking because it's all I've ever known for the last 8 years or so. The new additions are great, don't get me wrong, but I want a lot of what the other ones had. Personally, I don't like the insane about of text or plot in this new campaign. I just don't care, lol.

As a TBS, it's pretty top-notch. There's great strategy, but once again, compared to other Advance Wars titles it feels excessively different. I'm sure I'll get used to the changes though.

I preferred it to the first one on the DS but it does have a lot less content

I'm still considering purchasing the game. For those of you that own it and are playing it right now, what do you think? Is it still worth buying over the previous iteration?

IMO it's a better game than AW DS and the stories much better. It's just not as lighthearted

Wow...that's interesting. I expected AAA.

I don't care, still buying it. The campaign's always been hard. Why is that under "the bad"? That's a good thing imo.

Yes. But it's a great game anyway. To "the-very-best": I didn't understand why the game being hard is a bad thing too.

Sounds great. I'm still playing Dual Strike (mission 17 or so), but when I'm finished, I look forward to sinking my teeth into Dor.

And I've never found AW hard so much as a game that just requires you to use your brain. I don't see that as a negative quality.

That's funny, I always thought Advanced Wars: Dual Strike was superior to AW2 in every way (more units, more extras, etc same great gameplay), but I guess that is just me.

I'm about half way through now and I really like the changes.

The units seem to be a lot more balanced then they used to be, and for me it makes mixed unit tactics more viable rather than just pull out stronger units with half assed support.

And I really didn't like the reliance on CO's and their upgrades and powers. Especially in the single player, being forced to use the same units with different modifiers, prices, etc. was somewhat cumbersome.

Interesting.

IN all seriousness though the 'serious' tone is a bit laughable - especially as a post apocolyptic one.
It seems it wants to be deep and moody, but cant put on this persona

If you want a proper dark post apocolyptic tone the Fallout series is probably perfect

Still AW games are kickass, and the best handheld strategy will ever get.

Look like it didn't get AAA. Still a good score through.

spikegriffin made a good point, it's more balanced. AW2 is still harder, but i like how they changed things a bit, and the new look is gorgeous. if you have friends to play against, it's a great game to have. :)

Individual units can now earn ranks through combat, with higher-ranked units being more potent.Review

Bleh. I hate when RTS games do that. Third in annoyingness next to heroes and accompany-missions.

IMHO, it's the best AW yet.
