Press Release
EA and Spicy Horse Games Send Gamers Down the Rabbit Hole in Alice: Madness Returns

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Gaming visionary American McGee returns to Wonderland as Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) and Spicy Horse Games announce Alice: Madness Returns™, the dark and deranged sequel to the year 2000 PC hit, American McGee's Alice™. Designed with the same dark styIe of the original, but now featuring entirely new visuals, story and game design, Alice: Madness Returns is a fun and addictive action adventure set to release on PC, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system. The game follows Alice on a journey through a wildly corrupted and shattered Wonderland to uncover the truth behind her haunted past and tortured psyche. In this journey, players will romp through highly-detailed elaborate worlds, encounter a cast of off-beat characters and engage in epic battles with deadly weapons and sinister villains.

"We can't wait to share our vision with Alice in Wonderland fans and gamers around the world."

"Alice is a cIassic fiction, infinitely rich with memorable characters, places and experiences. Our approach to Alice: Madness Returns takes this colorful world and reinvents it with psychotic personalities and pervasive insanity," said American McGee, Spicy Horse Games Co-Founder and Senior Creative Director. "We can't wait to share our vision with Alice in Wonderland fans and gamers around the world."

Alice: Madness Returns takes place 10 years after the conclusion of the original game, with Alice struggling to recover from the emotional trauma of losing her entire family in a fatal fire. After spending a decade institutionalized in an insane asylum, she is finally released to the care of a psychiatrist who just may be able to help her conquer the nightmarish hallucinations that still haunt her. Alice embarks on a mission to root out the true cause of her family's mysterious death, jumping from a gloomy and stark London to a rich and provocative Wonderland.

"In 2000, we launched a cult hit on the PC with American McGee's Alice. Ten years later, I'm pleased to announce American is back on board leading the top-rate talent at Spicy Horse Games to create this sequel," said David DeMartini, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EA Partners. "The Alice in Wonderland fiction continues to be a fan favorite all over the world. We can't wait for them to experience the next chapter with Alice: Madness Returns."

Alice: Madness Returns will be available in 2011 for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The original one was a masterpeice. It blew my mind. Severely unappreciated game. If the sequel any where near the quality of the 1st one, then awesome. :)

Ehhh I guess the game looks alright, from my observation is just looks like a game that a Lady Gaga fan would enjoy. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I never really understood what this was.

Is this based on an actual book that depicts Alice in Wonderland in some sort of corrupt, and chaotic alternative universe? Or is "American McGee's" just a title they slap on these games? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I do remember skipping over the first title completely though, but only because I was as confused then as I still am now.

Didn't get to play much of the original, but I will definitely be checking this one out!

Now they just need to get that freaking movie adaptation made...

The first one. It's basically Alice coming back to Wonderland to find it all messed up and twisted. There's a lot more to it but the story elements are pretty important.

American McGee is just some developer who puts his name in front of games like Sid Meier does.

After Bad Day LA and whatever that episodic fairy tale game was, I wonder if American McGee has gone the way of fellow iD software alumnus John Romero in having lost the ability to design good games.

Let's just say that, for EA's sake, I hope they're not giving him too much money.

Same here. It looks good, although I'm not quite sure if I dig the "twisted"-Alice in Wonderland theme with skeletons. I actually very much liked Tim Burton's theme in his latest movie.

After reading the wiki, what I gather is it takes place AFTER the second book (making this an entirely original story). Alice goes insane after a fire burns down her house and kills her family. While lying Catatonic in the mental hospital after a suicide attempt she gets another visit from the white rabbit who brings her back to a now insane version of Wonderland.

If she can save Wonderland she can regain her sanity.

Yes that was my hope as well. At least Burton put out his own great Alice movie.

Ufortunately though they WERE going to make the movie but it ended up falling through. Maybe if this new game does well the movie might get revived.

Sounds pretty cool. I just finished reading Lewis Caroll's original Alice in Wonderland not more than a day ago. I donno about this second book though.

I'm sure the first American McGee's Alice game is impossible to track down in stores now, so...umm.....I might have to do something about that as this new one (judging by the screenshots posted) looks pretty cool. I like the sty|e and theme, and McGee has some good games under his belt, so I imagine it'll be a good game.

The wiki on the game says it goes for a good $100 as it is seen as a bit of a collectors item so have some money set aside for that...

As for the 2nd book, I do believe that is what Tim Burton's movie was actually based on. I never sat down to read the books but I loved that movie.

And yeah, this game looks purty and I think imma be getting it for my 360 when it comes out. I really love the whole idea of the twisted Wonderland and cannot wait to see what they can do with this gens technology.

Tim Burton put out his own great Alice movie? Did he direct a second one that I don't know about that happens to be great? :P Anyway, looks interesting.....

This makes me so MAD! The original game was on Wal-Mart shelves just a couple of years ago all the time for $10, should have grabbed it before it became such a collector's item... :(
