Amazing how angry people are over being forced to use another launcher to play their games.

Good thing companies don't care about your pathetic first world problems. It's simple economics...devs need more money today than ever before and if you can't accept that Steam constantly rips them off then you're incredibly selfish. I'm so sorry the world doesn't revolve around your entitled mindset.

Again, a little outdated and not 100% objective, but the general gist is sound: Epic Store is currently extremely barebones and not ready for prime time, and will remain so for 6+ months. Add to that are legitimate privacy concerns, including possible European GDPR violation, and Epic have a lot to work on that should be of higher priority than nabbing exclusives.

It's not about using another launcher and the gaming industry is thriving at the moment. There's plenty of coverage on the topic if you're really curious why people don't like the epic games store.

Bait harder next time :P.

Do some research before you post stupid topics.

Edit: @madrocketeerdid a decent summation of the issues.

I have no problem with having multiple launchers.... However when you strong arm the market to get "time exclusives" to force users to use your "inferior" option. Is where I draw the line. Lets ignore the security issues for the time being.

Its one thing to promote your content on your store, its another to sweep and bribe 3rd party publishers to monopolize a segment of the market. If EPIC really wants to be competitive... offer better prices and extras while allowing the product to sold elsewhere ie STEAM. People dont understand that before EPIC started doing these shady buyouts Valve did adjust percentage cuts based on earnings . Going as low as 20% cut with 50 million made ie 1 million units at $50 which is not an issue with any AAA game unless its just awful. Another thing steam allows is publishers/devs to sell keys via 3rd party in which Steam/Valve do not get a cut from. While EPIC prohibits 3rd party sales until exclusivity ends...... EPIC in its current state is not competition to Steam..... GOG, and even Origin are competition since you can purchase the same 3rd party titles across them.

Agreed. Its awesome that Epic PC store is a thing. It is the best answer to PC gaming idiots when they tell me, "Don't need an Xbox. Just get a PC"

Ok, just download another launcher and stop fvckin whining.

I don't see the big deal, honestly. It's not much different to having console exclusives. Nabbing exclusives is a good way of promoting a store or console.

Its really astounding why so many still dont get why alot of people are against Epic anti-consumer practices.

Then i realised consumers like this OP simply don't have any self respect for themselves besides "OMG SHINY NEW STUFF GIMME GIMME TAKE MAH MONEH PLEASE!!!" and thats why we have rampant micro transactions and "games as services" crap in this industry right now. Thats why we have monsters like EA. Because of retards who bend over and desperately spread their buttcheeks as far as they can just so they could get their fix for a brand new gaming experience, regardless of quality.

"Hey it only takes a few seconds to just start another launcher!"

Yea getting nickled and dimed through lootboxes and microtransactions, and installing DAY 1 DLCS also take a few clicks too, idiots.

I only need to find my game download and play it. Everything else is optional trash to me that clutters my client.

Also Valve just got slammed today or yesterday by the EU for anti consumer practices. So there goes that.

I agree with the topic starter. It's funny to see how most of those "steamies" don't understand PC gaming even remotely.

It's less feature complete than Steam back in 2004. Hell, It's about as stable as Steam back in 2004 too and everyone hated Steam back in 2004. It's perhaps one of the least feature complete digital games distribution platforms in the current age.

Seriously, it's pathetic that you're trying to flip the narrative like this. Trying to make people out like we're "hysterical" over this when in reality all that's happening is we're saying "hell no I spend my money elsewhere" on some backwater forum. We aren't marching on freaking Washington.

Try this on for size: the world doesn't revolve around you. Just because Epic meets your standards doesn't give you the right to tell people who have different standards that they should shut up and take it like a bitch. If Steam didn't exist, you might have a point that nobody is "entitled" to more than what Epic offers, but given the fact that it is actively taking away droves of features we DO have, people have a right to say "no, not good enough. We've had better".

Are you incapable of understanding that other people might use features that you don't? It's called theory of mind and it's a very early developmental stage. Don't use cloud saves? Don't use mods? Great. But it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that others might, and it's a cruel soul that decides "you don't deserve what I don't value"

Just mind your own business, and let us not spend money on your store in peace

I never care about having alot of launchers, I have Steam, GoG, Uplay, Origin, Blizzard.net, Epic, ect. but the fact is, I never care about the fights between Steam & Epic but however, their are 3 things I can say about Epic store why it's a problem.

  1. The store has way less features than... well, all the other one's on PC. Even something as basic as a shopping cart is still missing from Epic but at least they have a "Game Search" which should have been their in the first place! Obviously!!!
  2. Because Epic is a shady company, mostly owned by the Chinese Government now. Some people chose not to trust Epic, and that's understandable. I don't trust Epic (well no one for that matter but myself) but I'm always honest about it by using their store to buy the game I really want to place as a last resort.
  3. Because, unlike other stores that rival Steam, Epic is doing one of the things I hate the most and as well as every PC gamer: buying third party exclusives! Console companies do this, but this type of stuff should never happened on a PC community despite you will get to play that game on the same system as everyone has, a PC. Owning multiple consoles is a pain in the butt just to play that one game exclusive but not on PC, it's the launcher exclusive.

With all of that said, I try avoiding using Epic as much as I can unless I have no other ways of buying the game I really want to play right away and not wait another year to be available elsewhere such as Steam. The Outer Worlds is a good example, it's not only coming to Epic store, it's also going to be release on Windows 10 as well and I'll play Outer Worlds on Windows 10 instead of Epic, more options is available to me. With all of that said and done, Steam happens to be my main HQ gaming collection, GoG is my second-in command HQ gaming collection as well and the rest have their uses but not Epic.

Edit: One thing I should mention this. Another thing people routinely gleam over, the EGS charges you a $5 fee for using certain payment options, usually credit cards, which all other digital storefronts innately cover. You could get around this fee by using paypal or linking in your bank credentials, but why would you do that to a platform that has routinely been shown to have constant security flaws? They also do not honor regional pricing, so naturally the only people defending EGS are the Americans, it is more expensive for every other foreign country.

The disturbing thing here is, it isn't just this guy, alt troll trying to get a rise out of people, actual gaming journalists have this attitude.

Nathan Grayson (Kotaku pleb) actually described it as "toxic masculinity", where the hell these fucksticks come from.

I can still play Earthbound because I have the cartridge. I honestly couldn't care less about the features of a digital platform. I want to know that I'll be able to access and play the games I pay full price for.

Complain all you want about features Epic Games Store doesn't have; if it falters, anything you've purchased is gone.

Well, ya know, other people are not you. For other people, at least some of these features are important.

Doesn't matter. The point still stands: Epic Games Store is in a barebones state and is not ready for prime time. It's even missing features that should be basic, industry-standard stuff. I mean, no cloud saves until May? No wishlists for 4-6 months? No shopping cart for over half a year? It's fine if you don't care about these missing features. Doesn't take away from the objective, verifiable fact that Epic Store is extremely barebones right now, and Epic are pouring their Fortnite money at forcing people to Beta-test their store instead of on improving it.

And that's on Valve. If it's a legitimate concern, there is legitimate expectation for the issues being fixed. Valve having their own regulatory issues does not excuse Epic from addressing theirs.

@mumunaro: valve is nobetter than EA on micro transactions, valve is argurably worse actually and thats saying something. Valve literraly stopped making games and just work on making micro transactions now. Counterstrike skins going for 200$+ same with dota 2, TF2, all thier MP games are just micro transactions, they actually charge people for sprays in CSGO and you get a limited amount of times you can spray it before it dissapears, you ised to just use any jpeg and upload it, valve sucks now, gabe sucks now, they ruined everything they had, now all they are known for is thier stupid launcher steam, ive used steam for nearly 18 years, because i wanted to play valves games, not for bs features I'll never use, or so they can grease game developers instead of making thier own games. They put out a shitty hearthstone clone that you have to buy in to play, plus card micro transactions. money hungry trash

EA was always scummy so seeing valve turn into them sucks.

Instead of using their Fortnite money to prioritise catching up on this deficit, they're throwing it around to force people to Beta-test their store.

On my taskbar right now:

GOG, Steam, Origin, Battle.net and UPlay. Throw in Epic GS and now that six separate launchers all with different games in them. If console gamers had to boot up separate apps in order to access certain games, they'd be complaining too.

Yeah because I'd much rather that money be spent on something useful like the development of new games instead of locking a game from Steam for a year.

I'm not a fan of Epic's plan. I'm not a fan of Epic's games and they have shown in the past that they will drop PC instantly if there is a better deal over at Microsoft/xbox.

So why would I spend money on a store whos practices I don't support?

It doesnt bother me, but I've been giving it a look, and buying out developer's games and the fact it's not up to par with Steam, makes me understand why people are annoyed.

Like having to buy a game on Switch.

I need to paid 6€ more for an 80 € deluxe edition game on Epic Store. Epic Store doesnt cover transaction fee, consumer does! not like steam, that is why epic can offer 88% revenue by distribute it cost to consumer. I wont buy any games from epic store anymore.

That is also one of the reason japanese developer still chose steam , because steam cover the transaction fee for japanese consumer. Most japanese use Wallet Credit and usualy cost 10-15% of the game price for transaction fee and steam cover it all, already included to their 30% split revenue

Paying more for less feature platform is a big no for me

Hermits think giving Gabe a monopoly on the PC platform will convince the lazy lard ass to give them HL3. ?

I've never met a pair fanbases so arrogantly ignorant of the world outside of their sweaty little echo chambers like Hermits and Sheep. ??‍♂️

This. People don't realize that Steam's 30% cut isn't greedy, they also offer better services to the consumer with regional pricing, covering transaction fees, more coverage across different companies, cloud saves, dedicated servers etc.

Steam is consumer focused while Epic is about strong arming publishers and they openly admitted that they only care about devs/publishers not consumer. Lastly, where is the uproar over MS/Sony/Nintendo's 30% cut on top of licensing/dev kits/DLC/game submission vetting fees? Valve even allow you to sell your keys your self with no cut to Valve.

Hermits think giving Gabe a monopoly on the PC platform will convince the lazy lard ass to give them HL3. ?

I've never met a pair fanbases so arrogantly ignorant of the world outside of their sweaty little echo chambers like Hermits and Sheep. ??‍♂️

It is what it is, Hermits, stay classy and continue drowning in your own arrogance. ?

Origin/Uplay/Blizzard.net/GMG/Keysites still exist to push competition within PC gaming. Stop posting bollocks.

Steam changed its cut ratio last year as well..... It goes down as low as 20% when a game at $50 sells 1 million units or hits the $50 million mark. Which is not an issue for any good game.
