Bethesda Indiana Jones Game Reportedly Not an Xbox Console Exclusive

Indiana Joneshas once again become a topic of conversation following the recent announcement of the fifthIndiana Jonesfilm. It's prompted discussion over if theIndiana Jonesvideo game being developed by MachineGames will make an appearance during this year's Bethesda summer games showcase. In turn, it's now being claimed that despite Microsoft's acquisition of MachineGames as part of the ZeniMax deal, itsIndiana Jonesgame will not be an Xbox console exclusive.

The report comes from Windows Central's Jez Corden, who explained what he's heard about theIndiana Jonesgame while discussing possible titles that could appear at this year'sXbox/Bethesda summer event. His comments are short and simple. Corden says that he's heard theIndiana Jonesvideo game is not an Xbox console exclusive. However, he does mention that he heard this news a year ago, which opens the possibility of things having changed in the year since.

MachineGames'Indiana Jonesgame was first announced in January 2021. A 30-second trailer was released confirming that Bethesda and MachineGames were working withLucasfilm Gamesto create a newIndiana Jonestitle, but little else was shared either at the time or in the months since. Notably absent from the announcement was any information about which platformsIndiana Joneswould eventually be released on.

The early 2021 announcement and lack of information led to serious questions regarding what platforms Indiana Jones would support upon its eventual launch. That's because Microsoft's acquisition of Zenimax, which included Bethesda and MachineGames, didn't complete until March 2021. As such, Bethesda could have made platform partnerships prior to Microsoft taking over the business plan for Indiana Jones, all of which Microsoft would then be required to fulfill.

There's no indication that Indiana Jones will be a PlayStation exclusive, or anything of the sort. It does look like Indiana Jones will be a multiplatform release for both Xbox and PlayStation when it arrives, though. That's not such a bad thing for video game fans, but Xbox would certainly have preferred to have Indiana Jones as a console exclusive to draw players to the platform.

Xbox will still be able to capitalize on Indiana Jones in a variety of ways, of course. It should still be able to launch Indiana Jones on Xbox Game Pass as a day one release for both PC and Xbox, if it chooses to do so. As for when Indiana Jones can expect to hear more, the Xbox and Bethesda summer games showcase is planned for June 12. Indiana Jones could make an appearance there.

How is this news? Indiana isn't even a Bethesda IP, so why would it be exclusive to xbox? Did you know, back in the day there were like 10 spiderman games on xbox as well as ps. Maybe you forgot about it? They made the current spiderman games exclusive to ps5 only after getting the agreement from marvel to do so. If marvel said no, or xbox insisted on getting a version, then insomniac would never have made spiderman, let that sink in. This Indiana Jones is something similar, there's contract agreements with the IP holder, who I think is mgm

But why would Microsoft make a game for PlayStation? Unless this was contracted before MS bought Bethesda and MS agreed to honor contracts.

@x_hedon: yes, that's probably the reason why. Going forward MS might even continue doing it. No point leaving money on the table. I mean, Sony can't be the only one to milk the cows, MS should join in on the party and fund my gamepass service.

MS wants more people to buy into the Xbox console and Windows PC ecosystem. Console gamers on PS will want to buy an Xbox to play these exclusives, which MS wants. That will lead to more revenue for MS and more profit, more Xbox Live subs. Phil stated that these games will go where Game Pass exists.

If MS wanted to cater to the PS to make more money, they would put Starfield, Gears, Redfall, Fable, etc on PlayStation.

Yeah, this time last year, there were lots of beliefs. If there is no prior contract in place for the game to come to the PS5, I highly doubt it's happening.

I have no idea why these news would be considered sad. Would be worse if they made a Switch version. That could actually make all versions of the game worse.

@girlusocrazy: if you mean the ps4 library is better, I'd agree with you. If you're saying the ps5 library is better than xbox, I'd say you're smoking some strong stuff. For those of us who beat the best the ps4 has to offer years ago, waiting for the ps5 library to fill out makes far more sense. That's what my stance is with the ps5 right now. Even if it cost $300, I wouldn't buy it at this point. I bought one a few months ago because of the FOMO and the hype. Even though I never buy a ps so early in the gen, but I did this time. I ended up selling it just as I expected I would.

Once persona, and uncharted release, plus spiderman2, the ps5 will become a must buy. Heck, I'm holding out some hope for tlou3 as long as Neil doesn't screw it up. Right now, the ps5 is just a smelly turd, dust collector. Let that sink in cows.

Compare that to halo infinite, MSFS20, psychonauts 2, tunic, forza horizon 5, Sea of Thieves, plus all the amazing 3rd party games like you mentioned the gunk, 12 minutes, nobody saves the world, deaths door, forgotten city, hitman3 trilogy, gotg, all free courtesy of gamepass. Cows owned as usual.

Opinions are such a funny thing. I enjoyed all the PS exclusives more than all the xbox games you mentioned (apart from GT7 not a sim fan).

From all the xbox games you mentioned I only enjoyed FH5 and psychonauts 2.
