Poll After the 4/10 REDFALL, what are the chances of Starfield coming out in 2023? (42 votes)

It will come out in September. 48%
It will be delayed to later in the year. 19%
No shot. Its a 2024 title guaranteed. 29%
Be happy if it comes out by Q4 2024. 5%

I don't believe we're seeing Starfield in 2023. Halo Infinite was their first important AAA. Its failed miserably. The 4/10 Redfall was their second important AAA, and it failed so severly that people are beginning to ask themselves if Microsoft is even capable of producing AAA titles.

I don't think MS will be OK with Starfield coming out with a ton of jank like every single Bethesda game, because that point they'll be seen as this meme company that releasing nothing but unfinished garbage, charges $70 for their games, and damage controls their failures with the "Good enough for gamepass".

If it needs more time, MS will throw all of its studios on the project in order to get it out the door in September. This game has to release this year, and it has to be good.

If that is how it worked, you can bet your ass they would've done it for Infinite, a much more important title that was supposed to be the console seller when the system itself was coming out.

I think it’ll still come out this September but if it needs more time then it needs more time. 🤷‍♂️

It didn't seem to stop them from sh!ting out 76 in an unacceptable state. But the stakes are definitely higher with this one.

I need more information to form a solid opinion, but I still haven't seen anything about this game that actually excites me. How is this idea more interesting than an alternate timeline set in a post nuclear war 50's, with cannibalistic bandits, giant irradiated monsters, and a delightfully cheery oldies soundtrack? Maybe it's just not for me.

So it's been a few days.

Anyone else get over the initial mediocre quality shock, and are actually enjoying it? I am. Pretty fun. AI is dumb and honestly only time I get int rouble is when I'm near an exploding barrel or car. But it's fun enough.

I'm playing as the engineer chick. I like the C4 ability but I don't find myself using my robot that much outside of passively being a tank for me and taking aggro, which is handy.

It scratches the itch of mindless killing, something I play games like Diablo or Doom for. It's good for just tuning out and playing by instinct, not thought.

It'll come out and it'll be buggy but more feature complete than Redfall.

At what point was Redfall ever AAA? It didn't have the budget, scope or quality to ever be in that discussion. It was a B tier game from the get go and it even failed to execute on that level. It only got attention because it is an MS exclusive and they are hurting for exclusives.

Anyway, it is possible that Starfield is delayed because there is a lot riding on it. I fully expect it to be janky when it launches as all past Bethesda developed games have been. I just want it to be a good game.

Does this look like a low budget game to you? It became a welfare grade title, but that is not how it looked when it was announced. And no, it didn't get as much attention as it did because its an exclusive. This game is more broken than all broken POS'es released last gen AND the core of the game is completely f*cked. Fallout 76 wasn't exclusive to anything, and it got a lot of shit as well.

If you had a Herman Miller Aeron, you wouldn't be saying such ridiculous statement.

@hardwenzen: Are you seriously going off a CG trailer? Those should be illegal these days as it is false advertising. Nobody even knew WTF the game was for the longest time. It was giving L4D vibes, but Arkane was saying single player immersive sim that could be played in co-op. All lies as they didn't even know WTF it was. As soon as the actual game started being shown, it never looked good graphically or gameplay wise. Like I said, it only got extra attention because it was an MS game.

This is what was promissed, and nothing in that trailer looks like its remotely low budget. At the end, you got a game that was so trash that there is zero cutscenes in it, which is unseen in the AAA industry.

@hardwenzen: Never seen in the AAA space because it was never a AAA game. LOL

By your logic, State of Decay 3 will also be AAA because it has a pretty CG trailer. Even though the game has not been shown at all. Clown logic.

Reserve judgement until the showcase next month, but I'd put money that the gaming division is looking more closely at where the game is, Starfield as I've said before is being positioned to be on the same level as Fallout and Elder Scrolls, so if Starfield does flop in a major way then it's far mor significant than redfall flopping.

Wut? What does SoD has anything to do with the 4/10 Redfall? Redfall is made by Arkane, and all their titles are AAA. You don't need to be told that after seeing the trailer for their new IP, that you can expect it to be another quality AAA title. Instead, they made you believe its the next big thing from Microsoft, but it ended up being shittier than Kickstarter projects that pop up on Steam on daily basis. Funny how similar this was with Halo Infinite. At first they show us this amazing looking engine trailer, and the game comes out looking like this.🤡Its like, Hey guys! Please hype our game for the next few years as this system seller, and when we're ready to release the game, please consider it as a low budget AA/A title, and let everyone know that its on gamepass so its easier to damage control its pathetic launch.

This is not how this works, Steelcase owner.

If Starfield launches in a mess, you can guarantee Rockstar pushing GTA VI into 2025+ with all other AAA studios reevaluating how they do things. Because as of now, what they're doing 'ain't workin'

Why would I want to play Redfall? It's supposedly bugged and glitchy.

TBH I don't care, and have not cared, about release dates in a long, long time.

So 2023...2024...2028...I don't care. Just release a finished, polished, and functional game that's fun to play.

I am drowning in quality games to play at the moment and have been for years; I can wait for the occasional AAA game that appeals to me for a long time.

Just, you know, take all the time you need. I think this whole "hype and release" thing is manufactured by publishers to both artificially gear up demand, so they in turn can stress their developers, who in turn are pressured into making a shoddy product because they had to rush it.

TAKE YOUR TIME! No one needs Starfield, we can play a million other games while we wait.

When the laughable IGN gameplay of 4/10 Redfall was posted, i bet you that if i quoted you saying that it looks like shit, you would've responded to me with the "have you played it" as well. That is not how this works. When it looks like a turd, its a turd. Starfield won't be on the level of Redfall obviously, but it NEEDS to be this GOTY winner level game, not just a good mid 80's on meta title. All hope is on this title.

On topic:

Regardless If Phil Spencer doesn't give AF about xbox series consoles anymore, I don't think he can delay Starfield, and if so November would be the latest he could push it out. He can NOT afford to delay it to 2024 because that would destroy not only Xbox Series sales but ALSO Gamepass subscriber population which he desperately needs to cling on to.

Yes I do believe Starfield will come out in September, it will be riddled with buggy but reviewers will praise it for it's "fun" and will still score it in the 80's or above regardless.

I also think it will also actually be a "good" game, that then xbox fans will over hyped for being the greatest game ever created and why we Sony fans should all throw our PS5's in the garbage.

Starfield being a relatively good, although buggy, game will Sony a little something to motivate them to kick harder this year.

TL;DR

If Starfield is delayed, it won't be past Nov 2023.

FALSE!

The entirety of the media and xbox fans themselves have lowered the standards for Xbox 1st party titles once again to just wanting "a functional" game. Everyone has said, "30fps is the least of Redfall's issues" and were saying they'd be happy if the game was simply complete and had content.

With this new lowing of the bar for MS 1st party games, as long as Starfiled is in slightly better condition than Redfall, being 30fps on Xbox Series Consoles will be over looked.

It's not fair because Sony will still be held to a far higher standard, even by xbox fans, but that's where we are at now.

Not that I think delaying will do anything to the quality of the game. But I think if it gets any more delays it would be short and probably more fueled by a shake-up within Microsoft to be cautious about what they're putting out and to review whether it's ready or not.

I'm pretty sure Todd already confirmed the game was aiming at 30 FPS so I would be surprised if Bethesda ends up releasing a console version running at 60. But I'm also sure everyone will pretend to be shocked and concerned.

Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fo3, New Vegas, Fo4 are all games I've played at release at 30 FPS. I'll probably survive.

It would be nice but they're not exactly known for their technical proficiency. There might be reasons to further delay the game but having a 60fps mode ain't one. If they do delay it I'm fine with that, it's not like there's a lack of good stuff to play.

Don't you people get tired to live in constant drama and fake outrage?

Confirmed? He has never confirmed that. The only indirect semi confirmation that i've heard from Todd is during the Lex Friedman interview. They were talking about Bethesda and Starfield, and he mentioned that frame rate was never their priority, and that it was all about the gameplay. You can assume he is referring to Starfield as well, but all their previous titles were released on a potato, and the X ain't one, so why the hell is there no performance mode? And considering the shitstorm we've seen with Redfall after the announcement of no 60fps, they simply can't afford a pr hit with what is supposed to be the savior game for Microsoft.

@hardwenzen: That interview, plus their track record, makes think that 30 FPS will probably be their target.

I'm not sure if a bunch in morons having a meltdown on social media should be something they should take into account when deciding to delay a game or not.

@hardwenzen: Never seen in the AAA space because it was never a AAA game. LOL

By your logic, State of Decay 3 will also be AAA because it has a pretty CG trailer. Even though the game has not been shown at all. Clown logic.

I gotta side with mr. Wenzen on this one. Redfall is being sold as a $70 game ($90 in Canada). that is a AAA game price, so it should be judged by AAA game standards

Having played the game now (was on vacation) the little bit I tried (about 60 minutes). I would say that the game does have flaws, but it is entertaining regardless. I think a 4 is probably unfair, I would give it a 6 or so.

The selling price of the game does not indicate AAA. The budget and size of production do. NHL games usually sell for $70 USD too and they are not AAA games. They have a small fraction of the budget that a game like Star Wars Jedi Survivor has. Both the same price, both made by the same company, yet massive difference in budgets and production.

Triple A game status is determined by the cost to produce.

Is there a hard, defined, number?

$100 million?

How much did Redfall cost to make?

If we can agree on the definition of AAA, then we can agree what games fall under that banner. From my perspective, I view it as an AAA game.

On topic: I doubt it'll be delayed, but definitely expect some fun, buggy shennanigans.

I am wondering how quickly Bethesda will port over Redfall to PS5 to try to recoup sales. Maybe a "ultimate edition" in a year or so with more content and all the bugs ironed out?

Nope! 😅 That is what makes the term extra "special". 😉
