There's one issue that have come up; the PS3's blu-ray capabilities. Many instances fans have praised the integration of blu-ray to video games. Given that it has a higher capacity. Though, many cannot deny the flas in it's make and mechanisms of functioning. Blu-ray requires hardware cache, to improve load times being one. Having said that there's another reason Blu-ray would be an undesirable feature for developers.

Blu-ray is a relatively new format and has a long ways away to become the universal format. With the competition heating up with HD-Dvds there's no sign of when a new format king would be crowned. Currently, the DvD is the much prefered format by distributors, consumers, and users. The Dvd has the technology and the manufacturing tools smoothed to efficiency. Taken those factors into mind, you'll realize Blu-Ray is a hefty price compared to the DVD.

So where does this factor in with devs on the PS3? I'm just getting to it. With a smaller userbase; cause for lesser sales. In addition, with costs of the blu-ray format not being as cheap as a DvD, which require pennies to mass, are cause for concern. For exampl, if it takes 0.03 dolalrs to print CoD4 on DvD and it cost .50 dollars to do so on blu-ray, and you hope to sell a million copies; you'll lose $ 500 000 opposed to the $ 30 000. Assuming blu-ray is in fact that cheap to make; a single Blu-Ray blank cost $18, roughly. So I'm giving Blu-Ray the benifit of the doubt imagine if it were $1 - $3.

Before crying out "LoL five dvds for LO or Blue Dragon" this isn't about capacity, but a subsequent financial loss.

Well if a DVD is 0.50 and BRD is 1.00 (example) and the game need 3 disks then... Is cheaper on BR. Other thing is, BR is good to work with because of the linear reading speed which any data in any part of the disk is read at the same speed. Another thing is, when dealing with multiple disk games, you have to repeat lots of data on those disks so if a game is 13 GB for example, but 5 of those must be repeated so that makes a game that should fit into 2 DVD9s will have to be made on 3 DVD9s. So no. BR disks is actually better for devs. The problem with devs on the PS3 are other, between the difficulty on developing for the Cell architecture and the ram pools. Even a bigger problem for Devs is that making money on the PS3 plataform is no easy task. (look at the PS3 userbase and abysmal game software sales.

There are three reasons that devs don't love hte PS3.

1. It costs a lot to do it

2. It's really hard to do

3. There aren't a lot of PS3's sold

yeah that makes sense in terms of games, but for movies blu-ray has got it covered over hd-dvd's

dont be suprised x-bots when microsoft announces they're going to start shipping games on hd-dvd's.(if not this gen, then next gen.)

i mean they just came up with those 100 gig blu rays that work in the players that are on the market today, with just a firmware upgrade.
