RDR is easily one of my favorite games this gen. John Marston is one of the best characters this gen also. I really do not know why you are comparing it to Heavy Rain since they are nothing alike. If you are just talking about story and characters then RDR wins hands down. Oh and I am still angry at Rockstar for the ending.

What magic level were you when you casted that? I think you could have just gave him a "rainbow anklet" that way you don't have to waste your MP casting eusana cuz he's bounf to get confused again

he could just wait it out... You guys are taking this waaaay too seriously. :PThe problem with RDR is that it feels too much like GTA... and i'm completely sick of GTA games. The way the characters handle and having to do large U turns when turning around.. i dont know, rockstar needs to update the way their open world games function, its getting stale regardless of the skin they put on it.
Heavy Rain, amazing? Hahahahahah, ah dear. That game can't even work out a decent and coherent plot or narrative without being full of holes and character continuity issues. It's okay, and a bold experiment in the evolution of the Fahrenheit formula for a triple A game. It's not terribly good, nor is it great, at all.skrat_01I heard all that stuff about massive plot holes and expected to be disappointed by the story when I got the game, but I don't remember noticing any plot holes at all. I'm not saying they don't exist but in the heat of the game I never noticed any, I actually kept waiting for them to spring up like a sore thumb. I kinda felt lied to and should have just expected the amazing and polished experience I ultimately got.
Hated HR. After 2 chapters i just couldn't go any further. Extremely boring game :( . Nothing to say about RDR since its on my top five fav games this gen.silversix_yes first few chapters bored me too
I never understood what was so special about Heavy Rain's plot. It wasn't very good to be honest. The game itself is fun just because it's so unique and the action sequences are great, but story wise, it's about as good as a B rated movie.
Thats what LA Noir is for. R* literally saw what HR was and said, "Hey why dont we take that, and what we did in RDR but make it in a different setting" And boom, there you have it.

You can't read the Private Detective's thoughts about being a killer? are we supposed to think he doesn't know he's the killer?
How about... SPOILERS ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No but its depends how you interpret his thoughts.
Like I said I'm not denying there are holes, but I expected them to jump out at me all the time based on some player feedback and that never happened.
*you should delete or edit your post now by the way, your spoiler isn't well concealed*

I kinda felt lied to and should have just expected the amazing and polished experience I ultimately got.Not noticing? Really? Strange, I found the plot holes glaring, and as the game progressed elements introduced earlier on, which were seemingly irrelevant added to the mess, like the supernatural elements that were introduced (low and behold it turned out the developers actually removed a good portion of supernatural developments, but kept others in ugh). Then as it got more absurd, the pivotal plot 'twist' so badly inserted into the narrative and just not coherent with the characters surrounding development, it felt insulting, like a cheap attempt at pulling the rug out from underneath you for shock value. For a game that was so heavily dependent on plot that's where it crumbled for me, and the rest of the game was spent asking 'why' so many narrative aspects were introduced (the red room for instance), and why David Cage was blowing his own horn so loudly when he had written a plot worse than a C grade TV crime thriller. It wasn't a bad game, and I agree it wasn't an amazing or polished experience either, but at least it did try something different. Problem is many games just don't put a focus on narrative like Heavy Rain, those that do usually keep the narrative techniques clean cut and definable, and then you have the games abstract mechanics along side of it; so the interpretation of a game like Heavy Rain is going to be quite mixed.
Heavy Rain, amazing? It's all about interpretation really
When you're in Alfred's clock store, one of scotts thoughts is "Lauren thinks she's close to finding the killer, I think she's going to be disappointed". I noticed this after playing the gaming a second time; felt so stupid for missing this the first time
it feels like red dead redemption takes too much effort...please discuss red dead redemption on ps3 and 360PSTreyExpo2012well to be fair how can any game compete with the blazing excitement of getting out your asthma inhaler?
dat **** is teh hardcore yo.
Heavy Rain was one of my best gaming experiences this gen. It had its flaws but it blew me away with its intensity and polish. Beautiful game. I have yet to play RDR though - Im just cutting through GTA IV now and definitely not ready for another R* game.
Oh and this thread doesnt make sense to me tbh
Something like that followed by the whole 'blackout' scene, ratchets up there as one of the cheapest plot devices in any narrative.
It's more about decent storytelling.
Weird comparison of the day award goes to you TC.
Anyhoo, I'll just say that one is more game than movie and the other is more movie than game, do ya know which witch is which ?
:P
I agree on the blackout scene, I wish this was explained. Maybe the Psychiatrist was right and it was because of the accident, why he had an origami in his hand is something I dont understand. Maybe split personality ? Who knows.
Still, I have seen WAY cheaper plot devices :D

Maybe its FFXIII Esuna and only costs 2 atb bars.
HR and RDR? Wierd.
I thought HR had some really cool moments, (like when you chop your finger off), and at least tried to innovate. It had lots of plot holes though, and I too got a 'interactive-movie' vibe from it. But really, it was a good try. If they can fix these issues next time and make it feel more game-ey, then it could be a excellent game.
Not really L.A Noire plays very differently compared to Heavy Rain. L.A Noire is more like a graphic adventure while Heavy Rain is a interactive movie. Also so L.A Noire story isn't as bad as Heavy Rain.Thats what LA Noir is for. R* literally saw what HR was and said, "Hey why dont we take that, and what we did in RDR but make it in a different setting" And boom, there you have it.

Alas hahahaha oh there are bad devices, but that is up there with a Deus Ex Machina. But yeah there are so many things floating around the characters in regard to plot holes or question makes I don't see why David Cage didn't retain the supernatural elements.Still, I have seen WAY cheaper plot devices :D
