Yes, I remember the PS2. My old PS2 didn't play black or blue discs.
Â
Does this somehow change the Xbox 360's faulty hardware?Â
i've never had any problem with any system and i've gotten them all with in 1 month of release, if not on release, people just suck at taking care of there stuff.jliebel
Sorry man but things do break, including the 360 and the PS2... just some people like to forget that one happened.Â
And don't forget about the PS1, mine still won't run unless you put it upside down. - LOLLOL kentpaul07
I never mistreated my systems, but for some reason my PS1 decided to not latch the cover any more after a few years, so I had to do something similar, put a heavy book on the top of the disc dive.Â
The PS2 had some faulty units released this is true, and working at eb in high school I saw a great deal of faulty machines. However the error never affected me as to this day I still have a bulky release night PS2 that still plays DVD's, and all my PS2 games. I have never had a problem with any of my videogame systems save my original nintendo.... but even that could be fixed by blowing in the cartridges or cleaning with steril solution. Maybe I'm the luckiest person alive... maybe I'm just too anal to allow any dust to clog my intakes/exhausts... or maybe just maybe as I used to say at eb the problem with these systems is user error (kinda like the PS2 that got returned due to 'manufacturer error', but I found 30 dead roaches inside... sometimes ppl just get results based on how well they treat the machine)
Personally I think all the manufacturer errors on 360's, PS2's are just a blip in the grand scheme of things.

Mine latches, but apparently the sensor or whatever Sony uses to tell that the cover is closed is broken, so you have to keep it forced down all the way. Still it definitely looks unique.[QUOTE="jliebel"]i've never had any problem with any system and i've gotten them all with in 1 month of release, if not on release, people just suck at taking care of there stuff.SemiMaster

Clearly. I treated my PS2 and 360 both with the utmost respect. In fact my original PS2 ate my Tekken Tag Tournament disc in the middle of a heated battle with my dorm mates my freshman year. And it was sitting out in the open laying on its side with the disc drive up. My 360 sits on its base with a cooler out in the open just to be sure. People who follow the directions don't ever break things unless the machine is truly defective.

Agreed but that was only with Slim ps2's with Disc-Read error's but dude this is the next-gen race!! I mean this one of the biggest race's you cant afford to screw this one up with faulty hardware.
I take great care of my systems, and my PS2 didn't break for 4 years, but my 360 whent down within the first 3 months. Sorry people but you can't live in denial with this one, Xbox 360 has a very high chance of breaking down. Take a loot in the 360 forum and outside these forums on the web and you will see that.marvelfan

yea lets not forget the dumb fanboys who make false accusations and have photoshop ring of death pics. more like ms paint shop.
Â
i never had problems with my ps1. it still runs perfectly to this day and i had it for 10 years now. i ended up going through 4 ps2's over the years and i took really good care of it. i called in sony to get them fixed, but the operators were jerks about it. i heard some of the disc errors that causes the lens to brake were caused by certain disc. so these days i try to be careful with it when using my 360 & ps3. so paranoid i dont watch movies with them and so on.

LOL....what about the Nintendo .....On top of having to blow the games....I had put an extra game on top of the one I wanted to play inside the system to keep the game from poping up......so it would play...........but boy when it did work.....all that trouble was worth it.......
I never had trouble with my PS2 though.....and my psone messed up for some reason I forgot (ok I broke it  )so I bought an extra one at Target and switched the insides and returned it to get my money back...... this one still works to this day.....10 years....

so basicly what everyone is saying is ps2 and 360 sux. They both break. Luckily, I do not own either console. So that leaves the wii and ps3 as a possible buy in the near future. Thanks.
oh yea, i remember i had the blue disc issue.
Luckily, the only blue disc i ever owned was The Sims, lol.
Atleast sony replaced our PS2's, what about microsoft? Plus most of the faultyness wasn't so bad. xbox360s explode and start fires to houses.retrib
Â
sony got fine and there lawsuit in 04 or 05 i dont remember and they were ordered to repair the defective ps2s. ill bookmark it so i can post the link when i re-find the link.Â
Mine had the same problem, also it played DVDs with static noises.Yes, I remember the PS2. My old PS2 didn't play black or blue discs.

If you wanted to know how to play them you could have looked it up on the internet. You use a piece of construction tape about 2-3 inches long. Its the weight of the disk. Thats whay it didnt read.

No, it's called not learning from the mistakes that a 7 year-old system made.Â
That's true, not sure what Sony was thinking when they made the PS2, but mine broke down quite often. Luckily, I never had to replace it since leaving it "to rest" would make it better the next day. That and the A/V cables snapped in half, not sure how that happened, but it did. Other than that, I personally haven't ran into many hardware problems though.
Of course, I've ran into two people out of the 6 people I know with 360's that have hardware problems but that's cuz one of them left his on for 2 days straight. :P

there is a diiference between a fired gpu and a burntout laser, but it was my ps2 dying that put me off console games, $180nzd for a ps2 dvd drive in 04 when a dvd writter could be had for $100nzd

I remember that. Before I bought my PS1 (still works great), a friend of mine brought his over to my house to show me MGS, and he flipped the whole console upside-down. I was like WTF. He just went on like it was normal.[QUOTE="purplemidgets"]Yes, I remember the PS2. My old PS2 didn't play black or blue discs.

Not at all, but it does make cows who like to go on tirades about the 360's unreliability seem rather hypocritical.Â
to me as a pc gamer, the 360's hardware is very week. why do most pc componets come with 3 year standard warrenty while console make you pay to get 3 years?

He just went on like it was normal. Once again, no one is trying to justify the faulty MS hardware. The argument is brought up to illistrate the hypocrisy displayed by the bovines that do nothing but flood this forum with their stories and fake Youtube vids saying its wrong for MS and then forget their beloved company reveled at pushing faulty hardware.
I never had a single problem with my PS2 (had it since launch) but I did hear there were some problems, but I find myself wondering why with all this bashing the PS2 trying to justify the 360 breaking down.... why hasn't anyone brought up the xbox catching fire. I had a second job at a department store at the time and handled the return of every xbox we sold for about 6 months and each one had caught FIRE.

XBOX not 360, was the one I was talking about, and I really haven't had any trouble with my PS2 in fact I gave it to my 6 year old nephew about 2 months ago
