I don't hate the guy, but I'm not a fan of his content either. He has his shtick, some people like it, good for them. It's just not for me.
As a showman he doesn't do it for me. His whole act is being a disgruntled gamer who has knee jerk reactions to everything and struggles to articulate a simple point.. if it's even an act. Basically he's no different from thousands of forum gamers I've seen over the years, he just happens to make videos. He provides roughly the same entertainment value as reading a fanboy argument on Gamefaqs.
As a reviewer, I think he's even worse. Like most reviewers in our industry he doesn't know how to critique a game to save his life. That's whatever though, I suppose I'm used to it. What bugs me about Joe is that he often likes to wait on the sidelines and gather up the popular opinion before issuing a review that is essentially an echo chamber of what the internet thinks. Granted I don't watch all of his videos, I could be wrong, but I do catch one every few months and it's almost always the same thing. No new insights, no ideas of his own, just channeling others opinions while coming off like a caricature of the gamer stereotype.
His endorsement or disapproval of a video game carries no weight to me.
Far too much hyperbole and far too easily swayed, if I want to see gamers like that I just come to SW.
