after trying the wiiremote/move, how'd you judge this innovation?

did it pass the gamer test? is it ready to become the new way of playing games? did it actually improve over the joypad?

I tried both controllers and I think motion controls are the way to go for the future, especially when those controllers can be used horizontally to emulate a classic joypad.

thoughts?

Get ready for the hating :P

As for the innovation itself:

1. I don't think there is any definite future in gaming. No system will overtake the other. I think joypads and motion-gaming will co-exist, neither one consuming the other.

2. I think motion-sensing is great, not as sure about motion-tracking. Motion-sensing retains a gaming-like structure, while motion-tracking is to me too dependant on the motion, less on the making of mechanics. The Wii uses motion-sensing, Move uses motion-tracking.

3. The innovation itself is clever. It undeniably opens up a new dimension in how you play games. Playing an FPS-styIe game on the Wii is fantastic, it's personally one of my favorite control schemes ever. A shame there aren't many FPSs on the Wii (good ones, that is).

I prefer a controller.

It's fun though, when you're not waggling with it.

I like the idea of party games, however I think other things like shooters (unless they are rail shooters) should be left alone.

I dont mind the Wiimote, but i do dislike being constrained to a certain angle/distance from the sensor bar for it to function properly. Still much prefer standard controllers but motion controls work really well with some things (Wii sports is a blast with a few mates).

Boom Blox is a game that would suck if made to be played with a regular controller, so there is definitely room for games that utilize this tech.

The problem arises from devs trying to shoehorn the controls into games that don't need them, because that's where motion control shovelware comes from.

It's not a replacement, but it's a good option for unique games that use them well.

Certain games are fun with it, others are much better played with a regular controller

Too much movement. The controller didn't make games fun before this stuff. Why did they think it needed to appear?

Honestly I think that, with improvements, it should become the new way to play console games.

It doesn't require aim-assist for FPS games, and it opens up the option of more complex strategy games since the IR pointer is more precise than moving around with an analog.

The only problem is both racing, and fighting games which I think could be overcome easily. The Wii Remote can already be used horizontally to play classic games, so if there were four, or six face buttons instead of two then fighting games would work. Racing games would just need a proper joystick layout.

Basically if you merge the Wii Remote with a standard controller to keep all the benefits that both bring then you'd have a pretty incredibly console controller.

I believe both are fun, sony and nintendo (of course they had to...:P) are using them correctly, and supporting them with good games that are pointed to more viewers.

Unlike the kinect....or maybe I just hate dancing.

Can't wait for Sorcey this year! I plan on getting a move with it. :P

Now "Piece of garbage, waste of time."

I think that the Wii remotes and Move controllers could continue to be used in future consoles, but I'd also like the future consoles to have actual controllers. As shown with the Wii, many games are better without motion control. That way certain games can be made just to use the motion controller with, and the other games can use the actual controller. The option to use either is also nice.

It has its purposes (Metroid Prime, puzzle elements, and maybe Skyward Sword. Stuff like that), but overall it failed, although that is arguably not the techs fault (at least not he Wiimotion plus or Move. Original Wiimote was pretty bad), but rather the devs fault.

My only concern for input methods is that they get out of my way and let me play the game.

It's all about the game. I'm not interested in new ways of controlling it, just getting it to do what I want. If they can make a more efficient way of doing that, then fine. But I can click a button faster than you can swing your arm.

Innovation?

It didn't replace the controller back then, it didn't this gen and it will never will. Is just not the proper way of playing games.

It's a lot more accurate than the Light Gun back then.

It's also a bit more accurate in FPS games (Killzone 3 and Conduit tell me this).

Very Nice and Fresh in a Game like Red Steel 2.

Also a Nice Alternative to the 2nd JoyStick.

WM+ is the greatest thing to come out of it, HD Zelda is fine and all but if it will be Upad centric then that's a huge letdown. SS is the next OoT in terms of being revolutionary.

The motion sensor pre WM+ doesn't evolve the gameplay but I was fine with it, gimmicky implementation if you will.

The IR pointer makes Strategy games playable on consoles and improves other genres significantly such as point&click, FPS and can also be used in games to enhance them with cool mechanics such as SMG.

The negative aspect of the Wiimote+nunchuck setup is that it lacks dual analogue so camera control isn't ideal if it's a 3rd person game (hence SMG's fixed camera, which I perfer btw) however CC does exist but this gen in particular it wasn't used in most games anyway.

Next gen the main controller is a traditional one so I expect that the Wiimote setup will be used when needed and not forced. The problem with this is that most devs will ignore this controller in favor of saving resources so I don't expect them to put pointer functionality in their FPS games and such, so I honestly don't know which approach is the best, Wii or Wii U, lol.

I just know that I can trust Nintendo to make the right design decisions for 1st party games. Some genres should use the Wiimote, others the Upad.

i think it makes some games better to play(tombraider anniversary, indiana jones staff of kings, star wars force unleashed part1,party games ,wiisports)...others work better with a normal controller.

having both options is the best way.

FPS is definitely better...for me..i could never use dual analof competetively

I think there are three control types that motion is best for:

1) IR/Reticle control. The Wii's IR feels awesome and makes playing first-person games feel much smoother. It also makes menu navigation a lot easier and opens up new gameplay possibilities

2) Tilt controls. Racing games were made a lot more fun with tilt control, IMO. Excite Truck and ExciteBots are the best examples of this. Tilt controls are also really reliable and intuitive - a much better use for the Wii's accelerometers than waggle.

3) 1:1-like movement. Red Steel 2 and (hopefully) Skyward Sword are good examples. Swordplay is the most obvious thing, although I'm still waiting for a Star Wars game where you actually fight with the lightsaber. It seems so obvious and so awesome that I can't believe it hasn't been done yet.

Everything else was okay but didn't really add anything. Waggle was pointless in a lot of games and just used 'cause it was there. The "controller shaking" that a lot of Wii games used got old. But I think these 3 things are pretty good uses of motion and here to stay.

Same. It has very good potential, it just seems no developers are willing (or capable) of tapping into it.
