ive already seen some threads about windows 7 and about Directx 11, now some of the posts bashing seems legitimate, but some other post not so much

so i think we can act adult here and find out what directx 11 is before we bash it.

"Microsoft unveiled Direct3D 11 at the Gamefest 08 event in Seattle, with the major scheduled features including GPGPU support (DirectCompute), tessellation support, and improved multi-threading support to assist video game developers in developing games that better utilize multi-core processors"(this is from wiki but rest assured this is true)

now if people cant understand that heres this:

  • Tessellation – Tessellation is implemented on the GPU to calculate a smoother curved surface resulting in more graphically detailed images, including more lifelike characters in the gaming worlds that you explore.

  • Multi-Threading – The ability to scale across multi-core CPUs will enable developers to take greater advantage of the power within multi-core CPUs. This results in faster framerates for games, while still supporting the increased visual detailing.

  • DirectCompute – Developers can utilize the power of discrete graphics cards to accelerate both gaming and non-gaming applications. This improves graphics, while also enabling players to accelerate everyday tasks, like video editing, on their Windows 7 PC.

(now this information is taken from the Microsoft web page to further explain its features)and if you still dont know what these are and for a list of more specific features go look it up:)

so what i would say if i were to put it in a brief summary is that Dx 11 is a way for developers to make better games with less hardware requirements(disregarding the fact that you need a Directx 11 card)games will look and play so much better and the best thing is that we dont have to keep upgrading,(wich is another rumor no pc gamer has to update to often that just something some console fanboy made up)

IMO i think this is the best jump in technology we have had in some time(directx 10 was crap) but i think developers could really utilize this very well unfortunately consoles are not capable of it and thus we will not see to much of it until the next generation of consoles(maybe)

but this is a brief explanation of it to learn more go look it up:P

if i made any mistakes be sure to comment so that i might fix them

I get the free 7 pro upgrade, but my laptop has a 4850 (and a q9000 quad). So looks like it won't affect me.

lmao....microsoft acting like tesselation is something new.... tesselation just means taking every little square that makes up your surface and splitting it into 4 new smaller ones.... devs have been doing it since ps1, it's the basis of all 3d models.
