Poll Alternative: Should I get SteamDeck or Xbox Series x if GPU prices keep raising? (36 votes)

Xbox 61%
Steam Deck. 39%

Hello friends,

I have potato PC and im PC only gamer. recently with all high price GPU i was thinking of upgrading PC but it cost me so and so high so I decide to go with 2 options although they are expensive too but not as much as GPUs currently. and beside for maybe year I will use same potato PC. and yes It run many new games fine with few fps drops.

here I have 2 choices for near future if GPU prices didnot stable?

Xbox or Steam deck.

I want to play STALKER 2 but it wont run on my PC on high setting but I dont want to play it with controller. but KB/M only. since playing FPS with controller didnot work at all. however Xbox support KB/M

so its not a bad choice.

Next is Steam deck. I think its better choice for me as it fit me since its handheld PC but its hardware is weak however Im waiting for its review and if I get one. it will be year after launch anyways.

so friends, what is better alternate choice for me if PC gaming keep getting expensive?

Steam deck or Xbox?

lets discuss

What's more important to you, mobile gaming or playing all the best/new games via AwesomeSauce GamePass on the most powerful, biggest bang for the buck console on planet earth? ;o

Answer that and you buy accordingly. lol :P

Last time I saw consoles support KB/M it just ran really bad.

I thought you were making all this money with NFTs? What gives?

You're a pc gamer. Why bother with either? Drop $1200+ on a decent mid-range rtx 3070 gaming laptop and ride it for 4 or 5 years.

I would go with the Xbox in this case. The Steamdeck, although cool, is more of a handheld, and since it is running Linux it may have its own problems. I recently watched an LTT video of them using Linux for gaming, and even with the (I believe proton) compatibility layer, there are still issues (especially with games that rely on some external anticheat).

Honestly though it is possible to get an RTX card at or close to msrp. I would suggest you sign up for Inventory Bot on Twitter as well as the hotstock app and wait to see when BB drops stock. Get a few GPUs bookmarked that you would want (fe is ideal but since those are non lhr they are sometimes tougher to get, evga is alternative since they have lower prices than other aibs) and just try your luck (all available rtx cards will drop at the same time). They tend to drop every two weeks. There is also an NS extension that helps with getting through que faster (getting better que times, since it's not first come first serve but random) but I no longer know whether it still works or not. BB is your best bet, Amazon is impossible due to all the bots on it.

The deck looks to bulky and awkward to hold for extended periods in my opinion. I'm not a handheld gamer though so I wouldn't buy one anyway.

Get a RTX Laptop with 3070 or above. I think it would be enough for your needs.

I wonder if you can dock it like Switch.

Pretty sure you can plug it in to a monitor and use a KB/M.

Steam Deck is weak af. If you're looking in the SD direction as an upgrade to your pc, i can only imagine how ancient your pc is.

Your requirement is to run Stalker 2 at high settings (and i'm guessing from your post history that you will be fussy about 60FPS...but correct me if i'm wrong.).

Of the 2 devices the XSX will more than likely meet your requirements. The possible issues there will be:

  1. The dev may insist on 30FPS and push visual fidelity (have they confirmed a 60FPS mode?).
  2. The game may not support KB+M on the XSX or implementation may be poor. Is using a controller a deal breaker?

The steam deck (though looking to be a great bit of kit) is not going to do that. not even close. at the end of the day the deck is a portable PS4-ish in terms of ability. the only reason to even consider the deck is if you really want the portability.

Imagine if you would have just bought the 6600XT back in Oct. when they were readily available for around $400. Stop sitting on all that NFT money and start spending.

@osan0: yes, agreed with this. Go with the series x, its not even a real comparison because the devices are so different.

Also if handheld gaming is your thing, then theres an option for that with the series X. Sometimes when I feel like it I use cloud gaming to play my xbox games on my phone. It works really well in most cases, but falls flat in others. Not all games are supported, but those that are supported work well.

Grab the razer kishi: https://www.razer.com/mobile-controllers/razer-kishi/RZ06-03360100-R3M1

You will find it on sale on amazon so wait for it.

The best case scenario would be for ghost to get the Series X, but we find out that the game doesn't support mouse/kb🤣Imagine him having to use a controller🤗Wish he streamed, i'd watch the shit outta his stream lolol

I'm not into handhold gaming, but if it has to be one or the other, I'd still choose Steam Deck over a closed console even with weaker hardware. Even ignoring power, A PC platform gives you mod support, full backwards compatibility, complete customization of how you want to play, more free games and cheaper software. All the games you already own will be there right out of the box, and any bought will be ready when you can get a decent setup.

Top it off with both Sony and Microsoft games being on Steam, you have both 1st party titles without the need to buy two consoles, in addition to the biggest library of games on any platform. Plus, with a console your enjoyment will be hamstrung without paying a monthly subscription tax required by your new closed ecosystem masters. That's alot of pros the Steam Deck has that consoles just won't do with a closed platform.

Such a dumb concept but just know they will find a way to normalize it like pretty much every other shitty thing they've dreamed up.

If you are having trouble in getting a good PC for gaming because of high costs then I would go for the Xbox Series X over the Steam Deck in my opinion.

They offer totally different functionality - if your main issue with your PC is it's a potato then the Deck won't fix that. It's also a "potato". On the other hand, I think it's a much better addition to the hardware set of a PC gamer who already has a decent computer than an XBox would be, since it expands playing options more. Different devices for different jobs

I would wait until the Steam Deck is released and see if the reviews for it is good so you can make up your mind if it is a better choice for you over the Xbox Series X.

@ghosts4ever: it's just a PC. The games are going to run on it the way they would on a desktop with the same specs. In fact, because it's a linux OS many games will have some performance hit due to needing to pass through the compatibility layer.

Honestly, it's best to look at it for what it is: it's a handheld PC meant to give PC gamers a handheld gaming experience. You're setting yourself up for disappointment if you are expecting a high end gaming experience on it

I'd go with a laptop before a steam deck. If you don't need portable and like kb/mouse xbox isn't an option. Kb/mouse is also why I went PC this gen. I'd imagine you can get a mini tower PC for a few hundred more than an xbox. Which will even out if you need online access for multiplayer.

I think certain people have really high expectations for the Steam Deck. It's a handheld, it's going to be gimped. Get an XSX! Fantastic system.

but snipes only plays with kbm+mouse so that would make XSX very limited
