Holy mother...

Is there any reason NOT to use it? Also, I guess you should disable the in-game AA before using it.

Valve Anti-Cheat.

This doesnt alter the ,exe file so it should be fine with vac. I don't see the point of using this in source games anyway.

Consoles use anything from MSAA to FXAA. Right now this new SMAA is the best one performance wise.

SMAA looks abit better than FXAA and has the roughly the same performance hit from my experience. And both SMAA and FXAA look better than MLAA imo. :)

External dlls are also subject to VAC. Additionally, VAC is seen outside of source.

With SMAA: Min: 32fps, Max: 63 No AA: Min: 36fps, Max: 63 Hardly noticeable.

Wow, I didn't really notice it with the other screen shots, but this is a huge difference. And no performance hit? I'm sold.

[QUOTE="Spartan070"]To someone who understands this tech better than I do :P; Chances this makes it next gen consoles?XVision84

It could happen, but so far it's only for PC. I can see consoles taking advantage of this since they need cheap methods of anti-aliasing.

All it takes is someone actually implementing it on consoles. One of the beauties of PC enthusiasts is that people do these things simply because they can.

We should probably have a list of incompatible games somewhere.

Edit: Turns out I just had to turn off the steam overlay to prevent the bad post-processing. (A list of incompatible games would still be helpful though)

Anyways, screens.

Make sure that you don't have fraps (or something simillar) running, and try running the game as admin. Would be a shame if we can't use SMAA in BF3.

Read up on their instructions and remember to shower the authors with praise.

Bethesdah itself seems to operate with halfassed doctrine.

It's not ok to release a broken game on any blatform.

Not working for me. Either that, or the difference is truly negligible.

Works pretty damn well in Crysis, though it doesn't seens to work along with FSAA. FXAA+FSAA is a resource hog but makes the image perfect. It's less agressive too in HUD details (SMAA). It isn't very beneficial to the Witcher 2, it has about the sameeffect as regular MLAA, wich sucked.

Considering that when you inject FXAA, you can set it to add ZERO blur (in fact you can use it to make the image SHARPER!), I don't see how blurriness can possibly be a complaint. Just need to take a minute to figure out the config. SMAA has some advantages, best of all being its ability to enhance Supersampling, and pretty much ensure that every last jaggy is gone in a stationary image. But the SMAA injector has a BIG curse: It makes everything move! The FXAA injector indeed does this too, to a MUCH lesser extent. The SMAA extra image movement is unbearable for me, so I cannot use it until someone gets some more settings on the injector or something. It drives me nuts. It also adds "junk" to small objects and lettering. At this time, FXAA remains the winner in the injectors.

A friend actually told me about this. Apparently you can do this on Battlefield 3, and it will look just as amazing, but with a few extra frames to boot.

Hopefully this is something they add to next gen consoles, since it would mean just as much beauty with less work and more room for other graphical improvements.

How does it work with BF3? It crashes every time I put it in the folder where the game is, unless I'm suppose to put it in the folder before the folder where the game is.

Battlefield 3 already has SRAA when you turn post process AA on high, which claims to do pretty much the same stuff as SMAA is doing.
