Poll Alan Wake series VS Resident Evil Series (69 votes)

Alan Wake is the better series 23%
Resident Evil is the better series 77%

Hello. Was conversing with someone on the forum yesterday (who will remain anonymous) and they repeatedly claimed Alan Wake was better than any Resident Evil game. A bold declaration. No doubt.

Being insecure, immediately ran to make a thread to see if this is reality. The 14-15 should hopefully be an accurate metric.

Which series is better.

Resident Evil

No Caption Provided

Or Alan Wake

No Caption Provided

Please choose wisely, if possible put lots of thought into your answer with multiple paragraphs, if watched a SuperbunnyHop or Matthewmatosis copy-paste what they said to come across as more intelligent.

One word replies are also acceptable.

Alan wake is not series. it only have 1 game while resident evil is yearly annual franchise.

Alan wake is better than any RE game.

  • Better atmosphere
  • Better gameplay and controls
  • Far and Far better story and characters

RE is more maintream and having more and more games making it annual franchise.

Yeah Resident Evil has better mods, but I think overall Alan Wake is one of my favourite horror franchises. It tells a great story and it never screws around with the player with insane difficulty spikes.

It's a series according to Remedy

- Alan Wake

- Alan Wake American Nightmare

- Alan wake sequel (which Remedy is making and Epic is funding)

- Alan Wake related DLC for Control

American nightmare was barely spinoff. just a dream DLC and not very good.

once Alan wake 2 released. it become a full fledge franchise.

also ALan wake 2 DLCs were even better than base game. since they take place in dark world. they have incredibly dark and gritty atmosphere. hope AW2 take place in dark world and AW need to write to get out of dark world.

But how can he write in the dark world? Doesn't he need to write in the normal world?

Damn, I can't wait to replay the DLC, loved it the first time around.

Alan Wake is better than most Resident Evil games, but as a franchise, Resident Evil is better.

Unfortunately this doesn't actually stop the definition remaining factually correct, which is great.

RE, by a long shot. The franchise has timeless classics while Alan Wake is barely remembered outside of forum dwellers.

Alan Wake has a more interesting story but gameplay wise it's becomes super repetitive. RE series has better gunplay RE4 and RE2 remake is leagues better then Alan Wake in that aspect. I prefer gameplay over story so I'm going with RE series as a whole.

good. more mainstream franchise is. more bad.

thus RE more bad. yearly iteration.

RE series barely operate with KB/M. RE4 is infact one of the most overrated game of all time. because of its terrible gameplay.

gameplay in Alan wake is more crisp and control much better.

Not just Alan Wake along, Alan Wake: American Nightmare does play a factor into this thread, I actually do like American Nightmare as a spin-off, so both Alan Wake games are great thriller and hardly a horror game in a sense. Alan Wake does it's own thing, so I don't understand comparing it to RE franchise. I for one do compare RE to Dead Space franchise and I actually like Dead Space more than RE.

Sorry, can't vote here.

Never played Alan Wake, but having your torch stun your enemies seems weird for a horror game. May as well have laser eyes.

I am going to say Resident Evil because Alan Wake barely deserves to be regarded as a series, they had one main release and one XBLA game, but with Control it's now part of a shared universe with lots of potential.

Don't forget about Quantum Break as that game shares the same universe with Alan Wake. But I don't know if Control shares anything with Quantum Break as I don't remember seeing any hints about it when I played Control.

Played AW a while, but after I noticed how bad the gameplay was I stopped. Pretty cool story though.

Played RE4, loved it. Played RE5, liked it. Played RE: Revelations, liked it. I know REmake is awesome, but for some reason haven't played it.

It's not even a contest. When taking all RE games into account, the series actually sucks balls. Still better than AW though.

Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 4, and Resident Evil 7 are all better than Alan Wake.

IMO the First Alan Wake was average to decent, American Nightmare was a bad game, so there's been just as much good as bad in that series of two games. Resident Evil is kind of in the same boat. I enjoyed all Resident Evil games until RE4, which I didn't like at all, and RE5 and 6 were tripe too. I had hopes that the series would rekindle itself after those two bags of shite but they came out with RE7, which wasn't the old RE I loved, but I still enjoyed it a bit, then absolute garbage again with RE8. Re2 Remake was very good though, I really enjoyed that.

So for me its Resident Evil Series, even though they've had as much bad games in the series as they have good they've had more good games than the one average game that was Alan Wake.

Don't reply to me Ghost, im not interested.

Ur probably a console player then. Because quantum break didn't run for shit on PC at its release. Alan wake has a non existing open world which it was advertised with at first then it became a corridoor shit fest of simpleton console gameplay once it moved over towards those console boxes.

Control is probably one of the better looking games because of its lightning and RT implementation. If you play it on console however, well yea it looks like ass as they simple aren't powerful enough.

Quantum Break was badly optimized on PC, but it's not much better on consoles. You have to use reconstruction on PC to get acceptable performance, and that was the case on Xbox too.

Resident Evil's lore, characters and storyline are great but the gameplay has always been off. Whether it's RE 1-3 + Code Veronica's take controls and fixed camera angles, Resident Evil 5 and 6's action-paced gameplay still with outdated clunky controls or RE Biohazard and Village's complete abandonment of anything familiar with the franchise, something has always been off. I think RE4 is the only universally loved RE game by the fanbase.

Already mentioned some in my post, but here's another: Dead Space. How much "horror" those are is debatable I guess, but they're way more fun than AW.

What's so bad about it? Don't really remember, was years ago I played it. I remember finding it boring.

Still better than AW though.

what so bad about Alan wake gameplay? what third person horror game offer better gameplay?

Already mentioned some in my post, but here's another: Dead Space. How much "horror" those are is debatable I guess, but they're way more fun than AW.

What's so bad about it? Don't really remember, was years ago I played it. I remember finding it boring.

Dead space suck. sure its more scary but its nowheare near atmospheric and immersive as Alan wake. beside that Dead space was also dumbed down system shock.

Alan wake feel like if Max payne was horror game. how alan wake narrate story throughout make me remind of max payne.
