I got Alien Isolation about a month ago and just completed it - If my jaw was not on the floor because of how stunning it looks and sounds, then I was absolutely cringing in terror as I hid from the very smart and cunning Alien ever-present throughout the game (except for the first few hours or so). There was never a dull moment and I can't say enough about this game. Here are a few screenshots to show just how truly amazing this games looks because it may well have the best graphics I've ever seen. Granted this is on PC in 1080p with Ultra settings, but still...These are in-game screenshots that I took.

Is that some next-gen shit or what?

Anyway, what I'm getting as is I am certainly not the only person who has enjoyed the game.

Metacritic - 81 (84% User Reviews) - With IGN's score of 5.9 (although IGN Italy gave it an 8.0) and Gamespot's score of 6.0 severely crippling the overall score.

PC Gamer - 2014 Game of the Year and a score of 93%

Steam (where it's currently on sale for $24.99) - 94% positive reviews out of 5,455 user reviews.

On IGN's review of the game, the comments section is filled with nothing but people saying how shocked they are that this game could have possibly gotten the score that it did, with users having nothing but positive things to say about the game. The comments are essentially just bashing the reviewer of the game.

The Steam user reviews are also overwhelmingly positive with users there also asking how these major review sites could have possibly given this such a poor score.

So in conclusion, I think that I've completely given up trusting review scores from IGN and Gamespot; this is just another prime example. When they give every Call of Duty a 9 or above every single year but give a truly unique and exceptional game like this such a low score, it makes me question their credibility. After all, IGN and Gamespot's score is based off of ONE PERSON'SOPINION. I find it hard to believe that such large and well-known sites can have the opinion of one person reflect the opinion of the entire site. Most people see that IGN gave the game a 5.9 and quickly pass it off, thinking that it must be shit. But that's merely what one person (who clearly didn't understand what the hell he was playing) thinks and it can unfortunately impact the decision of thousands on whether or not they will play it. If 94% of the users on Steam who played it liked it and 84% of the people on Metacritic liked it, that should be what we're focusing on.

GO PLAY THIS GAME NOW!!!

What all of you aren't understanding is that most people do give a shit. I used to be the same way. IGN was where I went for reviews and if they gave it a score of less than an 8 I probably wasn't going to play it.

It wasn't a perfect game but still it was one of my favorite games of 2014, and it was a lot better than reviews lead me to believe it was going to be.

How about you just stop giving a **** what scores random people assign to games? Review scores are arbitrary and how "good" games are is entirely subjective, the faster you learn that the more fun you'll have with this hobby. Stop worrying so much about what other people are doing or thinking and just play your games.

Did you even read the reviews to find out what the reviewers issues with the game were, or did you just see the score and freak out over someone not liking a game you like?

Unfortunately a large amount of the gaming population does give a **** about review scores. That's all you see on these boards especially; if a game gets below an 8.0 from their website of choice, many of the users on here consider it a "flop." I don't agree with this way of thinking but a lot of people do think this way. With Gamespot and IGN being the two biggest and most respected (for the most part) websites, frequently I'm going to base a decision on whether or not I'm going to buy a game on what kind of reviews the game gets. If a game gets a 2.0 from one of these sites, more than likely I'm not gonna say "**** it" and go drop $60 on it. I saw the review for Alien: Isolation on IGN and Gamespot first before I read any other reviews and thought, "wow, I guess it wasn't all it's hyped up to be." Luckily I looked into things more and read actual user reviews and ended up loving the game, which I encourage more to do.

@lostrib Suck a dick and stop telling me to "blog it." I'm telling people to stop basing their decisions to play a game based on review scores, because most people here do. I'm not necessarily talking about Alien: Isolation in particular, this just happens to be a recent experience I've had. EVERY major game that is released has a thread on this website about "what score you think the game will get" or everyone's shock that Killzone: Shadow Fall didn't get the score they wanted. If you don't like what I'm posting about then stop replying. I know you want to get your post count up to 40,000 before Christmas - ALMOST THERE BUDDY, but how about you shut the **** up unless you have something relevant to say.

Isolation is legit, the 2nd half could and should have been way better as they completely ruin the pacing, but the actual cat and mouse game with the Alien is genuinely brilliant.

The first half of the game is fine, but it really should end after you get rid of the first Alien. It dragged on needlessly after that point, and for that, I have to deduct some points just like I did for Bravely Default, which suffers the exact same problem.

In short: it's a good game, that could have easily been excellent. I finished it on Normal, if that's at all relevant.

It is just an extremely polarising game, and that is exactly how it should be,the people that love it really love it and for all the right reasons.

And the people that hate it really hate it, there does not seem to be many "Meh" middleground opinions about it.

They had to intersperse the structure. Although i agree alien-less sections were tad weaker, you couldnt predict when it would come back. And last 3 levels were as nervewrecking as ever, esp. the ending sequence.

Exactly. Just read the comments section - every single person strongly disagrees. And as I said before, PC Gamer gave it Game of the Year - clearly it's not that bad.

2014 was a pretty rough year for gaming I thought, but there were a few I've had some fun with. My favorites of 2014 besides AI would probably be Infamous: Second Son, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Titanfall (Xbox One version - I got it on PC first and the community, or lack there of, completely ruined the game), Shadow of Mordor, and Forza Horizon 2. Quite an array of different genres, but I like pretty much any type of game.

Watch Dogs was a complete letdown for me and I'm still trying to decide on Ubisofts two other big games, Assassin's Creed and Far Cry 4. I hear nothing but how buggy each game is but I've loved every Far Cry game and the setting of this Assassin's Creed interests me (wasn't too into Black Flags stress on naval battles and sailing everywhere). I'm waiting to see if they fix the games on PC before picking them up unless I can find them for cheap on the Steam sale. I'll also get Dragon Age eventually.

This and Dragon Age were the best games I played all year, and I played most of them. I wish the ability to sneak around androids was more developed, but o home run on every other aspect.

PC Gamer gave it game of the year. I think it's a fair assesment. A lot of people don't like it because it plays like a hardcore stealth game and doesn't hold your hand. But that shouldn't matter.

@Pray_to_me: Well the version I'm playing couldn't be achieved on any console, whether it be 360 or PS4. See it in motion in 1080p, 60fps, and maxed out settings then you'd be hard-pressed to find a console game that looks better. Please name five console games that look better, I'd love to know because I've pretty much played every worthwhile next-gen title out there and haven't seen anything that looks this good.

Or you could just stop taking the opinion of one person as the word of God... that works too.

Getting enough people around to review every major game is a challenge as it is, let alone cutting the workforce effectively in half if you have at least two people reviewing each game. If you do that the reviewers have to make compromises elsewhere (like how much of a game they play). In the end you'll end up with a system that is basically the same as Famitsu's broken one.

Hmm I am considering buying it for $25... Still on the fence. It looks cool and I am a bit of an Alien (1,2,4) fan. Still have to finish Persona 4 and DA:I tho.

Uh for a game like this $25 it is a steal !

It was fun until you realized the alien was on a rubber band. The AI was quite laughable and I think you have a problem when the synthetics are scarier than the alien.

To me it was just really average but it was great in the moments it really managed to convey the Alien film.
