The game is supposedly incredibly linear, which is a terrible gameplay decision. Crytek is replacing the visible buttons for finishers with more subtle audio or visual cues.

I really want this game to be good as it looks brilliant, the whole in-depth Roman drama is something that appeals heavily to me. But it does have its fare share of drawbacks that have me apprehensive.

The only thing I don't really like about it is that they use the hollywood version of the romans instead of the historical one. Romans fought in formation and always died when that formation broke.

That was a pretty cool video.

Man the graphics on that looked great loved the facial animations.

All I know is that I really want the game to be good, as it looks great. Just that the gameplay seems...different.

Ryse is undoubtedly one of the most cinematic action games of the year, with exactly the same sort of scripted "Oh wow!" moments that you'd expect to find in a game like Call of Duty. Watching as ballistae demolish a castle, or as a formation of Roman soldiers raise their shields to fend off a volley of flaming arrows definitely grabs your attention and gives a tremendously encouraging look at the types of visuals we can expect from the next generation of consoles.

The executions in particular are especially effective. When you enter into an execution move, you'll see the reactions on the faces of both the killer and the killed. Playing the demo, however, I'm still not sure that's enough to make up for what still feel, to me, like canned animations. Granted we haven't had loads of time with the game, but the fighting in the Ryse demo still seems to rely more on the visceral visuals than the actual mechanics. The team will be adjusting the rather inelegant button prompts in favor of more subtle visual and audio cues, but still suggest that the next-gen appeal of the combat lies more in seeing the expressions on your victim's faces than in completely open-ended combat. We're going to need substantial time with a bigger build of the game in order to know for sure which way it's heading.

The game plays itself, I might as well just raise my feet and watch a movie.

I just want this game not to suck. 

We know it is gonna look fantastic and probably have sold control. It all depends on mechanical elements anddepth of combat. And right now they really are not having any luck convincing anyone it is gonna be great. I have it paid for.....But I am not picking it up til I see some good ans honest reviews.

And it's funny how people say that the game look like a film like it is a bad thing while the guys making the game keep saying they want it to look life a film, like that is a goal to be achieved. 

For me, cinematic games have their purpose, the same way other types of games have their purpose. There is not only one acceptable way to make a game, unless you have a narrow view, of course. 

Ryse looks like a okay game...But I do NOT want to play as a filthy Roman. Rather play as the barbarian Northerners or the Carthaginians of North Africa. I would play a game like that! So not getting this game.

this game got my jaw drop at E3 untill all the QTE. companies need to chill out with all these QTE, never a big fan of these Dragon's lair type of the game!

Simply amazing. It has some of the most innovational gameplay I have ever seen. It's going to score atleast AAAE and has a great chance at GOTY.

Weird too. I mean its a launch game and looks better than anything on PS4 so far. You the know the 50 percent more powerful console. hmmm

Things are looking real bad for Sony these days, i kinda fell sad for them.

Saw the video and the games does look amazing, even if it's just the looks. Maybe that will be enough for it to be well received? It was with Crysis after all.

Reflective paint instead of balls on face? Guess that's preferable. Reminds me of the Spartacus show. Lost track of that after Andy Whitfield died (RIP), but the first season was quite entertaining with its dumb lofty dialog and hard ass gratuitousness. Ryse seems similar in its aggressively shouty and violent theatrical tone, but you get the impression it's not going to have that goofy flair, but be more serious dramatic business. Hopefully the story stuff will work out alright.McStrongfast
