Thoughts-

Impressive. Simply impressive. Every system this gen has either improved or has steadily been given a great lineup since launch.... after the usual start off drought. Devs and publishers are really giving this gen a great push, especially 1st parties. I find the fact that we are not even halfway through the gen and we already have 2 games that are considered to be of the top 5 best games (highest rated) in history (Super Mario Galaxy, Uncharted 2) outstanding. Thats what I like and what its all about, great games.... and it doesn't look like the outbreak of great games is about to let up. Next year looks insane as well.

Thoughts;

I think this is the best gen ever for gaming. Tons of great games coming out all the time. I hate micro-transactions (pics,expansions,etc), but love cheap downloadable games. Not a big fan of the Wii.

Thoughts- I consider this gen to have brought both bad and good things to gaming and the industry. First off, something I consider bad is the rise of costly DLC. I think the gamers should not have to pay for extra things that should have been in the game.

Thoughts:

Surpassed all my expectations. I'm especially happy with most awesome games this gen being multiplat, making the 360/PS3 practically identical. The DS is a monster of a handheld, getting tons of impressive (2D FTW) games every year. We've seen Nintendo and Sony doing an awesome job with their in-house studios, and MS slowly improving. I also like how young this gen feels. we are 2+ years into it, and it looks like it will still last a lot more. The great games just keep coming.

This gen is getting very close to be the best ever.

It is very ironic that video gaming is the industry where the most contempt is shovelled onto 'generic' games and companies that fail to innovate, when so many of them do so. The truly unique ones are just a few minutes of effort away from being discovered.

Thoughts: I think this gen is great, but is sorely missing original games such Oddworld, Legacy of Kain, and more platformers. I hate the extreme fanboyism this gen, and the petty behavior that comes with it. It sucks the life out of talking about games here anymore. Ive been contemplating leaving many, many times. I just wish people would play games, and quit buying into the PR crap, and just enjoy the systems, and give credit to the DEVELOPERS, not the hardware :)

The wii is my favorite due to then ownderfuk niche titles and nintendo franchises.

I love the technical advances this gen has made but I feel there just isn't much originality to go with it. The only really big releases are sequels and with all the new technology there should be new creative ways to utilize it.

My thoughts game wise its been pretty dang good. I dont get the hate that this gen and its games get sometimes. I kinda dont like that now everyone has to have a dam motion gimmick. I mean wii had it first out of the 3 and they should just let it be and focuse on just giving us some more great games. Im kinda happy sony got some of that humble pie so they could take a step back and re look at everything. It seems sony got thier butts in gear and have been making me happy lately especially with the psn. I think every company needs that pie at some point in thier lifespan.

Thoughts on this gen: It's been brilliant. Every single system has had sometop notch games, and there seem to be more AAAtitles (in my mind at least) than previous gens. Great games are being released left right and centre, and there's always something just as tantalizing on the horizon.

Not a serius gamer realy, so i dont have a good understanding of generation gone by. I did own a Xbox, and the huge increase in graphics and online functionality is very impressive. Also love some new IPs this gen, some of witch have realy revolutionised the gaming world (CoH).

Thoughts:

This generation is excellent. Not having gamed during the 6th gen, except for Halo CE and The Wind Waker, everything feels so fresh, and there is so much choice than what I am used to! New input devices, the ability to download more content, expansions and cIassic games, the sheer level of polish that games nowadays seem to have... all of this adds up to a great experience. Maybe I would have looked at things differently if I was coming into this gen from the 6th, but the way I see it is that the industry has matured.

The only thing I desire is a bit of risk taking, and a wider variety.

Favourite system this gen: 360

Thoughts: Way too many quality games in such a short period of time. Way too much concentration on mainstream, "money-making" markets (i.e. Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, WiiSports, WiiFit etc). Loss of the true "plug-n-play" functionality of all consoles (Wii included in some regards) and not enough separation between PC and console experiences. Way too much concentration on "online" and the loss of splitscreen multiplayer and deep singleplayer experiences.

Disappointments:

1. The Wii ~ Easily the biggest disappointment of the generation for me. It was supposed to end up being a "revolution" in terms of how games are played (i.e. virutal reality) and basically ended up as an overclocked Gamecube with a fancy, time-consuming way of pushing buttons and a sore lack of quality third-party support (while some of the best games of the generation being third-party multiplats). Even more so than the Gamecube and N64.
2. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption ~ Easily the most disappointing game of the generation for me. It was supposed to bring new "light" to the way we played shooters on consoles, but aside from the IR censor providing an almost-as-accurate mouse imitation, the use of full-voiced dialogue and the lack of a speaking Samus along with one of the most un-well-thought out end boss fights and the poorest ending of a very well-crafted trilogy was just a very sore spot for me. The game is still very good... just not nearly as good as Prime and Echoes, fell off at the end and suggested to me that Retro "dropped the ball" with the ending and either couldn't decide how to end it, or was forced by Nintendo to end it a certain way.
3. BioShock ~ Hyped by Ken Levine as the "successor" to System Shock 2, to change gaming in every possible way and be the game of the millennium. Ended up being a carbon copy of System Shock 2 with a poorer story, poorer gameplay and way less immersive environment.

Surprises:

1. Dead Rising ~ First game on the 360 I played (the demo) and was floored not only by the quality of the experience, but the amazing level of detail put into recreating the "zombie survival" genre in game form. All zombie games from now on should try to be more like Dead Rising.
2. Mirror's Edge ~ Before I played the demo for the game, it was basically non-existent on my "radar" and ended up being one of the best games I've played this generation, and one of my most favourite.
3. Odin Sphere ~ I had originally played a little bit of it with a friend, but wasn't really that impressed with the gameplay. But as soon as I started into the inter-twining, 5-part story, I knew I had found a gem among a sea of trash (that includes many other games this generation, even ones I like). Despite its technical issues, there is barely any game I can think of with a more well-crafted or moving story.
4. The 360 ~ Up until about the release of Forza Motorsport 2, I was a very staunch cow and then sheep. After Forza 2's release, I became more welcoming to Microsoft and the 360, until eventually buying one and it being my favourite platform of the generation.

Views: The PS3 launched with games that didn't justify it's price, the 360's hardware was as bad as Superman 64, and the Wii has sales which doesn't justify it's games. On the other hand, the PS3 now has some steller exclusives,you get what you pay for with the 360's online, and the Wii? well, I suppose Super Mario Galaxy is a brilliant game.

lol @ haters. they have no idea what they are talking about because we are seeing mad awesome games, as well as the birth of new methods of distribution and popularization of delivery methods that make more widespread indie developers games accessible. also, we got really nice portables this gen, with an actual array of choice. the psp is significantly different from the ds, and obviously caters to a different market, which i really like.

Thoughts on this gen: Eh, it's okay. I wish we had more variety though and more games - the PS2 was a beast. I've always hated RPGs so I mean variety in the action games themselves... too many shooters nowadays. Come on, console has always been about the platforming, let's go back to it! I also miss Nintendo as the last console I bought from them was the N64, which is my favourite console of all time. Alas, I'm not interested in the Wii due to the poor specs. Also, I'd have bought an XBox 360 before I got my PS3 in 2008, but didn't because of the RROD and paying for internet gaming which I think is very lame. I think this gen is fantastic if you own all three consoles. All your gaming needs are 100% satisfied that way - Nintendo for platormers and Zelda, 360 for shooters (Gears/Halo) and PS3 for action (GOW3 to me is an essential game).

Excellent, though not the best, though 2 games have come out this gen which have truly made my top favorites of all time of their genre in persona 4(rpg) and TF2(online/fps), its down right silly for anyone to say this gen sucks...and i still need to get my hands on a wii and ps3 to truly enjoy the greatnesss of this gen

Thoughts:

I really like this gen so far. There are tons of great games, as well as tons of fresh ideas. I'm not blind to the fact that motion controls are here to stay, even if I personally dislike it immensely. It's a little disappointing to see such a lack of JRPGs, although that is somewhat ameliorated by the monster-length RPG known as Persona 4 (I haven't even started on Eternal Sonata because of it...). I also think that the influx of new IPs is great, especially since a solid portion of my top 5 is new IPs. Handhelds are making leaps and bounds in software, if not in hardware. PSP has regained some footing in the software department, which is great to see, while DS maintains (mostly, although I did feel like there were a few droughts) its steady rate of excellent titles.

Still, there are improvements to be made. I think that the Wii is still lacking support from 3rd parties. The current multiplatform titles that the Wii get are a travesty. Most aren't anywhere up to par with the PS3/360 counterparts. Microsoft continues to baffle me with its decisions like the Wifi pricing and 3rd party HD lockouts. I think Live is due for a pricecut, actually, because there's a steady migration of features from Live onto PSN, which remains free. Not to say the PSN is perfect, because update times are atrocious, and Sony hasn't done anywhere near as good a job as Microsoft in integrating online play as a crucial part of this generation. They could probably take a leaf out of Microsoft's book and pack mic sets in, if at only a slightly higher price.

Thoughts on this gen - This gen is filled with high competition and great games. All systems have had great support and the battle between Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is one of the best and bloodiest yet. It seems that gaming gets better and better as each generation passes, and this gen does nothing to break tradition.
