Bethesda knowingly ships a broken game that it has no intention of fixing, tries to hide it by only giving reviewers the 360 and PC versions of the game to review, and then the press rewards Bethesda by lavishing awards on Skyrim. And GameSpot once again leads the pack in anti-consumer coperate whoring by not only giving Skyrim GotY, but not even pulling the 9.0 score it gave the PS3 version of Skyrim. Pretty disgusting. I feel like I need to shower in penicillin everytime I come to this site.

The PS3 reviewers got the PS3 version dude, and other then PToM's 7, they all gave it some rave reviews too.

Its broken, but the issue isn't exactly a 100%, unfixable certainty that affects everyone start to finish. Its a random problem lots of people don't even experience once, that has a fix of its own.

Of course not that I care, my only issue was crashing to the desktop on the PC version and a little RAM mod fixed that right up for me :)

I have to admit, I would have liked to have seen Bethesda get raked over the coals for this one. They just can't pretend Skyrim was production-ready on any platform.

The PS3 version plays fine for me.

I would've gone with the 360 version, but I have to reflow the GPU on my 360 every 5 days or so just to get it working.

What do you expect? Just like how Taco Bell/McDonalds serve us bad food for our bodies we buy it up and they aren't required to change their product. People bought and praised the game, even if its good it still is sad to see a whole community not hold them accountable for their errors, especially since its far from the first time its happened with them.

Yikes, I'd just get another one. When my PS3 bricked I had to do it every month or so at best and I just decided to get a new cheap one on black friday, and time is money you know.

You tell me how you're going to build a game as large as skyrim, have all the models, all the textures, every building and rock in place, and have bug testing remove all the bugs, even with 10 years that would be hard to do... I hate how everyone on the internet acts as if they're this god of programming when really, they don't know a single thing about it. Some bugs are hard to find. its true. How do you know if there is a mammoth floating in the air ? Well.. you don't until you see if fall out of the sky.

By next year, the PC modding community will distribute an unofficial patch that fixes 99% of the game's bugs, just like they have for every other Elder Scrolls game.

You're ridiculous. They knew the game is fundamentally broken yet they still shipped it. We're not talking about an array of minor bugs. The game is fundamentally broken. Why are you apologizing for them?

I had it since '06, and the 3 year free replacement warranty expired in December '09.

Instead of buying another 360, I just bought a PS3 instead. I just felt like trying something new.

I might just buy a reballed replacement 360 on ebay or something though. I see them floating around for about $80 for the console only.

I don't see why they should cater for the PS3 users when most of their sales is coming from xbox/PC. If ps3 users wanted more attention more of them should have bought the game to make it worthwhile for the developer.

LOL. I write software for a living. And while Skyrim is a lot more complex than the data analysis software I work on, they also have 20x as many people working on it.

Why you should cater to someone whose money you take? If you don't care about a platform don't release on it. It seems to me they care about the money they get from that platform, but they don't care to provide a working product for it ...

Yeah I mean, lets be honest. Skyrim is big, it has a big budget, it has a big team, and its got lots of experience going into it. There is no reason a big side quest shouldn't start just because I decided to have a certain companion, and no reason why dragons should randomly not give souls and fly backwards and the game can use up all the RAM in a system that Bethesda knows they were working with.

There are lots of ambitious games. Games like GTA IV with a $100 million budget, Just Cause 2 with a terribly buggy former game, not being a super polished and pretty (if repetitive and unbalanced) huge open world game.

Bethesda should have been able to fix these things, its not like they were rushed on a one year schedule, they had plenty of time and money to get this stuff looked at before release, on ALL platforms.

Are you for real? Not defrauding consumers is catering to them? If Beth either couldn't get Skyrim to work adequately on the PS3, or it didn't have the will to do so, fine, don't ship the PS3 version. It's that simple. Instead they knew it was fundamentally broken, they weren't going to fix it, yet they shipped it anyway. That's simple fraud.

And you're apologizing for it in a really slimey way by characterizing the act of not defrauding consumers as catering to them, as if not not wanting to be defrauded is a silly whim. You're ridiculous.

Take off your dumb fanboy googles. I don't own a PS3 and Fallout 3 was my GotY back in 09. This has nothing to do about teens fighting over which console is best because their parents won't buy them all the systems. This is about a company defrauding consumers, and the press sweeping it under the rug so they don't risk losing access.

Both Beth and GameSpot and playing gamers for idiots, and you're so caught up in the dumb console war that you can't see what's right in front of your face.

I'm honestly surprised that Skyrim won GotY with all of the issues surrounding it. I was expecting Arkham City to win even though I hate the Arkham games. At least they're polished and work.

The responses in this thread show exactly why Beth and GS can get away with crap like this.

No Beth did not fix the PS3 version. It's still fundamentally broken. They fixed some minor bugs in the course of fixing minor bugs across all three platforms, but they didn't address the memory issue that's caused the PS3 version to be fundamentally broken.

I wouldn't bash them if they had to downgrade the graphics on the PS3 to get the game working. Anybody who releases a broken game deserves to get bashed, though.

I don't give a flying fuuck about the console war, and certainly not 6 years on. How the hell have they defrauded you? Have they abandoned the project? Are they refusing to do anymore patches? Heck, if you feel that strongly about it go and return your copy and claim your consumer rights. I've played a fair bit on 360 and encountered no issues, and even if I did encounter a few bugs it wouldn't detract from my enjoyment of it. PS3 has bigger issues, Bethesda are addressing them. Grow up.

Well TC it this happens on all platforms from time to time, its just a common error in the industry, If a game was supposed to work across all platforms just as well, then GTA4 surely shouldnt have gotten more then an 8 since the PC version was a similar trainwreck. I think the 360 version of FF13 were also pretty abysmal? it happens on all platforms. And the devs usually are able to make improvements.

I feel I should point out that the 360 version of FFXIII was fine. I think the PS3 had slightly better textures if I remember correctly. I think that was due to disk size or something.

the base question in all this, against the "bethesda faithful" is: "Do you HONESTLY believe they didn't know about the swarm of bugs in this game?" or "Knowing the problems they have had in the past with the game engine, was it smart to spackle some paint on the same engine and try again?" Seriously, I LOVE skyrim, but it's flawed as hell. Any other games with 1/100 of these bugs would have been reviewed so poorly. Like GTA IV, a game i experienced so many bugs in I stopped playing it altogether, 10/10 score it got here at GS. Classy/Classic. Simple fact is: Bethesda knew how buggy the game was, but still went along with the release to make the "holiday '11" season. So no, its not okay. Just because you like the game doesnt mean its okay for devs to ship knowingly broken ****. Wake up fanboys.

PS: all the people in here saying: "it would take 10 years to get rid of the bugs in a game this big". is that why less than 2 WEEEEKS after release, they had already made a patch to few (some) issues??? It takes no time for them with as big of a department as they do. and 10 million + copies sold tells me they have the money too. so FIX IT bethy

the base question in all this, against the "bethesda faithful" is: "Do you HONESTLY believe they didn't know about the swarm of bugs in this game?" or "Knowing the problems they have had in the past with the game engine, was it smart to spackle some paint on the same engine and try again?" Seriously, I LOVE skyrim, but it's flawed as hell. Wake up fanboys.dRuGGeRnaUt

My answer to your question is: My copy, so far (100+ hours) has been perfectly fine except for the magic resistance bug that has been patched. GTA 4 also played fine when I owned it for that matter. Wake up, sook.

Twin-Blade

I feel I should point out that the 360 version of FFXIII was fine. I think the PS3 had slightly better textures if I remember correctly. I think that was due to disk size or something.

Not entirely. It was due to the fact that the PS3 version was native 720p, while the 360 version was 540p.

I haven't tried FFXIII on the PS3. Does it look a lot better? I remember some areas looking really nice on the 360. I might have to buy it again for the PS3.

[QUOTE="Ravensmash"]Yawn - game was good - there was a reason why it didn't get awarded GOTY on PS3.Ravensmash

Grow up.

How have they defrauded consumers? You're still playing dumb? They knowingly released a game that's fundamentally broken, and it either can't be fixed or it would require a major effort to fix it, and Beth has yet to even address the problem. And you can't return a new game once you open it. Stop being willfully dumb because you like the game.

The award doesn't mean the PS3 version is GotY. It doesn't bring down the PC or 360 version.

Twin-Blade

The awards mean it's okay to defraud consumers. Hell we'll even keep that 9 up for the PS3 version. You're still giving us a big exclusive on your next game, right?

Have you ever thought that maybe GS is telling us what the best game of the year was, rather than using the opportunity to punish or reward devs for their business ethics? Seriously, Skyrim simply is the best game of the year. Get over it.

It's slightly more crisp, has better AA (it's very noticable in the characters' hair) and the FMV cutscenes are native 1080p.That's about it.

There are still flat ground textures intact and pretty much everything else in that was in the 360 version. Well, except for the slight frame rate drops in the Archylte Steppe that was present in the 360 version.

Believe it or not, I actually owned both versions at one point. :P

The PS3 version plays fine for me.

I would've gone with the 360 version, but I have to reflow the GPU on my 360 every 5 days or so just to get it working.

imaginary 360s dont have to be reflowed sorry. *your scenario is logically impossible your system would break down long before the 2nd or even 3rd reflow and you wouldn't be able to get it back running...maybe just admit you dont own one*
