Sometimes not even that, people don't realize how big PC Gaming is in Europe..

THE WITCHER sold 40 thousand copies in America thus far, world wide it's over 1 million already.

Take a look at Germany's November numbers

Germany:
1 Crysis (PC)
2 Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
3 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PC)
4 Assassin's Creed (PS3)
5 Assassin's Creed (Xbox 360)
6 Crysis Collector's Edition (PC)
7 High School Musical: Sing it (PS2)
8 WWE Smackdown vs. RAW 2008 (PS2)
9 Unreal Tournament 3 (PC)
10 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PS3)

Crysis number 1, COD4 sold the best on PC. Germany isn't as big as America (just under 90 million) , but looking at this chart if gaming is as popular amongst the German population as it is in America this could mean Crysis is over half a million in sales in Germany alone...

AmericaBox360 doesnt fair well anywhere besides America and the UK .. both with identically shallow cultures imo ( and I am British ). .... they clone eachother and follow fads of most other countries from time to time.

Not that its relative to the topic other than how much alike they are ... but hey ....

360 has no chance of winning this generation, PC & Wii will, PS3 will overtake the 360 *possible* by the end of this gen.

I dont understand how lemmings can be so cocky, outside of shooters and multiplat RPGs , theres only 9 AAEs and 4 AAAEs ... thats not so great, 2008 looks, sure Wii looks worse games wise but its still selling like hotcakes meaning it may end up having tons of great games like the DS.

Well, The Witcher sold 500k copies in Poland alone, so yeah, PC gaming is kinda pretty big here in ol' EU :P

Looking at charts and seeing how many people bought Assassin's Creed really disturbs me. Unfortunately, I was one of them.

Wow, is everyone getting Crystal Balls for Christmas ?

The 360 has undeniably better games as a whole than any other system, besides the PC which has been around for 20 years

PC doesn't really "Win" anything, it's existence isn't decided on how it performs in the market, so it's inclusion is utterly baffling to me.

Unfortunately for Cows and Hermits, the market doesn't revolve around any of the following countries:

Albania
Andorra
Armenia
Austria
Azerbaijan
Belarus
Belgium
Boznia and Herzgovina
Bulgaria
Croatia
Cyprus
Czech Republic
Denmark
Estonia
Faroe Islands
Finland

PC games sell horrible. IF it wasn't for hardware sales PC gaming would be dead. Why is hardware sales better than games sales? I'll let you figure that out.

and I said *Possible* so wheres the Crystal ball? If the PS3 sales are increaseing everywhere but america, if 2008 bodes well for the PS3 then it could easily take over eventually, thats prediction through logic, not crystal ball theory.

Bamboo, I think if you combine those countries, you get a substantial gaming population. Don't count out Europe simply because they're PC first, console second.

Valve does not support NVIDIA or Intel, they support ATI. And Half-Life has sold 8 million copies on the PC to date, and Half-Life 2 has sold 4 million retail copies as of 2006, a lot more if you count Steam sales.

Well I think it's safe to say it's more than 5% in total. With some games like The Witcher which are specifically aimed at the European market that 5% might very well be true, but on the other hand there are propably games which have good sales in USA as well and/or bad sales in Europe.

It might also affect that Americans propably have better connections and possibly use services like Steam more to buy their games, which might also make it seem like they aren't bying PC games nearly as much as Europeans since only retail counts. But yeah it would seem like USA is becoming a console land like Japan.

5%? No.But I would say it's about 20% and decreasing. Even big titles sell better in Europe. Example: CnC3 has yet to reach 250K copies sold in US, ten months after game's release. While worldwide it passed million copies in mere two months.

I can buy 20 percent, no more then that though.... I bet EA will announce Crysis sold a million before the end of January.

Its most certainly NOT the biggest market. People see dwindling PC stock in stores in America and cry its dying. yet every year the PC has many, many million sellers. Not to mention the best games. Not to mention the best...well, everything really.

Because game publishers make a percentage off high level hardware...you cant pirate an 8800GT...so Crytek still gets your money even if you download their game...

I don't think the number is that low, and it's hard to gauge the number anyways because we don't know how downloaded games play a part in the numbers.

It is probably 20% but European developers have their games sell VERY well in Europe. CD Projeckt, Crytek, etc. They are European based developers(Crytek based in Germany, CD Projeckt inPoland)and their games sell the most in Europe by far. I have already said that US Retail figures don't matter for PC gaming. Europe and Digital Distribution arethe majority and will continue to be the majority for a long time.

maybe. Just look at attendance at GC or other tournaments... GC gets huge numbers of attendees. Tournaments get large numbers of visitors too.

Thing is, in terms of hardcore gamers, everywhere pales in comparison to Korea. Korean's may not be interested in many western games but the games they do like, they are fanatical about.

Wanna know how many people attended Blizzards Worldwide Invitational?

The OLYMPIC STADIUM was PACKED to the brim for the Starcraft 2 announcement. After the Olympic stadium was filled up, there were huge crowds outside the stadium watching a big screen. Then, there was the news coverage of it.

But there's something missing from this chart: numbers. This is just a relative chart of popularity with no absolute numbers to corroborate it. Furthermore, there are no American numbers to comapre against it.

As for broadband penetration, America is generally considered not as advanced as Korea and parts of Europe (where there has been a big push to wire up). Part of the problem, of course, is area. Wiring up a country like South Korea isn't all that difficult as, say, wiring up the state of Texas, which is itself larger than South Korea and (I think) about 90% rural. And getting good links between a city here (ie. Houston) and, say, Chicago, Illinois can't be cheap.

In America, it is all about marketing. And the marketing leader is Microsoft selling their Xbox to the American public (adolescent males and tweenty somethings).

But in other countries like Japan, they could have a smaller population but a higher percentage buys games.

The question, then, becomes which is bigger overall. America has a smaller gaming percentage but a bigger population (close to half a billion at last census), whereas in Europe and Japan it's reversed (in Japan it's like 1/3, I think).

You must really know what you talk about!

PC as in Games Library, Wii as in sales.
