That's exactly the reason why gamespot stopped to give the score explanation like the other professionnal site, to be able to completely destroy a game because one of it's advertisers did not like the subject. In this case the game talks about the currents wars and the army of the USA did not like it... so it's a 6.5. Anyway gamespot, stay with your very lucrative contract with the army of the USA, I'll get a professionnal review elsewhere.

Amg, a game scored 1 point less than the average so GS must be involved in some conspiracy against Army of Two.

No offence but from your post you either hate GameSpot, the US or both... Army of Two is a medicore game that got over-hyped, that's all, if you enjoy it then by all means do so but don't hate because critics don't share your opinion.

Actually, I have to admit that the reviewer was kind of mental about the political side of the game. He spent more time complaining about mercernaries than he did complaining about the gameplay.

Oi he's not kidding. I swear to god, I saw Jeff Gerstmann going through my trash the other day. He hasn't been sacked, he's just working in the GameSpot covert ops section

That's what he is complaining about. It isn't a conspiracy theory, he's complaining about some of the reasons for the game being criticised.

Some of you people should go read the review first. I can kind of see where some of the complaints are coming from, but I'd have to play some of the game first to fully agree or disagree.

I haven't read the review, but yeah I kinda agree that it's dumb to criticise games for being political, I don't live in USA and I often see game reviewers punishing games for having overly patriotic American protagonist, plot or something. Guess what, as a gamer, I don't give a damn. I'm not fond of US foreign politics, but America's Army is still one of my favourite games and it doesn't get more political than that. Personally I just don't expect games to reflect the real world objectively.

Edit
Well whoops, I think my post missed the point somewhat ..but whatever.

? Its right near the average - the review.

And everything GS says about the games weaksauce story and poor representation of private military corporations, compared to a countries armed forces is all true.

Shouldn't mean the reviewer that see's a political point of view that he doesn't like affect the final game score or review.

Or is it a case of anything that criticises the US army should be marked down?

A review is an opinion. Sorry, but its true, and every bias will affect score in some way.

I agree completely. But in most games reviews (at least ones I have read), the reviewer tries usually to critique the game on some sort of objective standards and points rather than criticising from a purely personal viewpoint.

Example:

Reviewer might not like a characters design, he might criticise the character within the context of how he doesn't fit into the game, his annoyances, what it is that others may dislike about him also. What the reviewer almost certainly won't do is criticise from his own personal perspective, i.e. he won't say that the character offends him personally or that he found X to offend his beliefs.

The review of Army of Two seemed to be written very much from an extremely personal viewpoint, almost a piece of "blog writing", and stands out when compared to usual gamespot reviews.

True a critique is always far above personal opinion.

That's right, one bad apple is screwing up the privatized military business for the rest of the upstanding mercenaries. Neither Rios nor Salem engages in any dishonorable behavior, aside from making fun of the Army for being so slow and ill-equipped. That would be fine if the Army they were making fun of were the Venusian Army. Or conversely, if Blackwater mercenaries in the real world hadn't been asked to leave Iraq for flipping out and massacring its civilians. But in Army of Two, there's no such thing as a civilian. If they aren't good guys, they're terrorists.

The reviewer is letting politics ruin the game for him and is taking it way to seriously. Thats from the review by the way.

The highlighted part is what I found dumb, sure it might not be a powerful army but keep such remarks to yourself.
