The reason why: because Brawl's cutscenes were put on the internet.
Okay, Sakurai. You had a legit reason for not wanting a fighting game character into Smash, but this is pathetic reasoning.
Thoughts?

Mortal Kombat 9 showed you can quite easily infuse story-telling into fighting games. Context makes everything better.
Don't think it really needs one anyway.

This.
Besides the other Smash Bros Games didn't have them. Brawl was the only one to have something of a "story".
[QUOTE="93BlackHawk93"]Whoa! I wouldn't go that far YET!First the awful name, then the limited roster and now this. This is shit.

-I'll give you that one
-Debatable. Some fighting games with less characters can be regarded as superior than ones with MORE characters. See: MK9 vs MK Armageddon or DBZ Budokai 3 compared to the Tenkaichi games
So yeah, a bit too early.

Eh, I liked more the Tenkaichi games.MK9's story wasn't very good, tho.Mortal Kombat 9 showed you can quite easily infuse story-telling into fighting games. Context makes everything better.

What a disappontment. Nintendo is seriously struggling in this transition to HD lmao

Yeah Like the Story mode in Smash Bros was worth anything.Â
I think you guys are overrating it a bit.
Nintendo is becoming more asinine by the day. Their choices regarding both their consoles and their games have been flat out moronic.
Damn now everybody has to unlock the characters the old fashioned way :P that's the only real loss here.bbkkristianThat's the only good part about it.

Yep, but apparently people in this thread REALLY liked Brawl's Story.
Also people go play Project X Zone if you really want Fanfiction to come to life.
Question: did you guys actually enjoy the Subspace Emissary? I swear, before this was announced, everybody hated it. Most crossovers stories suck. Are we really losing anything here?bbkkristianI enjoyed it.

Wow, people in This thread are so backwards. Project X Zone got really hated on in reviews for its complex story.Question: did you guys actually enjoy the Subspace Emissary? But Sakurai's reason was still s***.

From playing the demos, I can see why the reviewers critiqued the story the way they did. :PQuestion: did you guys actually enjoy the Subspace Emissary? Are we really losing anything here?bbkkristianI thought it was mediocre. what annoys me about this is that they have the nerve to blame their laziness on the fact that the cutscenes are online, when the story mode could have been improved for this game.. it's wasted potential with one of the worst excuses I've ever seen.

I hope there still is an adventure mode, then...

i love brawl...but playing through Subspace Emissary, i didnt follow the story for sh!t. I didnt even realize it tried to make a story out of it. I would like to have those fun minigames and stuff that subspace offered though. THey were fun.Ya know what? To replace the SSE, give us an adventure mode or another mode where we face Video game bosses. Because I did enjoy facing Rayquaza and Ridley. I would love to see oversized characters get some love.bbkkristian
you mean All-Star Mode?

More like Boss Battles. All Star Mode you face every character on the roster. That's a BS reason, but who the hell wants a story mode in a fighting game? Just give me the target tests, homerun contest, and various other mini games based around the fighting mechanics and that's more than enough.

I actually like it that way. The Subspace Emissary made it too easy to get every character.

I think it's stupid that they make you unlock all the characters. They should give you the entire roster at the start.

Nothing stupid about that, unlocking character is part of the enjoyment, for me anyway. I don't like to pick my favourite character at start and just stick with it, it's boring.[QUOTE="Demonjoe93"]

I've always thought unlockables are one of the best part of games like this. It's fun unlocking stuff, including characters.
Story for this type of games are just lame. Look at Dissidia.rjdofuBam. Case and point. Still one of my fav games though. :P
