Its part of being in the business-To make money. Esp. if the fps's are good, then you better believe developers are going to make more. And esp if they are good and sales are great, then there will always be more coming out.
I dont think your logic is really logical.
I own a wii and 360 and am sick of the FPS genre. I've played so many on my 360 that I'm not longer exicted about games like The Darkness, Metroid Prime 3, even halo 3 has me barely excited. I wish developers would focus on other genre's and not flood the market because something is selling.Nin360
I have a quick answer for your problem, don't buy them.

I'm not. 1PS arent even the majority of games out there. it's called opening your eyes and looking
Geez
I'm looking at the slate of games coming out in the 4th qtr and it's pretty amazing. FPS after FPS game.....not only for the X360 but also for the PS3 as they are mostly multiplat.
Not sure why the developers are suddenly into making FPS games but meh....they wouldn't make them if people didn't buy them.

you're right. why would developers want more money?
ok, come on guys... what the heck. This is actually an interesting subject. Take out the sentence about him sick and tired of them and you have a reasonable argument here. Sure... FPS's are fun, but how many do we need? I would rather play games of different experiences and different gameplay mechanics than sticking to the regular shooter formula.
What if all of those talented developers started making RTS's, Adventure games, Action games, cool puzzle games (like Trauma Center, or something non-traditional)... there could be a break-out of unique games! I would love to see that happen!

Again....you dont have to purchase those FPS's. As a matter of fact you can show the devs just how you feel by not purchasing their product...
The 360 and PS3 have more FPS's than the Wii has 'kiddie' games. But seriously, tell me if I am wrong. If its not a sports game, GTA,or an RPG, look at the future lineup of the 2 consoles. The VAST majority of major releases are shooters (1st or 3rd person). Diversity...FTWgromit007
And there inlies the reason why I am very interested in the Wii!

Seriously... if anything, the Wii has the most diverse library this coming holiday!

Im not saying that I dont like them... I buy them because they are fun. But, I find myself not buying some of the best games of the year because they are shooters and I already own 5 of them! If the developers started making more diverse choices with their products, they would stand out more in my eyes.
Listen... im not trying to turn this into a debate in whether FPS's are good or not... but rather what it would be like if we had a more diverse library to look forward to. If talented developers started bringing back True Adventure games, they were some of my favorite games long ago. Now, no worthy developer makes them... and Zack and Wiki is the first one I have seen in ages.
It's not a simple solution of "not buying them" as you so called "smartones" put its. The problem is that devlopers are focusing so much on the FPS genre that there is not that much great out there beside them. I want some of these FPS developers to make other genre's instead of the market being flooded with the same crap. God you guys lack common sense.Nin360
They lack common sense? What does that say for you? Instead of coming on the forums and spewing how others lack common sense because you feel that its to many fps's on the market. Have you ever thought of "leaving feedback" on the devs website, instead of complaining here in the forums? Your more than likely to get a response from the devs than from people on game forums that.....just dont care.
Ill even help you. Ill actually link for you Ubisoft's forums where you can bring these matters to the devs attention.
Ubi Forums To Complain 4 j0o...
I agree! Which is why people should really start supporting things like Zack and Wiki, Lair, Mario Galaxy, Bonjo, and even Heavenly Sword. Games that stray away from the shooter and RPG flood that we are experiencing. Full blown games that dong have to use a gun to make the game interesting! kansasdude2009Yeah, cause nobody even remembers those titles with the millions of shooters coming out each month. And shooters aren't "full blown" games, I guess.

So somebody wants to make a shooting game. There are a lot of shooting games already out. And you think because of that, he should make something else? Developers don't do things that way, man. How old are ya?[QUOTE="kansasdude2009"]ok, come on guys... what the heck. This is actually an interesting subject. As I said... I buy a good amount of FPS's... I plan on buying 5 this year as I put. Now, from the 4 you mentioned, now add in the rest. For there are like 10 more. :|
Im not saying that FPS's can not be unique... but either way, in the end, you are shooting things.... Dont you think this industry would be more interesting if it had more to offer? You mentioned 4 FPS's... and those 4 are very different indeed... but it is the rest the fill this genre to the brim. All, very high quality... but I would love to see that talent brought to different gameplay experiences... as I have said.

When did I say that shooters were not "full blown" games? I support them because they are made by some of the best developers we have, and are very good games! It just so happens that I like other Genres as well... which is why I also support the TC in his opinion that there are too many FPS's on the market, because there ARE! I buy a good amount of them because they are GREAT! But I would equally buy a highly developed title like Zack and Wiki because it strays away from what other developers are doing and is also a good title!
"Yeah, cause nobody even remembers those titles with the millions of shooters coming out each month." It just so happens that they dont. While shooters will make up probably around 2/3rds if our sales this year, these other titles that I have mentioned will fail to stand up to the sales most shooters will generate.
Do you think a game like Lair will sell nearly as many as, lets say... Crisis? haha... no. Yet, both games will generate hype here on System Wars, and both games will probably score very well.

I disasgree with the bolded part because what thy develop is not "the same crap" at all. They are well developed games, but I must wonder what that talent would provide us if they didn't make a FPS's and instead focused on doing something others were not.
But those 3 games that you mentioned have something that sets them apart from generic shooters.
MP3 has it's puzzles and back-tracking, Halo 3 has it's multiplayer and The Darkness has it's story and darkness powers.
It's true that there are tons of shooters...but you were never forced to play any in the first place.

The quality of it. It's kind of hard to explain but I've played it and the maps are well designed, you have a recording feature to save your best moments, the customization of your online avatar will be great too.
If it's a genre you gon't care for, it's always going to feel like there are too many. I do sometimes wonder what makes a lot of shooters different enough to get excited about. The problem arises when it feels like other genres are being ignored. I'm not going to crunch numbers, but how many fighters are coming out compared to shooters? Platformers? Beat'em Ups?, Puzzles?
Yes I know that if you don't like them don't buy them, but it can sometimes feel like your options are very limited.
