this is the real JRPG of the gen, i cant belive that this game got only 7.5 and FFXIII got 8.5 even 2 years after

LO is better JRPG then FFXIII, the combat is better, like real JRPG, the story is much much better even the ART is better

the only thing that FFXIII is better is the graphics.

man JRPG standarts this gen is only get lower and lower

I found the battle system in FFXIII to be far superior, on top of being much more interesting. After all, a JRPG doesn't need to haave the old-school turn-based system to be considered as such.

ok you can love or hate the battle system this is up to you (but most of JRPG fans will like LO's battle system then FFXIII's battle system) but the story in LO is one of the best

Why would most JRPG fans prefer LO's battle system? You know this how? Statistical survey?

Truth is, LO's battle system harkened back to the old school JRPG's, whilst FFXIII's evolved it. It's all preference, but don't make such ridiculous claims.

The story in LO whilst good, was by no means the best. The "1000 Years of Dreams" however were a vastly redeeming feature.

Heh, I disagree. I didn't like much in LO. Kain and the "funny" guy, forgot his name were the only likable characters in that game. But even the funny guy got on my nerves after a while...

Actually, I did like the battle system though.

Actually, I consider LO my JRPG of the gen which, while not saying much, isn't a bad thing. FFXIII had its redeeming qualities, but in my eyes, LO was simply a better game. Yeah, I think they had the ratings backwards (I'd do 8.5 and 8.0) and LO is one of those games that got seriously underrated. I get the feeling a lot of reviewers panned it because it was old school, whereas games get inflated scores because they're new and different, not because they're good. I could see someone preferring either one, but LO wins it for me.

As boring I thought it was playing FF13 on my friends PS3 I at least finished it due to it's unique summons, less crappy story and better magic. Lost Oddesey was boring I couldn't for the life of mine keep playing the thing. Oh so I just attack with Kain and Seth over and over...BOOO! So what I am saying is god man, Lost Oddesey was a horrible game it is my least favorite RPG next to FF7 and FFX2

Never played LO, But I do like FFXIII. Very fun, and I for one actaully like XIII's story. Dialogue is a bit silly at times though.

I haven't played FF13 and have only finished disc 1 in LO but right now 7.5 to 8 seems about right. I like the combat system but the game lacks good pacing and some dialogue is pointless and/or stupid.

The 1000 years of dreams are really, really great. But they do break the pacing to a stretching halt. I'm enjoying the story and characters and we'll see what the other 3 discs have in store. And also its really ****ing stupid that the game is on 4 discs but whatever.

Lost Odyssey has its flaws in both gameplay and story...........but the script and writing are top notch. Unlike FFXIII.texasgoldrush

I'd be careful about critiquing the actual script of FFXIII, because the script present in FFXIII is only vaguely similar to the original Japanese dialogue and doesn't really reflect the quality of the writing that Square Enix Japan developed.

Not that the Japanese ver is some masterwork, but there is a pretty big disparity that I found when playing both versions.

nothing in FFXIII has anything on Lost Odyssey's 1000 Years of Dreams...in fact, very few games do. Even if the script for XIII was good, its a case of LO's writing being top class (it owuld be more about it being good, than XIII being bad)

Your fun ends there...like the gameplay you have with kain and seth? IT WILL NEVER change except for the later ability to hit four times..and it is still dull.

I just read the GS review and wow it expressed all my thoughts completely and perfectly. I must say KVO nailed it on the head. The other non-combat portions are not that great. I'm really getting into LO and even if the combat doesn't change completely I am enjoying the management and finding out the best plan of attack for each battle.

Oh well here goes disc 2, if the story continues to be good which it sounds like and the 1000 years of dreams are still awesome (no like seriously they are ****ing amazing) I will be fine.

Lost Odyssey is more of a Final Fantasy game than FFXIII is. I guess it helps that most of the FF team that's worth anything worked on Lost Odyssey where FFXIII was developed by a group of nobodies.

I didn't care for neither title to much. Ended up growing bored of both titles to point I didn't finish either one. I do admit though i did like FFXIII's ATB system and Lost Odyseey 1000 years of Dreams and soundtrackthough.

Actually Lost Odyssey was developed by Sakaguchi and a lot of the team that worked on the Shadow Heart games (plus members from Sqaure). As for FFXIII it was developed by Square's Production team 1 (FF6,FF7,FFX, FFVIII, some of the team also worked on Chrono Trigger). I wouldn't say Team 1 is bunch of nobodies even if you dislike FFXIII.

Pretty much. Sakaguchi has a far firmer grasp on what makes a Final Fantasy game what it is, and Uematsu is THE composer for the series. Without him the series takes a massive hit.

The battle system for FF13 was good at least i prefered it over LO but i do agree that LO is the better rpg. The game was scored low because it stuck too much to traditional jrpg roots and wasnt innovative enough but thats all bull. LO story for a jrpg this gen so far is still unmatched and kaim is one of the best main characters in an rpg.

Lost Odyssey is unquestionably the best JRPG of this generation, no doubt. I honestly, 100%, cannot understand how the game is rated so lowly. Great story, fantastic characters and great combat.

FF 13 is one of the worst JRPG's this gen, I don't even want to class it as a FF game.

Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia are the two best I've played this gen.

In a 1up interview, Kitase gives directoral credit for FFVI to Sakaguchi. Kitase had some influence, such as making Celes a more important character, but he developed it along with Sakaguchi and Itoi. Once on his own however, Kitase's flaws in direction start to show. He is really good at creating great moments. He doesn't know how to put them together. FFVII is a huge example of this.
