My sister in law is working for gamestop. She doesn't realy play video games and could care less about the ps3 or 360 or wii. I was asking her how sales were and she told me they're sold out of wiis, and 200.00 dollar 360. She told me that she explains to people that for an extra 100.00 they can get the premium with a hard drive, and they wont buy. I guess the 200.00 360 has Hit a sweet spot. She also told me that alot off the people who want a ps3, will not get it because it wont play the ps2 games. someone through a fit when they wouldn't let them return it after they got home and found out no backwards compatibly.

what Im saying is maybe no backwards compatibility is also loosing it some sales. The price just isn't working right now.

I agree no backwards compatibility for the PS3 was a HUGE mistake. I just do not understand what they were thinking with the PS2 having such a vast library and the winner last gen.

i do agree it is gonna disappoint some by the new ps3 lack of BC.

but people are definitely exaggerating the whole situation.

Sony is a HUGE company, it will do just fine. its not like its the first time Sony has kicked out employees.

its like saying that Microsoft is doomed because Vista failed and how many lawsuits were made against them

That dosen't mean there doomed now does it?

Yes, that's probably one of the reasons. Which is why PS2 consoles are STILL selling.

PS2 obliterated the competition last gen, simply because (aside from DVD playback) of the strong hype over Backwards Compatibility with PS1 games. This ensurred gamers that their PS1 games STILL had some value left and the PS2 was well worth the bang for thier wallets.

With the current PS3 models, nothing is ensurred. Yes, it can play DVDs, CDs, and BR-D. But a without a B/C feature, this only gives the impression to some gamers and consumers that their PS2 games have absolutely no value. Consumers love value in the products they buy.

Lack of BC is a shame but if I wanted to play my old PS2 games, I'd use the PS2. Then again, I don't usually go back to playing my old games anyway.

I call BS. Gamestop lets you return consoles. I returned a 360 two weeks after buying one because it RROD.

Of course you can return it even if nothing is wrong with it.

The best thing to do is avoid Gamestop all together. Go somewhere like Wal Mart where you have a 90 day return policy.

Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are all Entertainment Giants none of them are going down any time soon. You guys should be more worried about people who make the GPU's because they are taking a beating because of the recession.

I just think that if someone wants a PS3, and they really wanted to play PS2 games they could buy a used one for 60 bucks.

I got rid of my PS2 so I would need that BC for the PS3... However if sony offers PS2 titles for sale on PSN (resonably), I'd probably still pick one up... Just not at $400. However that's not my only reason for not wanting one at this point and time.
