I don't know if your definition of vaporware differs from mine... To me vaporware is a game so unsubstantiated one doubts its very existance and that it'll actually see the light of day. See 2 Days to Vegas and Sadness. Alan Wake has not only had a bunch of screenshots released, it has been demonstrated to the press as well as publically. Furthermore it's developed by a renowned studio and unlike most other vaporware it actually has a publisher. Who btw says it'll be released in 2008.

Alan Wake will be a good game because it's beautiful, atmospheric, takes place in an interesting setting, has an intriguing story and is from the developer of two very solid third person shooters.

And yet it was praised as a great game upon its release. It was also a very unique game. The writing, noir style and the use of "comics" for storytelling. But the thing it's most known for is of course its revolutionary use of bullet-time. Lots and lots of games have since been influenced by that gameplay mechanic.

One thing's for sure...Remedy seems to have put all their eggs in this one basket. If you go to their site they don't appear to have any fall back project but I guess Max Payne 3 is always a possibility. I like the horror genre and I hope they can pull together a good scary game. But waiting until 2009 for it seems ridiculous at this point.JiveT

I think that every game does have a pattern, in RPGs your always leveling up and enhancing skills, in shooters your always shooting or crawling through cinematic momnets, and so on.

Why is everybody so hyped for this game? There is next to no info on it, and I have yet to see any gameplay footage. it is always the same still shots that may or may not be in game. Wait until something good is shown. This game could Lair on you.

Right, but I guess the key point would be that we haven't seen evidence of that yet. On the PC side, for example, still shots and a few demo scenes don't show us that we have a completed, functional game, and for the 360, the game "running" on such high-end hardware does not yet indicate that they've got it working on the 360 properly. It's not an issue of if it can be done, just an issue of "have they done it?".

I never pay attention to release dates. There will a lot of other games to play while you wait, so as long as it turns out great in the end, I don't care.

I'm not a game dev, but I can only imagine the amount of hard work that goes into making a game and getting it perfect, Let them have their extra time.

Of course the game wasn't completed when they showed it off. That's usually the case with games still in development. Trying to insinuate that it doesn't work properly on the 360 because they showed off a tech demo on a high end PC a year ago is pure and utter nonsense. If that is what you're doing.
