amd's kaveri apu has been detailed for the first time and the picture is shockingly grim for the xboneand wii-u.

their high end apu has 13cu's (or core units). to put that into perspective the xbone has 14cu's and the wii-u has only 8cu's. the lowest end apu for kaveri has 10cu's on the desktop side making the Wii-U inferior in hardware to even a bottom end apu laptop..

it has a clock speed of 600Mhz and a maximum ram clock of 3Ghz making kaveri superior to xbox one in memory clock and likely in core clock (thats before turbo-clocking which will likely up that to 1.1ghz if not double it)

this is a huge step forward for apu graphuics and will mark the first time a laptop will be able to play console games.. as good as that console come product launch (if not just slightly worse).

TL;DR: next gen amd based laptops will be essentially as powerful as the xbox one and in some ways vastly superior at a competitive launching price tag

oh ffs it does not matter if desktop and laptops are more powerful. My current laptop is more powerful than Xbox 360, wtf has that changed? nothing. You won't be able to play console exclusives on this AMD Kaveri and no dev will take their time utilize full power of of this APU or any other desktop GPU.

Yep. About all this means is that the next laptop I buy will be able to play current games at a decent setting. Won't have any effect on console sales.

Wow, laptops with near "next gen" console graphics capabilities?  Picking up one of those bad boys for LAN parties and gaming on the go, for sure.

It definitely won't hurt PC gaming penetration, that's for sure. A lot of students, specially would be happy gaming on their laptops over having to worry about a third device in their dorm rooms.

indeed or even a second (tv) its very much an end to intels dreams of making a good laptop/desktop gpu. game set & match haha. and after kaveri comes berlin and berlin is supposed to surpass that.

i think its safe to say that intel's abaility to compete with AMD in the laptop market is over. when people start to realise that amd smokes intel in the mobile computing utility and versatility end of things.. its over. i have a hashtag saved for such an occassion #intels1trickpony haswell, broadwell use the same graphics chips, and then skylake isnt pushing the envelop any at this point. if AMD just keeps uping the mobile gpu and steadily hanging out with their cpu end. im calling it, the tables will flip

OK, when ya say it has 13 CUs I assume you mean those are functional CUs. Xbox One doesn't have 14 of them, it has 12. Sure, it has an additional 2 that are turned off to help with manufacturing yields but if they're not doing anything there's no sense in counting them.

If someone said laptops would be able to run 360-setting games in 2006 you'd laugh at their face. Times are really changing.

Cool... meanwhile, as far as laptops go, I'm stuck with Nvidia 740M.

Cool story bro but 95% of games aren't exclusive to consoles so your silly exclusives don't mean a thing.

When the exclusives are some of the best games yeah they do matter.

@cfisher2833: x86 CPUArchitecture. Graphics architecture requires its own interface.
