Alanah Pearce: Prolific dev didn't like Death Stranding. Uh oh?

Anyway, I'm on Team "I don't know what the hell to make of this", and I like Kojima games for the most part even though he can be the king of hubris at times. But, is Sony giving him too much of a leash on this? Now, this is just one person's opinion, but that's a pretty candid opinion about a game this high-profile. Granted, it's still early, but what if this game doesn't actually gel?

As for Kojima trailers being weird that just comes with the territory. His trailers just like his games aren't for everyone. I'm willing to bet that the actual gameplay of Death Stranding is completely different from what's being shown in the trailers. Kojima just likes to mess with everyone in his trailers and this trolling he's doing right now is very obvious.

Death Stranding is far from coming out and still a work in progress. We got a long ways to go. This game is obviously going to be weird, playing a game designed to be weird and calling it weird as a complaint seems, dumb and the more weird a game is the more divisive it's going to be, it was obvious from the very first trailer that this wasn't going to be everyone's thing

Don't get me wrong, while I have faith the game will be good, there's never any guarantee a game will be good but a developer saying they didn't really like something without any context means absolutely nothing.

That's the thing with high-brow art, the more baffling it is the more afraid of critics to shit on it in fear it might make it show that the art is above them for not understanding its brilliance.

They didn't show enough to worry anyone imo. It looked like it was super early in development.

That said, I don't think Sony is worried at all. Game could be completely mediocre and score 6-7 and still sell millions because Kojima made it. That all that matters really.

Based on the gameplay from Sony E3; I think this looks mediocre at best, ignore the story for now, the gameplay shown wasn’t good and certainly not in the same league as TLOU 2 reveal. I think Kojima has went downhill with MGS 5, it’s not a 10/10 game and the episodes which ended with credits being run like a movie, seriously? Loved the other MGS games, this one just felt 7/10 to me.

Death Stranding next reveal has to really step it up for me.

Yong Yea also made a video about what she said about a dev not liking Death Stranding. To be honest I don't fully understand what is going on this game.

Even if it turns out sh*t, it'll still rate well because it's Kojima and a PS exclusive.

Most reviewers will be too scared to give it a low score because Sony fannies will chuck a tantrum.

It's a kojima game. The man has so much hype that his name alone would make any shitty game suddenly a 10 out of 10. (Not saying his games are shitty but you know what I mean)

I think Kojima was kept on a pretty tight leash during his tenure at Konami.

Maybe that leash is loosened now or totally absent. Maybe we will find out why he is a failed movie director and had to fall back on video games.

To be completely fair, she actually does sound pretty well-spoken and invested in the topics. People might not agree with her, but she sounds like the genuine thing. Unlike, idunno, Olivia Munn who just did it to get her foot in the door and found her target demographic.

Who knows indeed. Maybe this'll be the game where there may be such a thing as too much Kojima. I want the game to go well, but I also want a cohesive experience, and not just existential bizzarity.

I also feel this Alanah talk in the thread is turning into a "shoot the messenger" thing and it's wholly unnecessary. Doesn't sound like everyone is going to be down for the experience... could be polarizing in the end.

Yeah, it's not her opinion, either. If anything, I'd argue it's good reporting because she (and the others) go to these events, talk to developers, don't name their sources (mostly), and then bring that information back and tell us.

Kojima hasn't always impressed me. I love MGS but Zone of Enders wasn't for me, so no, he doesn't get a pass. The gameplay shown at E3 was shyte and we all know it. Anyone else "reveals" gameplay that is just walking, climbing, falling in a creak while hauling packages; sneaking with a light over your body (which would be a dead giveaway anyway) it would be shit all over. This long and this is what is shown? LMAO

The thing to remember is that Sony have seen a lot more of the game then we or anyone external to the dev team have.
