So I consider myself a PC gamer. I've always been a huge FPS fan. However, I bought a nice comfortable couch and don't feel like moving my PC into the living room every time I want to play a game.

SO i bought a PS3 mainly because I liked the idea of RFOM 1+2 and KZ2.

But man oh man do I stink at using a Pad with FPS's. I'm pretty good with them and TPS's . However I feel like I can't get a good accurate shot with the pad. Do you guys Tap the pad or set sensitivity or whatever?

And whats with the PS3 Pad not using R2 for shooting?

Anyways just want some info. Should I line up my shots and strafe? Duck??!?!

I only play exclusives on the PS3 as I play all the multi FPS on PC, Multi TPS on PC w/360 controller. I only play PS3 exclusives with the PS3 controller and I"m awful.

Please don't turn this into a PC vs PS3 control thread. I really want advice on using a controller for FPS on the PS3. I know how to use a K+M

To be honest, I couldn't stand playing Resistance on a PS3 controller. The 360 controller is a much better set up. But um... that also requires a 360 so I guess thats kind of a moot point. Anyway. The PS3 controller is awkward for shooters. It didn't feel right for me. Its great for other genres, but I just wasn't feeling it for FPS at all.

I ran into the same issue, I was so used to playing shooters on the 360 and PC for so long that when I started to play resistance I was worried that I'd never be able to get use to it. The switch from 360 controller to PS3 was extremely hard for me shooter wise (I blame my countless hours on Halo), however after a three day all out FPS gaming on the PS3. I finally got used to it and now I absolutely love the feeling of my PS3 controller for shooters.

What it boils down to is you need to get used to it and get well the "feel for it".

Right Now, I actually changed the controls of Resistance 2 to the Default controls of Killzone 2. Its actually feeling really nice if you are not liking the control settings of Resistance 2. Being a fan of shooters my entire life, I am already getting prepared for Killzone 2. I have a pretty good cycle going on, PC for COD games/Crysis, 360 for Halo, and PS3 for Resistance 2/Killzone 2. This generation is kick ass for shooters.

you can customize your controller settings to make r2 shoot. Console fps tend to have a little micro bit of auto aim , if your opponent is moving side to side , just track them and keep the crosshair lil bit infront. Consoles will never be as great for fps's and PC unless the devs allow for keyboard and mouse.

Be the first to mass produce a 360 skinned controller to work with the PS3...That's really the only hope..

You just have to get used to it really, all gamepads are all the same. A combination of strafing and aiming is usually the easiest way

I must be some kind of god at FPS; I couldn't care less what is in my hands when it comes to playing them.

If you have a problem with using controllers, it's not the controller... it's you.

The triggers are horrific for shooting. Every game that uses the bumper benefits, every game that uses the triggers fails. I set the sensitivity high and you've gotta rub that sweet analog softly in the direction of your choice. There's a bit of a dead zone, try not to flick it because it will set it into territory that will overshoot, apply constant pressure until you pass the deadzone then hold it for smooth aiming. You don't have to duck, just find cover, get as many headshots as you possibly can, dodge bullets if the projectiles are slow enough, or keep a safe distance. Wait for your health to recharge, etc.

I do not get where all this hate for Console FPS come from. Maybe I am just used to the Playstation controller because it is the one I have used most of my life?

Anyways if it bothers you that much you can look into getting something like this: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=2587209

I could also drive with my feet....but it doesn't make me a god at driving...

The DS3 is just to small...I wish Sony made a larger DS3...or better yet some third party made a 360 controller that works with the PS3..

I don't understand how anyone can say that 360 has a better controller for fps. In all honesty they are both basically the same to me.

Yep. The whole trick is to get in sync with the opponent's movements to get a bead on them, while staying out of sync when they're trying to do the same to you.

Practice, that's it. You have to get used to it, keep playing and you'll get the hang of it in a few days.

I guess I'm one of the few who finds the D S 3 fine for FPS's. I've been playing a ton of Resistance 2 and never found it to be a problem. All I can suggest is practice.

I was in the same boat a few months ago, been playing PC FPSs since Doom with KB+M. I think that it depends on the game. I found the transition to Halo 3 extremely frustrating at first, whereas Left4Dead was smooth. I still can't pull off the headshots I'd be able to do on the PC, but you'll eventually get more used to it.

Youll get used to it.

Also if you can change shoot to R2, I recommend you get some trigger add ons for the L2 and R2 buttons, theyre about £3, and they are really good.

Thats just a fanboy comment! I was playing Halo 3 the other day fell right back into it again the 360 controller is excellent for FPS games. Oh yeah i have a PS3 with COD WAW and guess what its perfectly fine as well, i honestly can not understand the negative comments directed at the PS3 controller and its performance in FPS games! If anything i personally think the PS3 controller may well be more sensitive making it initially harder to use but actually resulting in a better experience over time and practice. What i am going to attempt to do soon is play COD WAW on the 360 and see how it fairs.

Have to add if we are talking about Triggers here the 360 is easily the Superior version i was rambling on about movement and aiming.
