...BC is MEANINGLESS and 2 USB ports are "JUST FINE!".

Really DOES go to show that the Cow's are herded blindly by Farmer Sony, and don't really care for quality (a year with 2 decent games says it ALL, really...).

If the PS3 was the same product with a different name and released by a different company, the Cow's would trash it ruthlessly and all of a sudden Blu-Ray would be obselete.

Cows, collectively, are possibly the worst group of fanboys I have ever encountered, so in love with a corporation (who doesn't give two ****s about them) they would do/say anything in it's defence. Saddening.

The rampant lunacy is even worse than the Genesis/SNES days.

why do you think two USB ports are worthless? Why do you need more? My Elite 360 only has two USB ports.

What is BC important? The way I see it, very few people actually use it. Two kinds of consumers are buying the ps3, people who have never had a console before and people who owned the PS/PS2 and want the newest one.

If the PS3 is your first console, you're not going to care about PS2 games, because if you did, you would've bought the PS2 at some point in its lifetime already. And people that bought the PS3 because they had a PS/PS2 can already play those games on the original systems.

BC only affects hardcore gamers who want to play old games. And if this is important to them, they've either already bought a PS3 with the EE inside it or they will buy a PS/PS2 console on the internet or from a store like EB.

BC sounds awesome in theory, but PS games are close to impossible to find in stores, especially since EB/GS stopped carrying them. And most stores have drastically diminished their stock of PS2 games as well.

You can easily get most games on the internet, but this can get pricey. And if you are this into games, you probably already own the past consoles, either when they came out or you found a used one later and got it for cheap.

BC is not too important because after all, who DOESN'T own a PS2 already? The PS2 has been out for 7 years and is incredibly cheap. If you did not have a PS2 after 7 years, you probably don't care about BC on the PS3 either.

For $699 (AFTER price drop) here ($630 USD) you get a PS3 and one SixAxis, whereas the Premium 360 gives you two control pads and two games ($470 USD). There is also an expansive library of fantastic software that justifies the purchase.

There is no reason to purchase a PS3 at this point in time when there are about 3 games on the thing worth playing.

Yes, you have choices with the 360 because none of the things you have to choose are essential to the system, like Blu-Ray, for example.

ok well if you dont want an hd player built in yet still want hd gaming by all means get a 360, i still dont get the point, people who bought a ps3(like me) wanted everything in 1 and i think i paid a fair price for it(got it at launch $599) considering everything it has, most of the tech isnt needed but its nice to have all that in one package. I didnt blindly follow Sony, who would? spending that much on a console actually requires you to do research as to what you're getting yourself into because its more of an investment rather than a purchase. Whoever can honestly say they followed sony's PR when purchasing a PS3 has got issues.

3/4 of PlayStation's fanbase in a nutshell.

PS3 for me would be like buying an Aston Martin (without the status, obviously) in the middle of a large city and not being able to utlisise it's speed. It's a lost purchse. I know that an extremely loose metaphor, but I don't see the point in paying for technology that you can't put into good use... well, with the PS3 you CAN - but Heavenly Sword and Warhawk aren't worth it.

I know the whole "Waiting" tag is passe and used to death, but it pretty much sums up the PS3 until late 2008.

No the PS3 is not an investment. An investment would be something like purchasing a house, stocks or bonds orthings with some sort of appreciation over time. The PS3 will NOT go up in value so I wouldn't consider that an investment.

PS3 40GB is $699.00 here... 60GB (our only other model) is $1000.00, both come stand alone, without games, without remote, one control, etc...

I can afford it but why should I have to pay that price for something that's going to sit on a shelf ? Just another thing to dust as far as I'm concerned.

Then wouldn't that defeat the purpose of a price drop? Lots of people care about BC as well as the price. Sony's desperation is showing and sooner or later the casuals will see this.

[QUOTE="Supernova_86"]BC is not too important because after all, who DOESN'T own a PS2 already? The PS2 has been out for 7 years and is incredibly cheap. If you did not have a PS2 after 7 years, you probably don't care about BC on the PS3 either.BambooBanger

I don't have a PS2 and there are some games I'd love to play on it without having to buy a PS2 and PS3

You can get the 80gb PS3 then, since that has PS2 compatibility and even upscales the games. Only the 40gb lacks the BC. If you are more interested in PS2 and don't really care about PS3, then get a PS2 by itself because its heaps cheaper.

The 60gb is also BC with PS2 games. I am from Australia, and I will get a PS3 once FF13 comes out on it. I will get the most expensive PS3 edition, which may hopefully be an 80gb if its released here.

LoL, where do you live??

if you want a $399 or a $499 PS3 you know there's always the net.. (amazon, ebay, newegg, etc..)

i got a PS3 and i dont even play as much PS2 games since some of 'em are taking up most of my time.

Like PH said, Sony wants to focus on consumers buying more PS3 games hence no BC.

Yep, I agree with you. I will probably pick up a PS3 (60GB) when there is something worth playing on it - in Sony's case it's Final Fantasy.

What games ? The mythical games that live in the year 2008 ? Right...

I live in Australia.

[QUOTE="NavigatorsGhost"]

why do you think two USB ports are worthless?

And if you are this into games, you probably already own the past consoles, either when they came out or you found a used one later and got it for cheap.

umm maybe because there's no really good games on the ps3.

There aren't, what are these then:

Oblivion

Resistance

R6V

HG Sigma

DiRT

Warhawk

The Darkness

GRAW 2

CoD 3

VF 5

Heavenly Sword

Motorstorm

All games that scored at least an 8, except for Motorstorm. 12 games worth playing for a significant amount of time. Oh great, most aren't exclusives. Thats great it doesn't mean anything, if you own the system you can play those games. Casuals don't care which system has better multiplats. And believe it or not, people sometimes buy the PS3 because it has Bluray capabilities included. And free online. And because the PS3 has some timeless franchises that the 360 does not.

I believe he/she lives in Australia, same country as me.

I agree that not too many people will play PS2 games on PS3. However the PS3 games library is still slim, so after a bit of time, the PS2 will look less significant.
