Blasphemy! Burn the witch! Stone the Heretic! Fry the Chicken! Seriously though, the GB rocked. It basically created handheld gaming as we know it.

Well the GB was ok but when Pokemon Blue came out it became pure awesomeness!

Edit: And Link's Awakening of course.

Yes you are. the fact that you got it in 95 is the reason why. If you were to buy an SNES in 1998 i'm sure you'd feel that was overrated too. But in 89 when the game boy came out, the idea that you can play some of your favorite franchises ANYWHERE was mind blowing. You can make an argument that it was the most important and influential video game machine to ever be created. I'm thinking about that now, and how much i played mine. That was one hell of a system

I really only had Pokemon on it, and Pokemon Blue/Red/Silver/Gold are some of the best games EVER!

I never owned one, but I can see the appeal.

It was the only handheld in its time not to suck the life out of eight batteries in five minutes.

This is the correct response, I had both along with Tetris, and played them for hours on end.

The GB was unique in that it's a handheld you can justify buying for even one game.

Wow brings back memories. I remember when i was a kid walking into Toys r Us going to the game section and buying a Silver Gameboy Pocket with Donkey Kong Country (i think).

Damn that GB was amazing. Then when pokemon came out, my whole world changed.

no, i don't think so. gameboy was like the first hand held system out there beside those like $5 pixel things that were one game things. i had a game gear when i was younger. it was a great hand held to play sega games on.

It's not so much that the Gameboy was overrated. Nintendo had a headstart in the handheld market and secured a lot of developers. Gamegear had some decent games. I remember playing Streets of Rage and Sonic at a friends and was really impressed. Part of the problem was how expensive the Gamegear was. You could spend a little extra and get a full console.

I will go on record saying the Gameboy's screen was atrocious. I don't think I could tolerate that ever again.

yeah the GB was a clunker. but they had GREAT support by publishers. EVERY game back in the day came out on NES, SNES, Genesis, and Gameboy and Gamegear. Plus the Gameboy was cheap and the batteries lasted forever. Gamegear was superior, but didnt have as many great games and 6 AAs that would go dead pretty fast. I never owned an original GB, because i had a lynx. Superior graphics, sound, but had a small game library.

Hey! I grew up with those games too! (along with zelda and such)

I grew up with the GB and the GB's (GBC, GBA) were the only consoles I owned when I was growing up (The GB and other home consoles were my bro's though). The Gb introduced me to gaming so I think you know how i feel.

So was the Atari 2600, and Pong..... /sarcasm GB deserves all the praise it gets, it was a revolution in gaming, and thus deserving of all the praise.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I loved my Gameboy too. It's just in retrospect, I absolutely hate the monochrome green screen. The GBC felt like such a step up for this reason alone.

I endorse this statement!

Going from my living room playing castlevania and metroid on my NES, then getting in the car and playing castlevania and metroid on my GB. Pure awesomeness.

I loved the GB. Even when i got a pocket and a colour I would stil play the original one. That is until i rolled off my bed when I was asleep and my knee went straight through the screen  That was the saddest moment (gaming) in my life.

They have bad graphics because they're handhelds.

Anyway, the Gameboy series (GB-GBA) will never ever be topped.

Yeah, I still have Super Mario Land and Pokemon blue, red. and yellow for it. I wish I had gotten one earlier, but I was a Sega diehard at the time so Game Gear was my primary handheld. :P

The Gameboy was my first system, and one of my greatest. To this day I buy Nintendo handhelds. It is absolutely amazing how enjoyable and durable Nintendo's handhelds really are - and for those who didn't live through it - how clunky the competition was. My SEGA Nomad absolutely couldn't leave a wall-socket or car-charger - it would eat through six "AAs" in a matter of two ~ three hours. - When you look at the library of games that went with this system, it's also insane. Starting with Tetris, continuing through Pokemon... it's impressive.

Maybe now. But at its time the Gameboy was the greatest thing I ever had. I loved it dearly! Zelda Link's Awakening was so awesome...ah the memories. One of the good things of my childhood was the Gameboy.

I've never thought a Nintendo handheld was overated, rather the opposite as handhelds are usually looked down upon and yet seem to offer some of the most enjoyable games every generation.
