"There were two 30 foot Eyefinity screens powered by AMD "Bulldozer" FX processors that ran Dirt 3 for 10 hours straight (with no BSODs in sight)."

Eyefinity running on Bulldozer:

Bulldozer powered gaming PC:

For those who don't know Bulldozer will supposedly power the next Xbox too. Looks like Bulldozer is pretty much done. All they now need to do is mass produce them. :)

Hey mine too! I think they are using 3 1080P Projectors. In that way you want have to deal with the bezels. Can you imagine how awesome would that be? Pure gaming bliss!8)

Damn you for stealing my joke! Tough to get interested yet though, release some specs, some benchmarks and most importantly some prices and we'll talk.

WHat GPU were they using? Because it's kinda hard to believe that an on board chip on the CPU can run a game at eyefinity resolutions, and at those resolutions the burden is very heavy on the GPU rather than the CPU.

It is impressive, especially when the tech is incorporated in APU's.

Powering those three 1080p resolution projectors I believe was a 6990 GPU.

The performance of a HD 6990? You won't see APU's with that kind of power for several years.

Bulldozer IS the upcoming APU from AMD. It will pack the CPU power of roughly a sandy bridge, and the GPU power of an HD 5670 - roughly.

but does it blend? so if this is going to power X720 it should be beast no doubt, but i hear there are 6 abd 8 core varients. and what exactly does APU do differently than stand alone Cpu/gpu combo?

GotNugz

An APU is essentially a CPU and GPU on the same die - same chip. That's why the GPU isn' anywhere near as powerful as a mid-range or high end discreet GPU.

hmm but couldn't you also run a seperate graphics card with the apu or does it not allow you, i know it's sort of a self defeating idea but the more i look into it the more unimpressed i am.

You can, and it can 'crossfire' the APU's GPU and a discrete GPU.

Yeah, thats the point from what I understand. If you want to, you can look at it as a gaming-centric CPU, and not a total CPU+GPU replacement.

Bulldozer isn't the coming APU, the upcoming Bulldozer supposedly coming in September, is the CPU only.
In 2012, AMD will be launching the Bulldozer APU, for their FMx chipset

BTW awesome, hope Bulldozer delivers, i was planning on building in a few weeks, but i can wait for Bulldozer, i don't want to join the dark side, and buy an Intel/Nvidia chip.

Its just the CPU, they are AM3+ sockets and they don't support the APU socket which I can't remember what they are, basically the bulldozer mobo's won't have a vga/dvi out so they are definitly CPU only.

I think we can all agree now that that was also more than possible on a phenom, and we won't know how much power this baby packs untill we see some CPU-intensive benchies.

AMD Trinity (mobile part) comes with two Bulldozer module(4 threads)and Cayman type GPU.

Current AMD Llano uses the the same Radeon HD 5670's 400 Cypress type stream processors.

I don't get how it is demonstrating anything significant. You can max out Dirt 3 on a Phenom II X4. There wasn't anything revealed at the event that we didn't already know (nothing much). There is 1 person on HardOCP forums that does have a bulldozer on hand though.

Unlike AMD GCN, NVIDIA doesn't have X86-64 license, hence less integration with X86-64 CPU.

AMD is the current X86-64 IP holder i.e. AMD has licensed X86-64 ISA to VIA, Transmeta and Intel.

the APU basically means there's a GPU integrated into the main CPU die. It basically means you don't need any crappy integrated graphics cards because the APU can do good visuals. OR if the APU isn't powerful enough graphically then you can install a separate GPU to boost things.

30 foot screen sure does sound a lot more impressive than 3x 1080p... which isn't at all impressive.

Yeah, this was marketing more than anything. A sub-$100 athlon x4 can run Dirt 3 maxed out at nearly 60fps anyways, we will need to see some benchmarks before any real judging.

A 30 foot screen at 1080p would look terrible at that distance. All blurry.

A 30 foot screen that is made up of 3 1080p frames together = WAY nicer.

How expensive it would be and how powerful it would be are my 2 biggest concern, also heat and lasting time. This should be good if they can pair it with a good enough GPU and make it cheap.

What exactly is this demonstrating? How about a actual taxing game? Dirt 3 isn't what I'd call demanding these days.
