Rainbow Six: Patriots was about a domestic terrorist group who target and execute people on behalf of victims of what they considered Wall Street corruption. Basically an armed militia group that evolved from the Occupy Wall Street protests. It's a shame that it got cancelled because a game dealing with domestic terrorism is something new and Ubisoft Montreal is a talented studio, so at worst the result would have triggered some interesting discussion in the industry.

Are you mad?

Have you played a recent Ubisoft Rainbow Six game? Shit would have handled with the same amount of grace as a Marvel flick.

Don't care, would get to shoot AIG executives. 10/10 video games are art

Plenty just in one series, even though they may not have been born here and nowhere is explicit most of the time; aren't most of the bad guys you kill in GTA games considered Americans? Same for all the gangs in Crackdown. Now, if you mean the American military, well then, that's a horse of a different color and I don't think they should do that, besides, it wouldn't go over well in the country that buys most of these type games, FPS / TPS combat. :P

@-God-: don't want to play a game where people who behead people for not joining their specific Islamic cult are beheaded. To suggest having a game like that besides in arena shooter is just wrong...

I expected more someone using the name -god-

Now a game where the public in America up rises against the Obama admin trying to take away our guns and attempting to put Americans in FEMA consintration camps. .. wouldn't be a far stretch from the socialist end goal agenda. And it puts the gov. As the enemy not the American people.

Apart from Spec Ops The Line, I cannot think of many recent ones.

I think GTA and Max Payne toyed with American cliches. Probably old Fallout games, but the new ones too.

Anything else comes to your mind?

REally... you can't be serious... why don't we play as the Nazis then.... oh right that would be a Travisty, but it's ok to play as ISIS kiling amercians...... people who behead other muslims and christians... screw that...

/end rant

- the only way something like that would be acceptable is if it was history like 70 plus years ago as this shit hits too close to present times...and frankly I cringe at the thought of my countrymen being killed... now if you said democrats and Republicans I would so have at it... :p

@jun_aka_pekto: back when ms made pc games and good ones at that. The gates era of ms was great for games on pc and xbox 1 was really a 1 not a "one"

Other games u can play as Germans against Americans or others...

panzer general and basically any grand strategy game you can play as them... and company of heroes, which is weird how we (people, devs ,history etc..) look at the military conquest in awe and respect and make games about it but at the same time make other games about killing them en mass, Ala any fps ww2 game.

Personally I usually never play the American side in strategy games even though I am one and love my country, just not too fond of the politicians from both oligarch parties...

@Midnightshade29:

When I play a game and choose the other side instead of the US, I treat it like the opposing forces in real-world war games. The big training meets (Top Gun, Red Flag, etc) always have opposing forces who follow the doctrine of the enemy they are emulating to the letter.

I don't mind. I got de-sensitized years ago.

In ARMA 2, I can make scenarios where US forces would be on the receiving end.....

I know you alluded to it in your OP but definitely GTA V. The U.S. government law agencies are constantly at odds with each other, and they're fucking everything up in the process. They are screwing you over, the people over, each other over. They are the main villain. True that you are american, (and Canadian) but then you are a bad guy as well.

Depending on which country you're at, and the continent model it goes by (there are several) America can denote a continent, not a country.

Then educate yourself a bit

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americas

perhaps you should educate yourself a bit

The Americas aren't a continent: "combined continental landmasses of North America and South America"

Facepalm. But both South and North America are continents. Lol.

You're both kind of wrong, because you're both being absolute. There's no universal definition of continents. Some models consider America a single continent. Some models consider Australia a continent (others don't). Some models consider Eurasia a continent. And so on.

There are not very many, because mainstream media must apologize for all of the crimes of American imperialism or come under fire from "critics." Because of this, these conceptions dominate popular consciousness. Today the propaganda is becoming increasingly ridiculous and full of falsification.

If you read the events about the German surrender, Germany surrendered to the Allies at the Western Front first (signing the documents of surrender) followed by a similar signing with the Soviets a day later.

Every major defeat of the Nazis came on their eastern front e.g. the Panzers and such. If you also read history, Soviet troops arrived in Berlin before the other Allied forces. I could bring up the Soviet banners and such that filled Germany, the aspirations of the Nazi regime and of fascism, the western governments' support and admiration for the Nazi regime prior to his westward conquest etc. but all the debunking of historical revision can take place somewhere else.

America is a continent, not a country. The United States (of America.... of...Of... OF....) is a country tho.

Thats why in Latin America people from the US are (properly) referred to as United Satedians.

Well, since I've help the Yanks murder approximately 176 million Russians, Arabs, Chinese, Koreans and other assorted Eastern/black/brown people throughout my vidya game career, a chance to strike back would be welcome.

I think a game where you play as a young Muslim man in Madeupistan, whose family are killed by an American drone strike and then gets involved in Taliban/ISIS/Hizbollah/etc could be very good. Might make people think as well. Not that it will ever, ever happen.

It's not "America" per se, but the human faction is the definite "bad guy" in Gears of War.

They settle the Locust home world, start ripping into it's surface for resources, and the Locust come pouring out in defence of their home land... and we're forced to slaughter them all in delightful, gory fashion.

It's hard to make the US the bad guy when the military might of the US is so lopsided. It already takes a hilarious amount of fiction just to build up another nation or power in the world that can somehow contend with the US. It's kind of a logistics thing.

Also, one of the primary markets for games is the US, so it's hard to pain the entirety of the nation as the badguy and somehow still receive commercial success in the US market.

Generally you don't see democracies as the "evil" power in any game. That's why we don't see the British as the badguys in any game either. It's hard to paint a democracy as an evil entity. It's a lot easier to point fingers at dictatorships.

Lots of factors I guess.

I would love to play a WWII game from the German perspective in early WWII. Could be a lot of fun.

Ever heard of the Philippine-American War? A game based on that war would be very interesting for a change.

Still I remember playing ARMA 3 tutorial and the Americans being super nice 'don't torture the hostage' types who chastised NATO forces for beating the civilian population. The NATO forces even had hilarious vaguely European accents. I lol'd

Not the bad guy and maybe not intentional, but the Killzone games are basically more about how the imperialists are douchebags, because half the time I'm rooting for a Helghan to just kill Rico.Honest answer, before it jumped the shark, Call of Duty 4's America wasn't "bad", but they were more or less dick heads that get nuked for their hubris. Also Spec Ops wasn't really America as the bad guy, as much as it was shitting on modern shooters/and the players of modern military shooters and how it's all false hero fantasy crap.

Rico was a tutored, misunderstood soul. It's a shame more people didn't get the depth and complexity he added to the series,

You probably fine it easier to empathize because you're both so much alike. You're really a dead ringer for Rico.

Being from a member of the country "Scotland", our ancestors fought bravely against the English for the freedoms, as opposed to just migrating and taking it all. My heritage is very proud, and well deserved. While Americans took freedom, then boasted about giving it to the world, we genuinely did fight for freedoms, a true example of the human spirit.

If anything, video games should have Scottish heroes.

My friend, you are still under English rule. What's more, you recently had the opportunity to escape their tyranny in a simple vote and failed to even do that. Mel Gibson is still rolling in his grave over that one.

The metal gear series does this to some extent. In fact, in Peace Walker you flat out fight the CIA with your nationless mercenary group while defending Costa Rica. So yeah, America are definitley the bad guys in Peace Walker.
