In a video shown to press late last year, Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama said: We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later.

Well, this pretty much meant for us ps3 fans that the ps3 version of the game wouldent be hindered, or would have a full focus on theJP version and minimise the usual multiplat issues...

You can forget that because SE has once again stabbed us in the back.

360 and PS3 FFXIII engine work done 'simultaneously'LINK

Game engine work on both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of hotly anticipated JRPG Final Fantasy XIII is being conducted simultaneously, Square Enix has revealed.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at a recent press event in London, Final Fantasy XIII producer and series legend Yoshinori Kitase said that regarding the "basic engine", work on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game will be kept on the go "simultaneously".

Final Fantasy XIII runs on the Crystal Tools game engine, an engine built by Square Enix to be used across the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and PC. It was created during development of Final Fantasy XIII as a means of stepping up from the PS2, home of the last "main series" Final Fantasy game.

The Xbox 360 version of the game was spectacularly announced during Microsoft's media briefing at E3 last year. Square Enix has said that the game will be released in Japan on the PS3 only, then released in the US and Europe simultaneously on the PS3 and Xbox 360 at a later date.

In a video shown to press late last year, Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama said: "We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later."

Some gamers have expressed concern over the prospect of the Western release of the PS3 version of the game being held back while development on the 360 version is completed.

When asked if development of the Xbox 360 version had begun, Kitase told VideoGamer.com: "When it comes to the basic engine it's likely we are going to keep them on the go simultaneously. But the finishing touches, the details, the PS3 version will be completed first, then we will move on to 360."

"We will have to wait until we are done with the PS3 version," Kitase added in response to being asked whether the finishing touches on the Xbox 360 version had begun.

So this can only mean that the game is actually being developed on both systems simultaneously and one of the versions will suffer graphically(most likely again the ps3)

Finishing touches; yeah change the button icons. Thanks SE.
I will prolly boycott FFXIII and wait for versus instead.

They're probably trying to move up the schedule a bit. Starting on the 360 version earlier will shave some time off.

Yeah, everybody knows its a multiplat engine but you can clearly read between the lines that both versions of FFXIII is actually being developed simultaneously.

Well if starting on the Xbox 360 version earlier than originally expected results in us gamers outside of Japan getting the game sooner then I'm perfectly okay with Square Enix workingon both versions simultaneously.

Different teams are handling each version and probably the most skilled devs from SE are taking care of the ps3 version.

I'd like to believe that too but im starting to loose faith in SE. Pretty much all of their published/released games have been subpar compaired to last gen. Technically weak and unpolished and stories have been meh.

Then again ... the game is being built off a multiplat engine. So technically, much of the work being done on the PS3 ver IS being done on the 360 ver, no matter what. This might not mean what we think it means.

lol. Seriously.

If this is your biggest problem u need to get some better priorities. What exactly are you angry about? It doesnt matter which is done first they both being released at the same time...

Boycott FFXIII all you want. It means squat to them, and then u go buy FFXIII VS so they still get money out of you.

IMO a big blow up about absolutely nothing. The graphics wont suffer at all. Square Enix's core FF games have always pushed the graphical capabilities and it looks great.

If u willing to miss out on the game because u can spot a jaggie in a place the 360 doesnt have it then go ahead.

I'm fine with that...as long as it means an earlier release for everyone. Why is that a bad thing, because the 360 version isn't being ported? :|

Compare SE games this gen to Ps2 and Ps1 era to see the huge difference between quality titles by this time in each gen. It has been subpar.

The Core FF team and series has a strong track record. They have been working on this game most likely since the end of FFXII (im not sure though), whereas other teams have completed the spin offs and new IP's. The demo looked great? Why dont u think the rest of the game is going to look as good as the demo? Or do u believe the demo was subpar? and that the co development on both systems has made the demo look like crap?

Oh, I don't think FFXIII is going to be bad. I have no doubt about it. But the amount of time it's taking for a quality game from them is kinda mind blowing.

If Square-Enix's objective in simultaneously developing the game on both 360 and PS3 platforms means an earlier release schedule for the global videogame market outside of Japan, then I don't mind at all. The Crystal Tools engine is a PC based engine optimized for making future Square-Enix games easily built on all current generation consoles. If anything, the superior version of Final Fantasy XIII will be on the PC (1920x1080 resolution or higher, high detailed shadows and textures, enhanced visual effects and post-processing, etc.).

LOL LOL LOL, LOL LOL LOL, LOL LOL all the way. Who cares? They make a diverse engine that works on multiple systems (meaning its scalable) and you get upset at that? The FF Series started on nintendos console, it shouldnt be any surprise that they want to make it work on as many consoles as possible. The game will be very similar on all consoles, just the small details will vary. Infact, seeing as the 360 can produce more graphical detail than the PS3, i'd be more worried that the ps3 will hold it back. 360 will get washed out textures and slower load times if that were true.

Hey i feel the same, But i have faith and from what ive seen its going to at the very least look fantastic and sound great. Story and gameplay well see. Its just that some people seem to blow up over this news like it means something... when it doesn't mean squat. We dont even know what the core build consists of.

We know the engine is a multiplat engine. The point was that the game was multiplat all along despite what SE said. And they also said that they wouldent even start on the 360 version untill the Japanese version is Finished. The only good thing about all of this that it might release earlier but they still lied their ***** off.

The attatchment rate is actually good, just not 360 good. and my comment was based on the assumption that the Ps3 NA version would be finished first.

People need to familiarize themselves with cross platform engines.

Of course it is being developed simultaneously, that is what the engine is built to do. These game engines generate code and content for the additional versions during development, you cannot just throw a game out using this method; but it covers a lot of the work needed.

That they would develop the PS3 first then move onto 360, yet they call it is simultaneous development, makes sense under these circumstances.
